The Brooklyn Nets are just a few days away from the fate of the franchise being decided by where the ping-pong balls fall during the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery on Monday. During the event, teams normally send someone to represent their organization and in Brooklyn's case, they will be sending the man that will be coaching the player that the team takes with their Lottery pick.
The Nets announced on X that head coach Jordi Fernandez will be representing the franchise at the NBA Draft Lottery, implying that the franchise is hoping that he can bring the team luck in the event. Brooklyn heads into the Lottery sixth in the standings, but their pick could be somewhere different depending on the kind of luck that they get on Monday.
Heading into the Lottery, the Nets have a 9.0% chance of getting the first overall pick, granting them the ability to select Duke forward Cooper Flagg to give the team their first franchise player during this rebuild. More to the point, Brooklyn has a 37.2% chance of their pick landing in the top-4, meaning that they have a good chance of moving up from the sixth spot based on the odds.
As of this writing, the Nets are able to land picks 1-4 and 6-10 so the worst pick they can get is 10th, which would be a disappointment for a team that was hoping to be able to draft a blue-chip prospect in this Draft. In terms of percentages, the most likely outcome for Brooklyn is getting a top-4 pick, followed by a 29.7% chance of landing the seventh overall pick and a 20.6% chance of getting the eighth pick.
Technically, the most likely event to happen for the Nets is to get a pick somewhere between No. 7 and No. 8, given that the combined percentages of that happening is 50.3%. Either way, with Brooklyn hoping that they can get the highest pick possible, the franchise is looking for Fernandez to give the team the kind of luck that it hasn't had in quite some time since moving from New Jersey.

Heading into the Draft, Brooklyn has the No. 8, No. 19, No. 26, No. 27, and No. 36 overall picks, giving them the most draft capital in the event as well. One thing that has been made clear since this offseason began has been that the Nets are one of the teams that can execute a number of strategies this summer due to their draft capital and cap space. Brooklyn is still looking for the young player that can potentially be a superstar for them one day and the five draft picks give them multiple bites at that apple while the cap space ensures that they can re-sign their own free-agents and still add proven talent. However, as Marks pointed out, it seems that the one thing that Brooklyn shouldn't do is use most of their assets to go after a player like Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo or Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant due to the state of the roster. As it stands, it looks like the Nets will will bring in at least two players through the Draft and could use most of their cap space to take chances on restricted free-agents like Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, for example. Coaches without jobs such as Michael Malone have been mentioned for the position, but could the Knicks pursue a coach who is currently employed by an NBA team such as Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks? Moving on from Kidd would add yet another transition to be made for a franchise that is still recovering from losing Doncic to the Lakers. The Knicks scooped up Smith, and he just led their medical staff to an award-winning season. Could Jason Kidd actually leave Mavericks for Knicks? Jason Kidd actually bolting the Mavericks for the Knicks still feels like a long shot, but it's notable that major reporters with Dallas ties aren't dismissing the idea. Kidd does have ties to New York, having played there during his NBA career and then coaching Jalen Brunson in Dallas. Kidd also coached Giannis Antetokounmpo on the Milwaukee Bucks, and some have wondered if the Knicks will pursue Giannis this offseason.
