Bar Council to issue notice to lawyer for post against judge
Kochi: The
Bar Council of Kerala
has decided to issue a show-cause notice to
Adv Yeshwanth Shenoy
, president of the
Kerala High Court Advocates' Association
, over a Facebook post in which he allegedly criticised a sitting judge of the Kerala high court.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Bar Council held on Saturday. The post reportedly followed the dismissal of a petition filed by Shenoy before the high court seeking to quash disciplinary proceedings initiated against him by the Bar Council. The bench of Justice T R Ravi had rejected Shenoy's plea, which pertained to allegations of misconduct during proceedings in the courtroom of a former judge.
The council has now sought an explanation from Shenoy as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against him for the remarks made in the social media post. tnn

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Congress general secretary Rajesh Soni was arrested on Friday and charged under a tough section of the BNS for allegedly uploading "misleading" as well as "morale-breaking" content related to Operation Sindoor on a social media platform. After the registration of an FIR on Thursday, the Cyber Crime Cell of the state CID arrested Soni in the early hours over his controversial posts on the operation launched by Indian armed forces to destroy terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK), said superintendent of police (CID-Cyber Crime) Bharatsinh Tank. Gujarat Congress leaders rushed to the CID's office in Gandhinagar upon learning about Soni's arrest. Gujarat Congress president Shaktisinh Gohil condemned the police action, saying his party colleague only tried to highlight that soldiers need to get their due credit instead of the govt spending taxpayers' money on publicity. Police chief suggests conduct protocols for cops within court premises in Kerala
Kochi: The state police chief (SPC) has submitted a report to high court suggesting three protocols to improve the conduct of police personnel within court premises. The report recommends that police personnel must not arrest any individual within a court hall without the express permission of the presiding judicial officer, unless such arrest is essential to prevent an imminent offence. It also proposes the creation of a permanent channel of dialogue between the Bar and police in every district to resolve differences and foster a professional relationship. This mechanism would include the president of the Bar Association or another respected member of the Bar and a nodal officer not below the rank of deputy superintendent of police, designated by the district police chief. The third suggestion in the report is that strict departmental action should be taken in cases where police personnel unjustifiably assault or verbally abuse advocates. Similarly, it recommends that the Bar Council of Kerala take strict disciplinary action when advocates are found guilty of similar conduct against police personnel. The report was filed in response to a HC directive in a suo motu petition initiated, taking note of the rising number of altercations between police personnel and lawyers within court premises across the state. In that order, the court had directed the SPC to submit a report after consulting stakeholders, including the Bar Council of Kerala and the president of the Kerala High Court Advocates' Association (KHCAA).
