Man City make £34m move for Rayan Cherki as Man Utd target decides on transfer

Rayan Cherki is generating plenty of interest from top clubs after his incredible season saw him score 12 and assist 19 in all competitions, with Manchester City becoming the leading favourites to sign him Manchester City have emerged as favourites to sign Lyon star Rayan Cherki this summer, with the midfielder eager to link up with Pep Guardiola 's men, according to reports. Cherki has become one of Europe's hottest properties after a stellar season in Ligue 1. The 21-year-old enjoyed an incredible season, scoring 12 goals and assisting 19 in all competitions, and with Lyon only mustering a sixth-placed finish he is now being tipped for a move to a top European club. ‌ Manchester United were previously tipped as a destination for Cherki, after watching him score twice against them in the Europa League this season. But after missing out on European football, a move to their rivals City looks more likely. ‌ According to French outlet Foot Mercato, a move to City is "accelerating" for Cherki - who was voted in the Ligue 1 team of the season following his sparkling creative displays. The report states City "appreciate" Cherki's talents and see him as an ideal replacement for the outgoing Kevin de Bruyne. Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz was previously a big target for City, but Bayern Munich and Liverpool have now jumped to the front of the queue. Cherki's preference is to play in the No 10 role - which is where City would want to play him, it goes on. The Sky Blues are now ramping up talks with the player's team and are "very confident" over a deal. ‌ The boyhood Lyon star has given the thumbs up over moving to the Etihad and is excited about the prospect of playing under Guardiola, who he has already spoken to - the report claims. Cherki wants to sort his future out as quickly as possible in a deal that could earn Lyon around £34m - though he does have a release clause of £25m. Cherki has a contract at Lyon that runs until next summer ‌ He has hinted he could have played his final game for Lyon after admitting he has "done everything I could" for the club, saying it will "always be in my heart". "I don't know," he said when asked about his future. "In any case, I know I've given my all for the club. I've done everything I could for OL, because it's a club I'll never forget, one that will always be in my heart. "I stayed when a lot of players left. Today, I have no regrets. Whatever happens, I'll give my all to the last minute for the club. I've only got OL on my mind, and I'd never call on anyone else." Cherki joined Lyon aged six and began playing for its reserve team at the age of 15. He became the first team's youngest ever scorer at 16 in 2020 and has gone on to make 185 appearances, scoring 29 times.

Rangers 'close in' on first transfer of 49ers era as star who broke Ibrox hearts in Seville is on the table

A former Frankfurt defender is reported to be on his way to Ibrox as one of the 49ers' first signings Rangers are reported to be closing in on their first incoming transfer of the 49ers era in defender Almamy Toure – who played against them for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final. The widely anticipated takeover which was first broken my Record Sport was completed yesterday with the American consortium, headed up by Andrew Cavenagh who becomes the new chairman at Ibrox, buying a controlling stake in the club. ‌ They promise fresh ideas and investment on and off the pitch as they look to restore Rangers, who have won just one top-flight title in the last 14 years, as a genuine force in Scotland. ‌ The first step in that direction will be appointing a new manager with Davide Ancelotti, Francesco Farioli and Russell Martin among the current contenders. But work is already ongoing in tandem to ensure the next boss will have a serviceable squad to work with. They've parted company with a number of out-of-contract stars like Leon Balogun, Ianis Hagi and Tom Lawrence and it's being reported in Africa that one player being considered to plug a gap in a depleted squad is 29-year-old Toure. ‌ Africa Foot say the versatile defender, equally effective at right-back and centre-back, is a target with work already underway to bring him to Scotland. Toure spent last season in the German second tier with Kaiserslautern where he struggled with injury and is looking for a move to get back playing regularly and relaunch a career that at one time looked highly-promising. He came through the ranks at Monaco and was part of the golden generation of talent that included Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva and Fabinho. ‌ Toure came off the bench in their famous Champions League comeback victory over Manchester City in 2017 and played 80 times for the club before his exit in 2019. He then signed for Eintracht Frankfurt, where he won the Europa League in 2022 – downing Rangers on penalties in the final. The defender's exit from Kaiserslautern has already been confirmed and his reported weekly wage of around £8,000 puts him on the table as a cost-effective defensive option whose name value and experience may well appeal to the new Ibrox owners. ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season. Antony sends heartfelt message to fans ahead of planned Man Utd future talks

Antony has been rejuvenated since joining Real Betis on loan and was keen on making his stay in Seville permanent but post on social media has now cast that plan in doubt Antony has appeared to saw farewell to Real Betis despite reports in Spain insisting the La Liga club remain keen to make his loan from Manchester United permanent. The Brazil international has found a new lease of life in Seville since arriving on a temporary deal and previously indicated that he would like to stay. ‌ But financial issues have made a permanent deal difficult with Betis unable to afford United's £40m asking price and the forward's £200,000 per week salary. ‌ Marca have reported that fresh talks between the clubs would take place this coming week - with even the suggestion that the beaten UEFA Conference League finalists would explore the possibility of part-signing him. However Antony has not taken to social media to thank Betis - prompting speculation that he will instead explore other options. "Today is the day to thank one of the most beautiful chapters of my life," he said in a video on his Instagram. "From the first step into this club, I felt something different. It was like coming home, like finding a piece of myself that I thought I had lost. With you, I started to smile again. "Thank you for welcoming me as one of your own. Thank you for giving me back the joy of playing football. And thank you for reminding me why I fell in love with the game. My home, my people, thank you so much." ‌ Antony, who United paid £86m for, has scored nine goals in 26 games since joining Betis midway through the season. And while he struggled to make an impact against Chelsea, the overall impact is that of a player completely rejuvenated since leaving the misery of Old Trafford. United are expecting a hectic start to the transfer window. A £62.5m deal for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha is set to be completed after terms were agreed in the past week, while captain Bruno Fernandes has had his deadline for a potential move to join Al Hilal extended. ‌ The Saudi club are willing to make the Portugal star one of the world's best players but are determined for him to join ahead of next month's Club World Cup. An initial deadline of last Thursday was set but the latest reports suggest he has until late next week to commit. A three-year deal worth up to £200m in a salary is on offer with Al Hilal also expecting to pay a significant fee for Fernandes. He is reportedly giving serious thought to the offer. Every member of United's squad is available for transfer at the right price as the club counts the cost of their dismal campaign and no European football next season. Ruben Amorim's squad requires a significant overhaul to meet the requirements of his 3-4-2-1 system. But it is accepted that several sales are required to fund new signings. Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are among those who appear likely to depart this summer.
