Luciano Spalletti finished his spell as Italy manager with a 2-0 win over Moldova to get their first points of the World Cup qualifying campaign.
Former Napoli boss Spalletti had announced on Sunday that the Group I fixture in Reggio Emilia would be his last, having seen his side slump to a 3-0 defeat away Norway in their opening game.
Moldova had an early header from Ion Nicolaescu ruled out offside following a video assistant referee review.
Italy broke the deadlock five minutes before half-time through Giacomo Raspadori's strike from the edge of the penalty area and Andrea Cambiaso added another soon after the restart.
Norway strengthened their position at the top of the table with a 1-0 win away over Estonia to maintain their perfect start through four games. Manchester City forward Erling Haaland got the only goal just after the hour.
Belgium started their Group J campaign with a battling 4-3 win over Wales in Brussels - where the visitors had fought back from 3-0 down.
Romelu Lukaku put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot in the 15th minute.
Belgium captain Youri Tielemans added a second just four minutes later before Jeremy Doku curled in a third.
Wales reduced the deficit from Harry Wilson's penalty in added time at the end of the first half.
Stoke winger Sorba Thomas made it 3-2 early in the second half, scoring his first senior international goal, before Spurs forward Brennan Johnson headed Wales level with 20 minutes left.
Belgium thought they had scored a late winner through Lukaku - but the goal was eventually chalked off following a lengthy VAR review because the ball had gone out in the build-up.
There, was, though no reprieve for Wales when Kevin De Bruyne volleyed in at the far post with two minutes of normal time remaining.
North Macedonia sit a point clear of Wales after a first-half goal from Aleksandar Trajkovski secured a 1-0 win away to Kazakhstan.
Croatia thrashed the Czech Republic 5-1 in Osijek to make it two wins from two in Group L.
After Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol saw his early goal from a free-kick ruled out for offside, Andrej Kramaric broke the deadlock three minutes before half-time.
Czech captain Tomas Soucek headed in an equaliser just before the hour from a corner.
Luka Modric, though, swiftly put Croatia back in front from the spot with Ivan Perisic adding a third in the 68th minute.
Croatia - who had thumped Gibraltar 7-0 on Friday - then put the result beyond doubt with two goals in the space of three minutes.
Ante Budimir converted another penalty before Kramaric slotted in a fifth.
The Czech Republic remain top, having suffered a first loss after three straight wins.
The Faroe Islands came from behind to beat Gibraltar 2-1 in Torshavn with a late goal from Patrik Johannesen.

England booed off after shock 3-1 defeat to Senegal

PA Media/dpa London Thomas Tuchel's honeymoon period as England manager is well and truly over as boos greeted Tuesday's shock 3-1 friendly loss to Senegal at the City Ground. Three days after being jeered following a poor World Cup qualification win against minnows Andorra, Tuesday's alarming display raised further questions a year out from their bid for glory in North America. Harry Kane had gotten England off to a fine start against Senegal by continuing his run of scoring in every game under Tuchel, who was critical of his side's efforts in Barcelona and spoke of his desire for the team to play with a smile. But happiness was in short supply in Nottingham, where Anthony Gordon wasted a glorious chance shortly before Ismaila Sarr capitalized on poor defending by debutant Trevoh Chalobah and a sleeping Kyle Walker. Senegal, ranked 19th in the world, were always going to be Tuchel's toughest test since taking charge and Habib Diarra went on to fire through the legs of Dean Henderson, who had made some important saves on his second start. Substitute Jude Bellingham thought he had levelled late on, only for Levi Colwill to be adjudged to have handled upon VAR review, and second-half introduction Cheikh Sabaly added another for the visitors in stoppage time. This was England's first ever defeat to an African side, having gone unbeaten in the previous 21 encounters, and looked possible from the outset with Idrissa Gueye and Nicolas Jackson denied early on by Henderson. But Tuchel's side struck the first blow with just seven minutes on the clock in Nottingham. Eberechi Eze did well to win the ball, with Conor Gallagher helping it wide for Gordon to get away a shot that former Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy could only spill into the path of Kane to turn in from six yards. Senegal responded well to that setback, with Henderson denying Diarra from distance before stopping Crystal Palace team-mate Sarr's powerful header. Gordon should have settled England's nerves in the 28th minute by applying the finish Walker's low cross merited, with that glaring miss under pressure at the far post proving costly. Henderson stopped Gueye but poor defending allowed Senegal to level in the 40th minute. Chalobah failed to stop Jackson hooking over a cross that Sarr beat a switched-off Walker to turn home. The rusty-looking right-back was booked for a foul soon after his role in the first goal conceded under Tuchel. England were breathing a sigh of relief five minutes later when Diarra lashed over, with Nottingham Forest favourite Morgan Gibbs-White's introduction bringing a huge cheer. Kane was among those withdrawn as part of that triple change but Ivan Toney was left on the bench, leaving England without an out-and-out striker. Something needed to change from Tuchel's perspective, but unfortunately it was the scoreline. Diarra all too easily got behind left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly and ran on to drill through Henderson from a tight angle in the 62nd minute, sparking wild celebrations from the pockets of Senegal supporters. England were denied an almost immediate leveller as Eze smartly flicked on for Gibbs-White to test Mendy. The pair linked up brilliantly again soon after, with Saka denied expertly by Mendy's right hand. Henderson stopped Jackson scoring from distance and Pape Gueye struck narrowly wide as home fans became increasingly frustrated. England looked to have been rescued in the 84th minute by substitute Bellingham, who took a touch and stabbed home from close range. But referee Stephanie Frappart was sent to the pitchside monitor and ruled the goal out for a handball by Colwill in the build-up. Toney was finally introduced but the only other goal would come from a Senegalese boot as Lamine Camara broke and played across for Sabaly in stoppage time.

Grealish left out of City's Club WC squad

London: Jack Grealish has been left out of Manchester City's squad for the Club World Cup. The England international was not included in the 27-man travelling party published by the Premier League club on Wednesday. The 29-year-old's omission had been widely anticipated and will raise further doubts over his future at the Etihad Stadium. he midfielder, signed for £100 million ($136 million) from Aston Villa four years ago, has fallen down the pecking order at City since playing a starring role in their treble success of 2023. He made just seven Premier League starts in the 2024-25 campaign and was notably not summoned from the bench as City went down to a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final last month. He was then left out of the matchday squad for the final Premier League game of the season at Fulham altogether. With City's overhaul of the squad continuing apace with four new signings this week, there is growing speculation Grealish could leave. (PA Media/DPA)

Man City seal signing of midfielder Tijjani from AC Milan

PAMedia/dpa London Manchester City have completed the £46.3 million ($64.47 million) signing of Netherlands midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan. The Premier League club have confirmed the 26-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Etihad Stadium. His arrival makes it four signings in a week for City, who announced deals for £30.5 million midfielder Rayan Cherki from Lyon and Chelsea's third-choice goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli on Tuesday, while left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri joined from Wolves in a £31.3 million move on Monday. Those transfers have been finalized in time for the players to be registered for the group stages of the Club World Cup this month. Reijnders arrives at City after impressing in an otherwise disappointing season at Milan, who finished eighth in Serie A and missed out on qualification for Europe. He scored 15 goals in the 2024-25 campaign and will bolster Pep Guardiola's midfield options following this summer's departure of Kevin De Bruyne. The Dutchman said: 'I am ecstatic to be signing for Manchester City. City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players and outstanding facilities. 'Under Pep Guardiola, City have won so many titles and I want to help keep that going with a lot more success in the coming years. It is also a dream come true to play in the Premier League. 'This league has seen many of the best Dutch players perform through the years and it's an inspiration to follow in their footsteps. 'I am really looking forward to getting going, meeting the other players and showing the Manchester City fans what I can do.' City's latest transfer activity continues an overhaul of the squad that began with the January signings of Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis. Further deals are also possible as the club respond to a disappointing season in which they failed to mount a strong Premier League title defence and exited the Champions League before the last 16.
