Logano leaves Martinsville frustrated with Chastain: 'I'm sick of paying the price'
On one of his least dominant days of 2025, Joey Logano notched his best finish of the season Sunday at Martinsville Speedway.
He just needed to fight through adversity once again.
This time, on his way back to an eighth-place result and 12th consecutive top 10 at Martinsville, Logano was forced to charge back through the field after his Lap 317 spin from sixth place. His No. 22 Team Penske Ford slid after contact from Chase Briscoe, but Logano placed the blame in the hands of Ross Chastain, who put a block on Briscoe's No. 19 Toyota at the entrance of Turn 3 that Briscoe didn't appreciate. Briscoe charged the corner to bump Chastain, but also caught the inside curbing, sending his car up the track and into Logano.

'It seems like it's been a typical 2025. A pretty solid car and then something happens,' Logano said. ' … Ross just sticking it in a tight spot. He did it to me on the restart before. I can't even blame Briscoe for shipping him. I think he got himself in a bind trying to ship him. He [Chastain] just races like a jackass every week, and I keep paying the price. I'm sick of paying the price.'
Asked whether he had anything to say to Chastain, Logano said: 'Not at the moment. Nothing good.'

The 'good' instead came from Logano's speed, as emphasized by NASCAR Insights' post-race statistics. The three-time and defending NASCAR Cup Series champion ranked fourth-best Sunday in passing, third-best in defense and sixth in overall speed. A Stage 1 victory netted him an additional 10 points toward the regular-season standings and a playoff point to boot, aiding the No. 22 team to a 39-point day, its best of the season.

Logano led 13 laps at Martinsville and now ranks second in laps led this season, thanks in large part to race winner Denny Hamlin pacing the field for 274 of 400 circuits on Sunday. And yet, the frustration of what could have been stung more for Logano than any bright side could offer.
'It seems like it's been a typical 2025,' Logano said. 'A pretty solid car, and then something happens. Overall, I feel the guys gave me a really fast Shell/Pennzoil Mustang, one that was possible to win with if we got the track position. We went for that stage win early in the race in Stage 1. I think that was the right call. We got ourselves back in the ballpark there, and the long haul was pretty good.'
Then came the contact from Briscoe that changed the complexion of Logano's final 83 laps in the Cook Out 400.

1 dead after SUV driver crashes into tree along freeway in Placer County
PENRYN — The passenger of an SUV died after the driver lost control and crashed into a tree along the side of a freeway in Placer County, authorities said Thursday night. It happened shortly after 7:30 p.m. along the shoulder of westbound Interstate 80, north of Penryn Road, near the community of Penryn. California Highway Patrol's Auburn division said the driver of a Toyota 4Runner may have lost control due to a blown tire, causing him to veer off the side of the freeway. The female passenger died at the scene from her injuries. The driver was hospitalized with major injuries. CHP Auburn said there were several dogs in the vehicle who are now being cared for by Placer County Animal Control.

Is This Mystery Box-Flared, Winged Subaru a New STI—Or Just Another WRX?
Subaru fans might have a reason to get excited again. With the high-performance STI version of the iconic WRX still in the wilderness, fans have been eagerly awaiting news that the rally and motorsports special might return. During the 2025 running of the 24-hour endurance round of the Super Taikyu series, Subaru unveiled an image to the press on hand that, to us, is throwing strong "STI" vibes. Of course, Subaru provided virtually zero details on this interesting... whatever it is. According to Car Watch the presentation during Super Taikyu round 3 at Fuji included Tetsuro Fujinuki, Chief Technical Officer and Executive Managing Director of Subaru, who briefly spoke about a new WRX that will be unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show on October 29 and 30. While he wanted to talk further about it, he said 'but I got scolded, so I'm going to be a little vague.' He described it as a car that was 'a little more Subaru-like' and that it would utilize the technological assets Subaru currently has. 'A little further down the line,' said Fujinuki, 'we would like to create an even more cutting-edge car.' What that means is up to interpretation and speculation, but Car Watch was inclined to think it was something to do with the jointly developed Toyota Hybrid System found in Subaru's Crosstrek Hybrid and Forester Hybrid, albeit adapted to suit with a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four engine like the FA24 under the hood of the 2025 WRX. For what it's worth, Subaru has been pretty clear that any would-be STI likely would not be based on the WRX as we know it, and would probably incorporate some electrification. Again, Car Watch's speculation seems spot-on in regard to the hybridization theory, but it's less clear whether this mystery machine represents something beyond a WRX sedan. (Past STI models have been relatively closely related to the regular WRX, sort of like a Volkswagen Golf R is to the GTI.) The car pictured above certainly isn't just any old WRX, and its body, face, and general appearance seems different enough that we could be looking at a different car altogether. The only question is whether that car is an STI. All we know is, we're excited to see what this car and its box-flared body, aggressive splitter, and interesting looking rear wing will evolve into at the Japan Mobility Show.

BMW to Keep Making Z4 Because People Keep Buying Them: Report
The BMW Z4 might be sticking around for longer than expected. The German roadster was rumored to bow out in October 2025, though a report dating back to 2023 suggested production had been extended to March of next year. Now, a new rumor claims Z4 production has been stretched even further, to May 2026—but only for American-market cars. BMW Blog , citing a trusted source at the Bimmerpost forums, says production of the US-specification Z4 M40i—the only trim available with a manual transmission—has been extended another two months. The source doesn't cite a reason for the extension, but we can make a couple of educated guesses. Photo by: BMW USA Sales of the Z4 jumped by 13.1 percent in 2024 after BMW finally made the manual transmission available in the United States. A spokesperson confirmed to Motor1 earlier this year that the stick shift "absolutely" contributed to the Z4's sales growth. "The response has been wonderfully enthusiastic," they said. Upon seeing the increase in sales, BMW likely decided to keep the Z4 around for a bit longer. And with the manual expected to disappear from the company's lineup entirely by 2030, the company potentially predicts sales will continue as buyers snag the very last manual Z4s before they're gone forever. The same Bimmerpost source claims May 2026 is also when production of the Toyota Supra will end. Avid enthusiasts will know the Supra and the Z4 share a platform, and are built on the same assembly line by Magna Steyr in Austria. So that makes sense. But while Toyota has already confirmed a replacement for the outgoing Supra, BMW has made no such promise. With sales of sports cars and convertibles declining every year, we wouldn't be surprised to see the company discontinue the car for good, at least in its current form. Our advice? If you want a manual Z4, grab one while you still can. Because time is running out.
