Club World Cup bracket: Schedule, scores, and results for FIFA soccer tournament

USA Today5 hours ago

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup has provided plenty of thrills, with the top clubs from every continent squaring off across the country due to an expanded tournament format.
Lionel Messi and Inter Miami have secured a place in the knockout rounds, making history in the process. The Herons became the first MLS team to ever defeat a European foe in an official competition when they knocked off Portuguese giants Porto 2-1 on June 19. Miami's reward? A round-of-16 clash against Messi's previous team, UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain.
Porto isn't the only European side to stumble in what has been a surprising tournament. Atlético Madrid has also crashed out at the first hurdle, while Chelsea only finished second in Group D after a deserved loss to Brazilian club Flamengo. Meanwhile, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Real Madrid all have a chance of being eliminated before the knockout rounds pending the outcome of their final group-stage games.

River Plate and Inter Milan currently hold the top two spots in the Group E standings. Still, with a matchup between the two set to take place at the same time as this one, Monterrey is lurking only one point behind them, ready to claim one of the top two spots and advance to the Round of 16. A win might be all it would take for Monterrey to advance, as their five points would be more than either River Plate or Inter Milan if one of them does not pick up a point. Things would get tricky if their match ends in a draw, but Monterrey can only control what they can control, and they would have to feel pretty good about their chances if they pick up maximum points on Wednesday. Sergio Ramos has scored the lone goal for Monterrey during this tournament, and now would be a great time for the veteran to deliver his second. This is a great Club World Cup matchup; make sure to tune in and catch all the action. A win for either side would secure the top position in Group E and a spot in the Round of 16. While a Monterrey loss or draw in their matchup against Urawa would guarantee both clubs will be moving on to the knockout stage, Urawa has yet to gain a point in this competition, so they can not rely on those outcomes. Lautaro Martínez has scored a goal in each of Inter Milan's Club World Cup Group Stage matches, and he will look to make it three consecutive to open the tournament on Wednesday. If he can get his club on the board early, it will heavily increase their chances. Four different players have already scored for River Plate during the tournament, making them a tough club to contain offensively. They hold a slight edge heading into this one with a better goal differential through two matches. This is a great Club World Cup matchup; make sure to tune in and catch all the action. Gio Reyna makes first appearance for Borussia Dortmund at Club World Cup

Gio Reyna made his first appearance for Borussia Dortmund at the Club World Cup, entering for the German club in the 78th minute of its 1-0 win over South Korean side Ulsan on Wednesday. FIFA gave player priority to the Club World Cup, preventing Reyna from being with the U.S. men's national team at the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Daniel Svensson scored in the 36th minute for Dortmund, who now advance to the round of 16 of the tournament. After a giveaway by Ulsan on a poor pass near its own goal, Jobe Bellingham centered to Svensson, who took a touch and beat goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo from about 10 yards. Svensson, a 23-year-old midfielder loaned to Dortmund by Denmark's Nordsjælland last winter, scored his second goal for the German club after scoring in a 3-2 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on April 20. "The only thing we could have done a little bit better is maybe scoring a bit more goals, because we created a lot of chances today. ... Football is emotional, so yeah, very nice scoring the goal that turned out to be an important one, also. So, yeah, very nice feeling," Svensson said. Dortmund won Group F with seven points, two more than Fluminese, which finished second following a 0-0 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns. Uslan was last, going 0-3. The match on a 93-degree (33 Celsius) day with a heat advisory drew 8,239 at 26,000-capacity TQL Stadium, where the crowd included U.S. Vice President JD Vance. "I'm sorry for the fans to not meet their expectations. ... The climate like this is too harsh. It is not for playing soccer, but it is what it is. So most teams, I mean, not just only us, we don't feel this kind of weather usually. It is a change of environment," said Jo. Reporting by The Associated Press.
