BREAKING NEWS Travis Decker manhunt continues in remote Washington mountain trail as police vow to 'not give up'

Daily Maila day ago

The manhunt for killer dad Travis Decker continues, Washington State cops said today – despite raising hopes of a swift end to the search last night.
Decker has been on the lam for 12 days and is charged with three counts of aggravated murder after the bodies of his three daughters Paityn, nine, Evelyn, eight, and Olivia, five, were found at a woodland campsite on June 2.
Chalon County Sheriff Mike Morrison said during the press conference the search will continue with the help of Border Patrol and they will 'not give up' on the search for Decker.
He did, however, say 'tactics would change' and warned that all it would take would be 'one mistake' for him to be caught.
Former soldier Decker has spent the past two weeks hiding out in the Wenatchee Mountains – a rugged stretch of peaks that stretch for 50 miles across central Washington State.
Exclusive Daily Mail photos show exactly how challenging the search has been, with thick forest and soaring peaks of up to 9,500ft dominating the area.
Complicating the search is the fact that Decker, a former soldier, knows the area intimately and has ample experience of living rough – once spending two months living off grid in the backwoods.
Photos released by the Chalon County Sheriff's Office show searchers battling through the mountainous terrain – with cops pictured searching the snowy flanks of Mount Stuart and being choppered to mountain meadows hundreds of feet above the valley floor.
Until Monday, Decker had not been seen since vanishing with the three children following a scheduled custody visit on May 30.
Their mother Whitney, 35, called the cops after he failed to return with the girls and could not be reached by phone.
Chelan County Sheriff's Office deputies found the girls' bodies about 75 to 100 yards from Decker's truck at a campsite. Police believe the girls died from asphyxiation and reported that their wrists were zip-tied, court documents said
Three days later, the children were found suffocated at the remote Rock Island Campground near Leavenworth, with plastic bags over their heads and bound with zip ties.
Police said Decker's 2017 GMC truck was also found at the scene and had two bloody handprints on the back gate.
Shortly after, a no-bail arrest warrant was issued for Decker, charging him with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of kidnapping.
On Monday, cops revealed they were finally closing in on the alleged killer, saying in a statement that a tip from a hiker had led to a breakthrough.
'Our office recently received a tip from a hiking party who stated they spotted a lone hiker in the Enchantments area who appeared to be ill-prepared for trail and weather conditions and appeared to be avoiding others,' the statement said.
'Tracking teams immediately acted upon the information and spotted a lone, off-trail hiker from a helicopter near Colchuck Lake who ran from sight as the helicopter passed.'
An alert was later issued to residents in the Ingalls Creek and the Valley High communities – warning them to lock up their homes and vehicles and be on the lookout for Decker.
'Residents and visitors are urged to secure homes and vehicles, remain vigilant, and report any suspicious activity to 911,' an alert said.
'A heightened law enforcement presence will persist as a precautionary measure.'
That alert was lifted Wednesday morning at 11.30am, while the police presence in the area was noticeably diminished when the Daily Mail visited the same day.
A plane that cops had been using to scour the area had also departed – traveling to an airport in state capital Olympia, a three-hour flight away.
The bearded dad-of-three is a former soldier who joined the Army 2013. He served in Afghanistan before transferring to the Washington National Guard in 2021.
He was a full-time member of the Guard until 2023 or 2024, when he switched to part-time.
Decker stopped attending mandatory monthly drills a little over a year ago, and the Guard was in the process of a disciplinary discharge.
According to ex-wife Whitney, he has been suffering from mental health issues in recent years and was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
Still, Whitney told police she didn't believe Decker was dangerous and said he loved his daughters.
She said the girls had a 'good relationship with Decker and enjoy their time with him,' and noted that he had never failed to return the girls before, according to a police affidavit.
Whitney added that when Decker went to pick up the girls for the visit on Friday, he was 'quieter than usual' which was 'out of character' for him.
He had also allegedly been talking about getting rid of his dog due to housing and financial struggles.
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Mail in an interview published earlier today, Decker's older brother Thomas said the alleged killer is not the man he knew – and saw just a week before the murders.
'The guy on the wanted poster for murdering my three nieces is not the brother I know,' said Thomas. 'I can't even comprehend what is going on.
'I am in complete shock that he would do something like this. He loves his daughters – at least I thought he did. And Whitney is devastated beyond belief.'

BREAKING NEWS Ex-NFL star Antonio Brown wanted by police on attempted murder charge after wielding gun in shocking brawl

Miami-Dade County police are looking to arrest troubled ex-NFL star Antonio Brown on an attempted murder charge as a result of a shooting at a boxing event last month in Florida. Brown appeared to pull out a gun before shots are fired in shocking footage from a celebrity boxing event in Miami a few weeks ago. Before a gun appeared, Brown was seen fighting among a few men and has been accused of lying about the shocking brawl he was involved in after the controversial ex-NFL star claimed he was simply fighting off attackers who were trying to steal his jewelry. The warrant was signed by a judge on Wednesday and lists Brown being charged with attempted murder with a firearm and states the former wide receiver to post $10,000 bond and remain under house arrest pending a trial, per the Washington Post. The 36-year-old was dragged to the floor by a man who, it later emerged, was a member of security trying to protect him. In the carnage, however, he kicked out at the man. Shortly after, in other clips, Brown re-appeared from behind a car carrying what seemed to be a firearm in his hand. The videos showed him rushing outside before a couple of gunshots were heard, causing panicked bystanders to flee. In another clip that appeared on social media, he could be seen being led out - with his arms behind his back - by a police officer. Zül-Qarnaįn Nantambu, 43, claims he was one of the men seen brawling with Brown outside the boxing event - but he has a completely different version of events. In an interview with TMZ Sports, Zül-Qarnaįn has alleged that he was actually the victim of the attack after being jumped by the Super Bowl winner and two of his friends, before Brown fired gunshots at him with children nearby. 'He's a liar,' he said about Antonio. 'If you watch the video everybody was attacking me, it was a 3v1. 'The dude with the green hoodie was with AB, the other little Puerto Rico-looking dude that was swinging the bat was with AB, and the rest was Adin's security. The guy that he kicked was Adin's security. All he was doing was pulling him away. He tried to swing on me, scratched my neck, and then it just turned into a brawl from there.' Zül-Qarnaįn - a Muslim 'freedom fighter' and self-proclaimed hip-hop artist, fashion designer and filmmaker - claims his feud with Brown goes back three years after the former New England Patriots star allegedly got him arrested in Dubai back in 2022. He also suggested Brown owes him $180,000 despite not clarifying why. After what he claims was an ambush from Brown and his friends, Zül-Qarnaįn Nantambu alleges the polarizing football player then went and obtained a firearm before unloading in his direction. 'He went got a gun, shot wildfire and we fight,' he continued. 'He shot at me twice, praise be to Allah I wasn't hit. They got children out their selling candy bro. He could've hit one of them kids.'

Woman who phoned 999 and told operator her husband had killed himself is found guilty of murder

A woman who overpowered her husband and attacked him before telling a 999 operator he had taken his own life has been found guilty of his murder. Amy Pugh, 34, told a jury at Stafford Crown Court that she had found her husband hanging when she opened the back door of her family home in Newport, Shropshire, on the evening of March 22, 2022. Kyle Pugh, 30, had suffered compression to the neck and fractures to the structure of the neck, as well as a fractured nose and eye socket and died at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford surrounded by his family on March 23, 2022. Pugh, who wore a white top and black suit, put her hands to her mouth in the dock after the jury returned a verdict of guilty of murder on Thursday after more than 11 hours of deliberations. The court heard Pugh had called her father before dialling 999 20 minutes after 'gaining the upper hand' over her husband, from whom she was separated, in a fight in the kitchen and attacking him. She told the emergency call handler her husband had taken his own life and could be heard saying: 'Kyle, wake up, why have you done this.' Mr Pugh had been in a new relationship with another woman but was at the family home in Aston Drive, to visit his children on the night of the incident. While they were initially in the kitchen listening to music, Pugh told the court she had 'lost composure' after finding out her estranged husband's new partner may be pregnant and they had an argument. She had claimed her husband had left the house and she later opened the back door to let the dog into the garden and found him hanging before dragging him inside. But prosecutor Julian Evans KC told the trial that the story was a 'complete fiction' and that Pugh had inflicted the injuries on her husband herself. The court heard the two had a 'volatile, turbulent and abusive' relationship which would involve physical violence to each other and was often fuelled by drink or drugs. Mr Evans said Pugh was aware her husband had 'vulnerabilities', had a history of self-harm and had made previous suicide attempts and had 'quite deliberately and quite callously sought to use them to her own advantage'. Pugh had told the court the two were like 'lovestruck teenagers' when they first began a relationship in 2012 but the relationship became toxic, with Mr Pugh breaking her jaw and her arm in two separate incidents. The defendant said she would initially push her husband away when he hit her, but as the years went on, the violence got worse so she started to fight back. By the time of the incident, Pugh admitted they would both drink and smoke cannabis heavily. When paramedics arrived at the scene, they managed to restore Mr Pugh's pulse but he died in hospital the next day. Judge Kristina Montgomery KC thanked the jury for their work on the trial and said Pugh, of Stafford Road, Wolverhampton, West Midlands, would be sentenced on September 5.
