We're so Back: New Jeep Gladiator Mail Truck Revives the Iconic Postal Jeep

Old postal Jeeps aren't worth much. So many of them were built, and so many of them were trashed, that they weren't even a dime a dozen. Shoot, they were more like a nickel a dozen. That's not the case with this new Jeep Gladiator mail carrier built by step van outfitter Morgan Olson, though. Just look at it!
It's a Gladiator pickup with the back chopped off, and in place of the rear seats and bed, you'll find a versatile service box. Morgan Olson officially calls it the Kestrel work truck after a breed of falcon, but it'll always be a postal Jeep to me.
The service box comes in different configurations, but no matter what, it's made of aluminum. Morgan Olson says that helps it stay close to the weight of a stock Gladiator, so somewhere around 5,000 pounds. That also means it achieves a max payload capacity of 1,700 pounds—just 25 pounds short of what you can load into a normal Sport S trim. The 137-inch wheelbase is also identical to a factory-fresh Jeep, though the overall length is eight inches shorter at 210 inches from nose to tail.
And before you ask, yes, Morgan Olson can build it in right-hand drive. Morgan Olson
A Jeep Gladiator Forum member who goes by TheDerb claims the target starting price is under $80,000. For context, the Gladiator Sport S starts at $43,295, so the service body comes just shy of doubling the price. I'll leave you to decide whether or not that's a good deal, but keep in mind that this was always going to cost more than tossing on a bed topper and calling it 'dry storage.' There's multi-level shelving, easy access from both sides of the box as well as at the back, and all the service body doors roll up instead of opening out, so you get the full tactile experience of being a mail carrier.
The more I think about it, the more sense it makes to use a Gladiator for rural package deliveries. It's one of the few midsize pickups left that you can still get without a turbocharged engine, and it's barebones simple inside. The hand-crank windows are out for 2025, however, which is kinda sad. At least you can blast your tunes through the Bluetooth infotainment, and if the weather calls for it, take off the doors for easy in-and-out.
I just might have to become a mailman. Morgan Olson

'Not That Simple': Hendricks Motorsports Insider Delivers Grim Update on NASCAR's Future

The call for more horsepower in NASCAR is growing louder across fan forums and pit boxes, but a top Hendrick Motorsports insider is dousing the flames. As NASCAR explores adding power to improve short-track racing, Hendrick Motorsport's powertrain director Scott Maxim says it's not as simple as flipping a switch. Momentum for more horsepower has picked up in 2025 with drivers like Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson advocating for it. Advertisement NASCAR's managing director of communications Mike Forde recently said on the Hauler Talk podcast that they are working on bringing back 750 horsepower to select tracks. The current Gen 7 cars run around 670 horsepower on most tracks. A jump to 750 horsepower would require changes to the tapered spacer. That's the piece NASCAR uses to regulate airflow and control horsepower. But anything above 750 would get much more technical and expensive. Also Read:: NASCAR Driver Reveals He Idolized Denny Hamlin Ahead of Veteran's 700th Start Credit: Peter Casey-Imagn Images But Maxim recently told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio it's not that easy. '750 would be an 80 horsepower increase over where we are currently at,' he said. 'you know, there's a lot of folks involved. We have four engine suppliers, we have three manufacturers and we have NASCAR. So it will take a lot of collective effort.' Advertisement 'If it's a moderate power increase, we have a pretty good understanding of the changes required,' Maxim added. 'If we were to have a higher horsepower target than that, then that would require some more extensive changes. But we'd have to be given clarity on the direction.' And clarity seems to be in short supply. While Maxim's comments leave room for small changes, the bigger picture is less rosy. Doug Yates of Roush Yates Engines said earlier this year that going back to 900 hp would shorten engine life and increase costs. 'That would be a big project,' he said. 'You'd need a new engine every race.' Also, NASCAR officials are skeptical. VP Elton Sawyer recently said increased horsepower could scare off new manufacturers by increasing costs and NASCAR's John Probst noted there's no evidence more power equals better racing. In the end, the dream of high-horsepower stock cars may be just that, a dream. While the technology exists, getting everyone on the same page with execution, safety and cost is a tall order. For now, Scott Maxim's comments suggest the future is about small tweaks not a full-on return to the past. Can Ryan Blaney get back on track in Nashville after 5 failed-to-finish NASCAR races?

There is no panic button on the instrumental panel of a NASCAR race car. And even if there was, Ryan Blaney insists he would not push it. Not even after all the misfortune he has run into this season. The 2023 NASCAR Cup Series champion hopes to leave all the bad that has happened to the No. 12, Ford Penske Team in his dust on June 1 in the fifth annual Cracker Barrel 400 at Nashville Superspeedway (6:30 p.m. CT, Amazon Prime Video) where Blaney has run well at times and not so well other times. Advertisement Because of various issues Blaney has failed to finish five of 13 races this season. Three of those races ― Phoenix, Las Vegas and Miami ― were run consecutively and the latest came last week at Charlotte when on Lap 245 Daniel Suarez spun into Blaney, forcing Blaney to hit the wall. HOW TO BUY CRACKER BARREL 400 TICKETS "When we have run all the races we've been really good, it's just a matter of trying to get some stuff going our way," Blaney said. "Hopefully, we're getting it all out of the way early. That's what I'm trying to tell myself. I don't feel panicked or down about anything. We're just trying to get it smoothed out." It's difficult to say if Nashville Superspeedway is a track where Blaney can count on doing well. The only pattern he's shown on the 1.33-mile concrete oval is that he runs really well one year and really poorly the next. Advertisement In 2021 he pitted with damage to his car before the green flag then hit the wall on turn 2 during the race after experiencing brake trouble and finished 37th. In 2022 Blaney finished third after leading during the second stage. In 2023 Blaney did not finish after losing control and hitting the inside wall on Lap 146 and in 2024 he was sixth after leading 26 laps. "But I like this place. I enjoy coming here for multiple reasons. I think the track is great. The area is obviously really, really nice and we get a great turnout for the race. Hopefully, we can get a chance to get a guitar trophy. The trophy is pretty neat." Advertisement It has been a multitude of problems that have plagued Blaney's team this season and overshadowed his third place finishes at Texas and Kanas along with four other top 10s. "At least we're not having one issue happen over and over," Blaney said. "Whether it's motors or wrecks, it seems like it's something different every time. I've always just tried to look at it like, 'How are we doing as a 12 team as a whole? Are we doing everything we need to do well? Are we communicating well, are we operating well?' That's been really good, so I've been happy with that. Some of that other stuff, you can't really do much about so there's no use in getting too frustrated about it."
