Brewers' Brandon Woodruff has bruised elbow after getting struck by line drive in rehab appearance
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff has a bruised right elbow after getting struck by a line drive while on a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Nashville.
Woodruff left his appearance on Tuesday after getting hit by a 108 mph liner off the bat of Gwinnett's Cade Bunnell. He had an X-ray and other testing to confirm the diagnosis of a bruise.
A 32-year-old, two-time All-Star, Woodruff last pitched in the majors on Sept. 23, 2023.
He missed the Brewers' 2023 NL Wild Card series loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks with a shoulder injury that required surgery and prevented him from pitching last year. He was pitching for Nashville and preparing to return to the big leagues last month when he experienced tendinitis in his right ankle.

PHOENIX (AP) — Josh Naylor hit a game-ending grand slam in the 11th inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Seattle Mariners 8-4 on Monday night after losing closer Justin Martinez with two outs in the ninth and then blowing a four-run lead. Corbin Carroll launched a leadoff homer and Naylor had three hits and five RBIs for the Diamondbacks, who stopped a three-game skid. Jeff Brigham came in and gave up RBI singles to Solano and Cole Young before Dominic Canzone tied it with a 450-foot, two-run drive to right field for his first homer this season. Juan Morillo retired slugger Cal Raleigh with two runners aboard to finally end the inning. Morillo then pitched a perfect 10th and Jalen Beeks (2-0) got three straight outs in the 11th. Naylor homered to right-center with one out on a 1-2 pitch from Carlos Vargas (1-5), who was working his second inning in relief. CLEVELAND (AP) — Jake Fraley, had three hits, including a home run in the fourth inning, Wade Miley got his first win since 2023 and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Cleveland Guardians 7-4 Monday night in Terry Francona's return to Progressive Field. TJ Friedl also went deep for the Reds, who have won four straight and are over .500 for the first time since May 19. Bo Naylor had a solo shot for Cleveland. The Guardians have dropped four of five overall and have lost all four of their meetings with the Reds this season. Francona managed Cleveland for 11 seasons (2013-23) before being hired by the Reds last October. PIRATES 10, MARLINS 3 PITTSBURGH (AP) — Bryan Reynolds hit a bases-loaded triple to cap a four-run third inning and Pittsburgh beat the skidding Miami for their season-high fourth straight win.
