2 Tri-City school leaders make FOX News plea for ‘federal intervention' on trans athletes
Days after filing a formal sex discrimination complaint against the state for allowing transgender girls in sports and locker rooms, two Tri-City school board leaders made a Monday appearance on national television.
'We're asking for federal intervention,' Kennewick School Board President Gabe Galbraith told 'Fox & Friends First' host Todd Piro.
'We're asking (the Department of Education) to step in and be a partner in this, and kind of take the lead on ensuring we're complying with President Trump's federal order.'
Washington state law and procedures prohibit public schools from discriminating against students based on their gender identity. But those state regulations are at odds with recent action from President Donald Trump.
His Feb. 5 executive order, titled 'Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports,' threatens to revoke 'all funds' from educational programs that allow trans girls to participate in sports with their cisgendered peers.
Some outspoken school boards, including Kennewick's, want to see state law trumped. Galbraith says it's 'unfair' and 'not safe' to allow transgender girls in locker rooms and to compete in girls sports.
'(Superintendent) Chris Reykdal is a total joke,' Vice President Micah Valentine said.
'We tried to pass a financial literacy graduation requirement in this state, that didn't go down. Grades are dropping under his watch, meanwhile he's promoting LGBTQIA+ things, DEI, SEL — everything like that, he pushes, pushes, pushes. He has a very radical agenda,' he continued.
Their school Board on Thursday filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education over Washington state policies on who can use female locker rooms and compete on girls sports teams.
The complaint claimed violations of federal law by Washington state Superintendent Chris Reykdal, the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, and the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.

GOP bill seeks to ban and deport visa holders who support Hamas amid wave of antisemitic violence in America
FIRST ON FOX: New legislation would broadly ban any visa holders who support Hamas or other designated terror groups from remaining in the U.S. The Terrorist Inadmissibility Codification Act, led by Rep. August Pfluger, R-Texas, expands current law under the Immigration and Nationality Act to ban any members of Hamas, Hezbollah, al Qaeda, ISIS and Palestine Islamic Jihad from entering or remaining in the U.S. – in addition to anyone who endorses or espouses the activity of these groups. "There is no place in America for foreign adversaries or terrorist sympathizers. As our nation faces a disturbing rise in antisemitic and illegal alien terror attacks, along with increasing pro-Hamas sentiment on our college campuses," Pfluger said in a statement. "We must take action to ensure our borders are secure from those wishing harm against Americans." Attorney General Bondi calls out Gavin Newsom for not protecting city, vows to prosecute looters and rioters
Attorney General Pam Bondi went on the offensive Wednesday, accusing California Gov. Gavin Newsom of taking a soft approach to protecting the streets and businesses of Los Angeles, promising that anti-ICE rioters and looters will face federal charges. In a public address on Tuesday, Newsom accused President Donald Trump of "inflaming" the situation by activating 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to help restore order. "This brazen abuse of power by a sitting president inflamed a combustible situation, putting our people, our officers, and even our national guard at risk," he said. "California may be first, but it clearly will not end here. Other states are next. Democracy is next. Democracy is under assault before our eyes." Bondi told "Fox & Friends" co-host Lawrence Jones that she believes the California Democrat must be oblivious to the extent of the violence. "If you loot a business in California during this, we're charging you with robbery under the Hobbs Act. No longer are the days of non-prosecution for looting. It's a criminal act," she said. The administration is also determined to crack down on those who inflict harm on law enforcement. "We've all made over 190 arrests, [and] more [are] coming. If you hit a police officer, you assault a police officer, state or federal, we are coming after you." Newsom has maintained that the Trump administration has acted illegally and "commandeered" the state's National Guard members "for no reason" without consulting with California's law enforcement leaders. The Democratic governor claimed that California "didn't have a problem until Trump got involved." A federal judge on Tuesday night declined Newsom's request for an immediate temporary restraining order to restrict Trump's deployment of National Guard troops and U.S. Marines.
