'Bhupen da,' as he is fondly known, was born on Sept 8, 1926, to Nilakanta and Shantipriya Hazarika Sadiya.
The celebrations will extend beyond Assam, with commemorative events planned in Arunachal Pradesh, where Hazarika spent his early years, Kolkata, where he lived during his creative prime, and Mumbai, the city where he spent his final years and passed away in 2011.
The meeting, chaired by chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, was also attended by the family members and individuals who shared a close bond with the iconic artist.
Expressing his gratitude for the insightful contributions made during the meeting, Sarma said, "Bhupen Hazarika's family members and those who knew him intimately were present, and they offered suggestions that will complement the govt's already planned events. We are committed to incorporating all practical ideas into the year-long calendar."
The meeting also shed light on the ongoing efforts to create a comprehensive biography of the Bharat Ratna awardee. The chief minister said Anuradha Sarma Pujari, a respected author and editor, is diligently working on the project. "It will be 'peer reviewed' by people who knew Dr Hazarika. It will be translated into 23 Indian languages and made available in four lakh educational institutions, libraries and govt offices.
In Assam, we plan to gift it to 10 lakh people," he added.

Thug Life Box Office Collections: Kamal Haasan starrer is Dead on Arrival with a poor first day
Thug Life is a dead-on-arrival at the box office, with the film taking a below par opening and then followed it with poor initial audience reception. The Kamal Hassan starrer grossed a mere Rs. 17 crore approx on its first day at the Indian box office. The film had underwhelming advances, but even they were better than what it has finally ended up with, due to negligible walkup business during the day. Tamil Nadu made up for most of the first day collection with Rs. 13 crore. From advances, it was expected to collect around Rs. 15-16 crore, but it fell significantly short of that. The first day of business in the state is similar to Indian 2. While that film had some numbers outside Tamil Nadu while this has nothing to show for. The film missed out on a Karnataka release due to the controversy surrounding recent remarks made by Kamal Haasan, but even where it was released, it was a non-starter. Thug Life marks the second major disappointment for Kamal Hassan after Indian 2, third considering Indian 3 is already written off. The legendary actor made a comeback to the forefront of the Tamil box office same week three years ago, with a mega blockbuster Vikram. On paper, his follow-up lineup to Vikram looked highly promising, but it has failed spectacularly. Despite the dismal theatrical performance, the producers of Thug Life are insulated from financial loss, as they fetched handsome prices for the non-theatrical rights. The losses will be with those who paid those prices, as they are certainly not going to recover them, and with the exhibition sector, missing action during the peak summer period. The First Day Box Office Collections of Thug Life are as follows:

PM Modi inaugurates world's highest Chenab rail bridge in Reasi
Katra (J&K), June 6 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the world's highest Chenab rail bridge in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. The PM was accompanied by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Before the inauguration, the PM inspected the bridge and spoke to the engineers and the labourers, who turned the dream into a reality. The Chenab rail bridge is the architectural marvel; it is located at a height of 359 meters above the river, and is the world's highest railway arch bridge. It is a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. The 1,315-metre-long steel arch bridge is built to withstand seismic and wind conditions. A key impact of the bridge will be in enhancing connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. Through the Vande Bharat train moving on the bridge, it will take just about 3 hours to travel between Katra and Srinagar, reducing existing travel time by 2-3 hours. The 272-km USBRL project is built at a cost of around Rs 43,780 crore, and includes 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges. The project establishes all-weather, seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country, aiming to transform regional mobility and drive socio-economic integration.
