SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Mastering social media is not easy. Still, an upcoming event in downtown Shreveport promises to help guide social media users and teach them how to increase their business or monetize their platforms.
SocialCon 2025 is on June 7 at the Eleven Events Center and is the first of its kind digital marketing and networking event in the ArkLaTex.
Dezerra Wesley, also known as Shreveport's Sunshine to her Facebook followers, was selected to join a list of notable individuals locally and nationally, helping to highlight and promote the event. While her journey to becoming a digital marketing master is like a fairy tale, it was born out of necessity.
Social media trolls can't dim Leona Gray's shine as she preps for SocialCon 2025
'I was working at a coffee shop and, took over the responsibilities of all the social media for that coffee shop, and, I got good at it,' Wesley said. People used to always be like, oh, does this. Who does this? Who made that? Who does this? And I'd be like, it's me, guys. It it's me. I'm like, wow. And once people started learning that, it was always, you know, can you help me? Can you help me? And at the time when I was doing it, I didn't think much of it.
Wesley said the growth she helped contribute to at the coffee shop led to her business, which now involves training and consulting others who want to understand the art of digital marketing better. In a place like Shreveport, where word of mouth is still the go-to way to promote your business, little Miss Sunshine was forging a new path for herself and others by creating a social media manager position that had not existed before.
That is the case with the multibillion-dollar digital content creator space. Someone has to be willing to create something that did not exist the day before.
She said the keys are consistency and trial and error, and notes that if you never start, you'll never know what online success awaits you.

'You just have to be consistent. I don't think there's any bigger tip than being consistent. Post the video. It isn't. Your first one might get 50 views, but but by the 10th time you're working with something, you just have to do it. And I think a lot of times people wait until like, oh, I'm not that good. I don't really, I don't I don't really take that great of pictures. I don't it it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter because you can't go viral like people want to. If you never post anything.'

Meta found a new way to violate your privacy. Here's what you can do.

Researchers recently caught Meta using tactics that one expert called similar to those of digital crooks to secretly compile logs of people's web browsing on Android devices. No one, including Android owner Google, knew that Meta's Facebook and Instagram apps were siphoning people's data through a digital back door for months. (After the researchers publicized their findings, Meta said it stopped.)

'Ghost Adventures' star Aaron Goodwin cries as ex-wife sentenced in plot to kill him

'Ghost Adventures' star Aaron Goodwin cries as ex-wife sentenced in plot to kill him Show Caption Hide Caption TikTok influencer Valeria Marquez shot while livestreaming in Mexico A man fatally shot a 23-year-old Mexican TikTok influencer, Valeria Marquez, while she was livestreaming. Victoria Goodwin, the ex-wife of "Ghost Adventures" star Aaron Goodwin, is heading to prison for helping orchestrate a murder-for-hire plot to kill him. Goodwin's lawyers confirmed to USA TODAY Thursday, June 5, that she had been sentenced to 36-90 months in prison following a guilty plea in April. At the sentencing hearing, cameras for CourtTV captured a clearly distraught Goodwin awaiting her sentencing, listening on as lawyers for her husband recounted the plot in which she is accused of hiring a hitman to kill him rather than ask for a divorce. "Firstly and most importantly, I would like to apologize to Aaron," Goodwin said, through a shaky voice, reading a statement during the hearing. "I'm so immensely sorry for the pain and anxiety I have caused you and the betrayal you undoubtedly and rightfully feel by my actions. "I'm sorry I broke us, and I'm consumed with regret every day," she continued, vowing to bow out of his life forever and adding she was "ashamed" and "disappointed" with herself. Goodwin's lawyers, arguing that she had never been in any previous legal trouble and had by November abandoned the plot to kill, urged for a shorter sentence. Aaron Goodwin then delivered a statement, speaking through tears about his "fear." "This has led me to fear for my life," he said of discovering that his wife had put a hit out on him. "I can't trust anything anymore. I cry every day, I feel so alone. She turned me into a person I never was." Goodwin was originally arrested in March on suspicion of two felony charges: solicitation to commit murder and conspiring to commit murder, according to county court records. According to the criminal complaint, Goodwin hired, commanded or otherwise solicited up to two people to "commit the murder of Aaron Goodwin." They say she conspired with a man via cell phone communications to have her husband "killed by a third party by providing the location of the victim and providing funds to pay for the murder." Investigators uncovered the alleged plot through Victoria Goodwin's text and Facebook message communications with an inmate in Florida, discovered on his phone when it was seized by correction officers in October. During an interview with detectives before her arrest, Goodwin revealed she had become aware of the Florida inmate "through a true crime documentary and began writing to him." "Victoria explained at the time of the text messages," with the inmate, "she and Aaron were going through problems in their marriage. She further described being lonely and began connecting" with the Florida inmate, the report states. When asked about "texts soliciting and conspiring to murder Aaron," police said "she denied wanting her husband to be killed" and denied remembering those specific messages. Who are Victoria and Aaron Goodwin? Aaron Goodwin is a camera operator and star of the Discovery+ paranormal and reality TV series "Ghost Adventures" led by paranormal investigator Zak Bagans. The hit series has been on air since 2008. Aaron and Victoria Goodwin were married in August 2022 and divorced in March. Contributing: Taijuan Moorman, KiMi Robinson

Wells Fargo calls this e-commerce stock an 'under-the-radar' AI story

Investors should pick up shares of Shopify as the company continues to innovate in an increasingly AI-powered e-commerce industry, according to Wells Fargo. Analyst Andrew Bauch reiterated his overweight rating on Shopify shares and lifted his price target by $18 to $125, which suggests the stock has about 19% upside ahead. Bauch said Shopify has a strong product portfolio and strategic partnerships in artifical intelligence that will allow it to capture similar market share in "agentic" commerce as it does in traditional U.S. e-commerce. Agentic commerce refers to AI agents acting on behalf of the customer or business in e-commerce transactions such as managing inventory, giving customized recommendations and executing payments and other tasks. "While not typically perceived as an AI play, we believe Shopify's AI efforts are differentiated and can serve as another important growth & efficiency driver for years to come," Bauch wrote in a Friday note to clients, calling the stock an "under-the-radar AI story." "Overall, we see AI as an important piece to the Shopify story, and see the business as well-positioned to ride the wave, rather than getting knocked off course. We're taking our growth and margin estimates up modestly on alleviating tariff risks, and the multiple higher on AI confidence," he added. Shares of Shopify are up nearly 3% this year. The stock took a hit in early May after it reported mixed first-quarter results and issued a weak forecast for the current period. However, shares have jumped roughly 17% over the past month following an announcement that Shopify would be included in the Nasdaq 100 index. SHOP 1Y mountain Shopify stock over the past year. According to Bauch, Shopify can be seen as a "thematic AI story" given that its employees leverage AI internally, it offers differentiated AI-powered merchant solutions and is growing partnerships with leading AI companies such as OpenAI, Meta and Perplexity. Shopify and Meta share a longstanding partnership that allows Shopify retailers to sync their products to a catalog on Meta's Facebook and Instagram platforms, therefore growing their reach and sales opportunities. Shopify merchants can also use Meta's advertising tools to target ads and track their customers. In addition, AI-powered search engine Perplexity last year announced it will use Shopify technology for its AI-powered shopping tool called "Shop like a Pro." "While some may perceive the AI wave as a threat, we see layers of opportunity via use cases, efficiencies, and adoption," Bauch said. The analyst projected a $50 billion dollar gross merchandise value, or GMV, opportunity for agentic commerce by 2030, with roughly 30% growth annually between now and then. That, he said, is similar to the early days of e-commerce.
