Nets' Jordi Fernandez to represent team at 2025 NBA Draft Lottery
The Brooklyn Nets are just a few days away from the fate of the franchise being decided by where the ping-pong balls fall during the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery on Monday. During the event, teams normally send someone to represent their organization and in Brooklyn's case, they will be sending the man that will be coaching the player that the team takes with their Lottery pick.
The Nets announced on X that head coach Jordi Fernandez will be representing the franchise at the NBA Draft Lottery, implying that the franchise is hoping that he can bring the team luck in the event. Brooklyn heads into the Lottery sixth in the standings, but their pick could be somewhere different depending on the kind of luck that they get on Monday.
Heading into the Lottery, the Nets have a 9.0% chance of getting the first overall pick, granting them the ability to select Duke forward Cooper Flagg to give the team their first franchise player during this rebuild. More to the point, Brooklyn has a 37.2% chance of their pick landing in the top-4, meaning that they have a good chance of moving up from the sixth spot based on the odds.
As of this writing, the Nets are able to land picks 1-4 and 6-10 so the worst pick they can get is 10th, which would be a disappointment for a team that was hoping to be able to draft a blue-chip prospect in this Draft. In terms of percentages, the most likely outcome for Brooklyn is getting a top-4 pick, followed by a 29.7% chance of landing the seventh overall pick and a 20.6% chance of getting the eighth pick.
Technically, the most likely event to happen for the Nets is to get a pick somewhere between No. 7 and No. 8, given that the combined percentages of that happening is 50.3%. Either way, with Brooklyn hoping that they can get the highest pick possible, the franchise is looking for Fernandez to give the team the kind of luck that it hasn't had in quite some time since moving from New Jersey.

Nets regarded as team to watch over course of 2025 NBA offseason

The Brooklyn Nets have plenty of decisions to make this offseason given that they have five picks in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft along with the most cap space in the league. The Draft begins on June 25 and there is a possibility that free-agency could begin before that so it only makes sense that Brooklyn is regarded as one of the teams to watch this summer. "The Nets have two things no other team has this offseason: four first-round picks in June and more than $40 million in cap space," ESPN's Bobby Marks said when discussing why the Nets are one of the teams to watch. Heading into the Draft, Brooklyn has the No. 8, No. 19, No. 26, No. 27, and No. 36 overall picks, giving them the most draft capital in the event as well. Advertisement "However, unlike the 2019 offseason when Durant and Kyrie Irving signed as free agents, the current roster is not championship ready, even with the addition of an All-NBA player," Marks continued. "Therefore, Brooklyn is a candidate to sign free agents to bloated contracts (similar to what the Indiana Pacers did with Bruce Brown in 2023), take back salary in exchange for draft picks and target restricted free agents with an offer sheet." One thing that has been made clear since this offseason began has been that the Nets are one of the teams that can execute a number of strategies this summer due to their draft capital and cap space. Brooklyn is still looking for the young player that can potentially be a superstar for them one day and the five draft picks give them multiple bites at that apple while the cap space ensures that they can re-sign their own free-agents and still add proven talent. However, as Marks pointed out, it seems that the one thing that Brooklyn shouldn't do is use most of their assets to go after a player like Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo or Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant due to the state of the roster. As it stands, it looks like the Nets will will bring in at least two players through the Draft and could use most of their cap space to take chances on restricted free-agents like Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, for example. How Mavericks, Knicks could discuss Jason Kidd trade after Tom Thibodeau firing

The post How Mavericks, Knicks could discuss Jason Kidd trade after Tom Thibodeau firing appeared first on ClutchPoints. The New York Knicks recently fired head coach Tom Thibodeau. The move was surprising as Thibodeau coached the big-market team for five years and led them to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2025. Nevertheless, speculation has already surfaced around who the Knicks' next head coach will be. Coaches without jobs such as Michael Malone have been mentioned for the position, but could the Knicks pursue a coach who is currently employed by an NBA team such as Jason Kidd of the Dallas Mavericks? Advertisement Kidd, who has led the Mavs to the Western Conference Finals twice since taking over the head coaching position in Dallas, signed a multi-year contract extension with the team in 2024. The move seemingly suggested that Kidd would remain in Dallas for the foreseeable future. The Knicks are rumored to have interest in Kidd, though. If New York is serious about bringing in the Mavs head coach, perhaps a trade offer can be made. Coaches can be traded in the NBA, but it would be fairly complicated. Details of possible Knicks-Mavericks Jason Kidd head coach trade Head coaches have indeed been traded in the past. For example, the Boston Celtics traded Doc Rivers to the Los Angeles Clippers for a first round pick in 2013. Stan Van Gundy took over head coaching duties for the Orlando Magic in 2007, and Van Gundy's former team, the Miami Heat, received a second round pick in return. In 2014, Kidd himself was traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Milwaukee Bucks for two second round picks. Advertisement The Rivers deal could provide the blueprint for a possible Knicks-Mavercks trade. Rivers still had three years on his contract with the Celtics but ended up signing a new three-year deal with the Clippers following the trade. Players can't be traded in coach-led deals, though, so don't expect the Mavs to acquire someone like Karl-Anthony Towns for Jason Kidd. If a deal were to come to fruition, the Knicks would likely send the Mavericks a first or second round pick. Since Kidd still has a couple of years left on his contract, Dallas would probably desire a first round pick. Will the Mavs consider trading Kidd? Jerome Miron-Imagn Images In all reality, Dallas probably won't part ways with Jason Kidd. There has already been no shortage of change in Dallas over the past year with the Mavs trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and a first round pick in February. Advertisement Dallas is turning to a new core of players. The team is hopeful that Kidd can lead the way as Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson and Kyrie Irving (once he returns from injury) prepare for the future. The possibility of selecting Cooper Flagg — as the Mavericks won the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery — provides an extra layer of excitement. Moving on from Kidd would add yet another transition to be made for a franchise that is still recovering from losing Doncic to the Lakers. One has to imagine that Dallas will keep Kidd for at least one more season before seriously considering a new direction at the head coaching position. With that being said, Doncic wasn't expected to be traded and the Mavs made that decision. Anything can happen. If general manager Nico Harrison wants to make another change, then perhaps a deal will be discussed. However, Harrison seems to respect and trust Kidd, so a trade still appears to be unlikely. NBA rumors: Why Tim MacMahon ‘won't dismiss' Jason Kidd leaving Mavericks for Knicks

The post NBA rumors: Why Tim MacMahon 'won't dismiss' Jason Kidd leaving Mavericks for Knicks appeared first on ClutchPoints. The New York Knicks are looking for a new head coach to replace the fired Tom Thibodeau, and NBA insider Marc Stein recently reported that Dallas Mavericks head coach and former Knicks player Jason Kidd is on their radar. While Stein acknowledged that he expected the Mavs wouldn't allow such a move to happen, he didn't entirely rule it out. ESPN's Tim MacMahon, who's also well plugged in with Dallas, wouldn't 'dismiss the possibility' either on a recent episode of Brian Windhorst The Hoop Collective. While MacMahon doesn't 'know or think' Kidd wants out of Dallas, he notes that the Mavericks head coach wasn't a fan of some recent moves that have been made by the franchise. The Luka Doncic trade is assumed here, but MacMahon actually brings up the dismissal of longtime athletic trainer Casey Smith in 2023. The Knicks scooped up Smith, and he just led their medical staff to an award-winning season. Could Jason Kidd actually leave Mavericks for Knicks? Jason Kidd actually bolting the Mavericks for the Knicks still feels like a long shot, but it's notable that major reporters with Dallas ties aren't dismissing the idea. Kidd does have ties to New York, having played there during his NBA career and then coaching Jalen Brunson in Dallas. Kidd also coached Giannis Antetokounmpo on the Milwaukee Bucks, and some have wondered if the Knicks will pursue Giannis this offseason. Advertisement The Mavericks still have a bright future even after trading Doncic, thanks largely to the miracle of winning the NBA Draft Lottery and the right to select Cooper Flagg. Kyrie Irving will miss the start of the season due to injury, but Dallas can still put together a good team with Anthony Davis, Flagg and other moves to help replace Irving. The Mavericks have signaled they will not be trading the No. 1 pick. But if Kidd gets a wandering eye, which he has before, perhaps Dallas and New York engage in trade negotiations for the coach. Coach trades are rare in the NBA, but never say never, especially after what happened with Doncic.
