Terror linked accused questioned for third day

Hans India26-05-2025

Vizianagaram: The investigation into the high-profile bomb conspiracy case intensified as questioning of key suspects Siraj and Sameer entered its third day, on Sunday. The interrogation is currently un-derway at the Police Training College, led by teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Counter Intelligence, and local police.
The probe is going to dig out the terror links, financial transactions, and the broader explo-sives conspiracy. Officials are closely examining Siraj's social media posts, with a particular focus on a post flagged by a revenue officer from Visakhapatnam, whose identity is now un-der scrutiny.
The suspects are currently in custodial interrogation, as multiple agencies investigate the ter-ror angle. The NIA has recorded lengthy statements from both Siraj and Sameer. Investigators plan to take them to Hyderabad for scene reconstruction, while probing meetings allegedly held in the city.
Social media activities, especially a handle named 'Magic Lantern', have emerged as a key communication platform for the accused. Authorities have identified a group of 12 members spanning Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra, allegedly linked to the plot.
Investigators are also tracking funds reportedly originating from Saudi-based handlers, with ₹40 lakh traced to Sameer's account. Statements from the suspects' families have been rec-orded as the multi-agency probe digs deeper into cross-border terror finance networks. On the otherside, the investigation agencies are probing another angle of creating a team with some hardcore followers to be converted into human bombs. As per the information, Siraj has converted around 20 persons into human bombs to plan blasts in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengalore, Delhi and even in Vizianagaram. The investigation is going to find out the persons to are converted into human bombs and on the way to find out them.

Maharashtra ATS conducting massive raids in Padgha over suspected terror planning activities

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), along with the Thane Rural police, is conducting massive searches at various households in the Padgha area near Bhiwandi Monday in connection with suspected terror planning activities, sources said. The raids are being carried out by over 250 police personnel, including 20 ATS teams, at 15 places based on special intelligence received recently, the sources told The Indian Express. The epicentre of the raids, ATS sources said, is the house of terror suspect Saquib Nachan, who the NIA had claimed to be the head of the Maharashtra module of ISIS. Who is Nachan? Having been booked in over a dozen terror-related cases, Saquib Nachan has been under the radar of security agencies since the 1990s. He was convicted twice – once by the Supreme Court in 1997 for planning terror attacks in India in the early 1990s along with Khalistani terrorists. In 2016, he was convicted again by a court in Mumbai for 10 years under the Arms Act after being booked in the 2002-03 terror blasts in Mumbai. He served both sentences and was released in 2017. The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which had raided Padgha in December 2023 among other places in Maharashtra and arrested 15 people, has previously claimed that Nachan was head of the state ISIS module which was planning to carry out destructive and violent activities in the country. Huge amounts of unaccounted cash, firearms, sharp-edged weapons, incriminating documents, smartphones and other digital devices were seized during the December 2023 raids. According to the NIA, Nachan administered the 'bayath' or oath of allegiance to the people joining the proscribed organisation. His son Shamil Nachan was also arrested by the agency in Maharashtra in an ISIS module-related terror case. Why Padgha According to ATS sources, Padgha has in recent years been a hub of terror suspects. As per anti-terrorism agencies, the Maharashtra ISIS module had self-declared the village of Padgha as a 'liberated zone' and as 'Al Sham'. Terror suspects allegedly motivated impressionable Muslim youth to relocate to Padgha to strengthen their base there. The last time NIA had raided Padgha and the Borivali area nearby, they had found that all members of the ISIS Maharashtra module were operating from Padgha-Borivali, where they had hatched a conspiracy to spread terror and carry out acts of violence across India. 'Pursuing the path of violent jihad, khilafat, etc, the accused had aimed to disturb the peace and communal harmony of the country and to wage a war against the Government of India,' the central agency had previously stated. ISIS, a global terror organisation, has been spreading its network in India by establishing localized modules and cells in various states.

Mohali surgeon duped in online trading scam, loses Rs 91 lakh; Cyber Cell launches probe

A senior surgeon working at a renowned hospital in Mohali has fallen victim to a large-scale online trading scam. According to the complaint filed with the Punjab State Cyber Crime Cell, the doctor was defrauded of approximately Rs 91 lakh by unidentified cyber fraudsters. As per the information shared with the Cyber Crime Police Station, the doctor received an email from a Hyderabad-based company claiming to be S&W Aubrey Capital Management Investment Funds. Through this email communication, he was added to a WhatsApp group called MK-S&W India VIP-67080. The members of the group assured him of daily profits if he invested in their trading platform. From February 19, 2025, to the last week of May, the doctor transferred funds through various channels such as UPI, RTGS, and bank transfers. Maharashtra FDA books Mumbai-based firm for reselling expired food products after repackaging

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently initiated legal proceedings against a Mumbai-based firm, Khushi Trading, for allegedly repackaging expired food products and reselling them in the market. The firm in Ghatkopar has also been accused of operating without a valid food safety licence and violating prior stop-business orders. According to FDA officials, the crackdown was conducted following inputs from Minister of State for FDA Yogesh Kadam and under the supervision of Joint Commissioner (Food) Mangesh Mane. An official said a surprise inspection on May 22 at the firm's premises in Cozmongie Estate, Ghatkopar (West), uncovered serious lapses, including the absence of an FSSAI licence, unhygienic storage conditions, and evidence of procurement of expired and near-expiry goods from retail giant D-Mart, which were allegedly being repackaged for fresh sale. 'This poses a direct threat to public health… The firm was found flouting multiple provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, including hygiene norms laid out in Schedule 4,' said a senior FDA official. Despite being issued a stop-business order by Food Safety Officer Abhinandan Randive on May 22, a follow-up inspection on May 29, conducted along with Assistant Commissioner (Food) Anupamaa Balasaheb Patil, revealed that the firm had resumed operations without permission, in violation of regulatory directives. Following this, an FIR was registered at the Ghatkopar police station under Section 223 (disobedience of lawful orders) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 55 (penalties for failing to comply with the food safety officer's directions) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. FDA officials have confirmed that an internal investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of D-Mart's involvement, particularly branches in Navi Mumbai and Bhiwandi, from where Khushi Trading allegedly sourced expired stock. D-Mart's comment is awaited on the matter. The FDA has reiterated its warning to all food business operators to adhere to food safety laws strictly and stated that failure to do so will result in stringent legal action. The FDA recently also suspended the food business license of Kiranakart Technologies, the parent company of the quick-commerce platform Zepto, following an inspection that revealed unhygienic storage practices for food items at its Dharavi facility in Mumbai.
