A migrant boat capsizes upon arrival at Spain's Canary Islands and 7 people die

Washington Post5 days ago

BARCELONA, Spain — A boat carrying migrants capsized within reach of shore as it arrived at Spain's Canary Islands on Wednesday and four women and three girls drowned, authorities said.
In the chaotic scene at El Hierro's port, survivors clung to ropes and life preservers tossed by rescuers.
Spain's maritime rescue service said the boat tipped over as rescuers started removing young people onto a rescue craft positioned between the migrant one and the quay. The movement of people on the boat caused it to turn over, the service said.

Barcelona not interested in Man United forward despite redemption in La Liga this season

Barcelona not interested in Man United forward despite redemption in La Liga this season – report Barcelona's desire to sign a new attacker has been well-documented so far, with the club particularly keen on the services of two Premier League forwards. The two players in question are Luis Diaz and Marcus Rashford. While Diaz was always thought to be expensive, Man United have now slapped a €40 million price tag on Rashford as well. Advertisement Whether or not this will prompt Barcelona to shift their attention to another alternative in the market remains to be seen. But one player they are definitely not targeting is Antony. Barcelona not interested in Antony A recent report from Diario SPORT has offered an update on the future of two Manchester United forwards in Rashford and Antony. The report reiterates that Man United have indeed put a high price on Rashford. But it has also revealed that Man United are seeking just €35 million for Antony Antony has found his calling in La Liga (Photo by) This is quite a reasonable sum for a player who has redeemed himself in La Liga. Indeed, the Brazilian, after a poor spell at Man United, joined Real Betis on loan last summer. Advertisement He hasn't had to look back since, emerging as one of Real Betis' key difference-makers in the attack this season, with a tally of nine goals and five assists for Los Beticos. However, the report clarifies that Barcelona are not interested in the services of Antony despite his redeeming form in La Liga this season. It appears the Catalans are more interested in signing Rashford, a player Hansi Flick considers more versatile and suited to Barcelona's game. This is despite the fact that valuations do seem more attractive for Antony, who is younger and has already proven himself in La Liga. But as mentioned earlier, Barça are focusing on experience and tactical flexibility, more than anything else.

Rosberg says Verstappen antics 'extremely unacceptable' as ban looms

Former F1 world champion Nico Rosberg thinks Red Bull's Max Verstappen should have been disqualified from the Spanish Grand Prix after appearing to deliberately ram George Russell's Mercedes. The Dutch world champion was annoyed at having to let the Briton overtake him after a previous near collision, which Rosberg acknowledges was not Verstappen's fault. Advertisement But his decision to pretend to let Russell pass before speeding up and hitting the Mercedes caused a 10-second penalty and knocked him down from fifth to 10th. Rosberg believes he got off lightly with a "very lenient" punishment in Barcelona. "It looked like a very intentional retaliation," he told Sky Sports. "Wait for the opponent, go ramming into him, just like you felt the other guy rammed into you at Turn 1. "That's something which is extremely unacceptable and I think the rules would be a black flag, yes. If you wait for your opponent to bang into him, that's a black flag." Advertisement A black flag means disqualification from the race being run. Verstappen may have avoided being thrown out of the Spanish Grand Prix but F1 bosses are bound to look again at his conduct. He also risks a possible future race ban because of the number of penalty points he has picked up in a 12-month period. He now has 11 and reaching 12 can trigger a suspension.
