Fans Upset Over NBA's Announcement After Lakers' Loss to Timberwolves
The Los Angeles Lakers find themselves on the brink of elimination after a 116-113 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 4 of their first-round series. Despite strong performances from Luka Doncic, who scored 38 points, and LeBron James, who finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists, the Lakers were unable to close out the game down the stretch.
A critical sequence late in the fourth quarter proved costly for Los Angeles. With 36 seconds remaining, Doncic was tripped by Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels. No foul was called, leading to Lakers head coach JJ Redick calling out this miss by the officiating crew (via Yahoo Sports).

Adding to the frustration was an official announcement made by the NBA on Monday. In its Last Two Minute Report, the league acknowledged they missed the tripping foul.

"Last Two Minute Report from Lakers-Wolves Game 4 holds up JJ Redick's contention that Luka Doncic was tripped and should have been awarded free throws," ESPN's Dave McMenamin wrote on X. "It does not support LeBron James' stance that the hand was part of the ball on the out of bounds call on Anthony Edwards."
The reaction from fans was swift and heated.
'What is the reason for fixing this now? Like it won't change what has happened,' one fan wrote.
"this league is a joke a chance to take the lead and the refs had CTE," another added.
Another fan chimed in, calling for a 'ref overhaul' and questioning the value of the reports after outcomes have been decided.

"No one cares you can't go back and change anything. They could have kept that to themselves," said another.
"These don't matter it's not changing the score," said another.
The Lakers now trail the series 3-1 and face a must-win situation in Game 5, scheduled for Wednesday.

Possible Lakers target Clint Capela expected to leave Hawks
Possible Lakers target Clint Capela expected to leave Hawks The Los Angeles Lakers will likely leave no stone unturned in their quest to upgrade at the center position this summer. In addition to turning to the trade market for help, they could also possibly find a serviceable center in free agency. Unless LeBron James unexpectedly opts out of his contract and signs a new one while taking a reasonable pay cut, the Lakers will only have the taxpayer mid-level exception of roughly $5.7 million to use, other than the veteran's minimum salary, to offer prospective free agents. One insider said that Clint Capela of the Atlanta Hawks is "expected to sit pretty high" on L.A.'s list of players to go after. According to Jake Fischer, another insider, Capela is expected to leave Atlanta this summer. "Rival teams have projected the Hawks as targeting big men with whatever draft slots they ultimately operate from," wrote Fischer. "After years of dangling Clint Capela on the trade block, Capela is finally expected to depart Atlanta via free agency this season, sources say. So the Hawks appear poised to have an opening for a center." The Hawks have been trying to overcome mediocrity for some time now. In seven seasons with four-time All-Star guard Trae Young, they have made the playoffs just three times and made it past the first round only once. This season, they finished with a 40-42 record, putting them in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, and they lost both of their play-in tournament games to the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat. Capela, who recently turned 31 years of age, may not be as athletic as he was several years ago. But he is still a solid lob threat and shot-blocker, and he averaged 8.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 21.4 minutes a game while shooting 55.9% from the field.

Magic Johnson makes expectations clear for Luka Doncic
The Luka Doncic era has begun for the Los Angeles Lakers. While LeBron James, presumably, has at least one season left with the team, the pressure and expectations of leading the team to success have shifted over to Doncic. In six seasons and change with the Dallas Mavericks, he reached the Western Conference Finals twice and the NBA Finals once. While that may be considered somewhat satisfactory for that franchise, things are much different when they play for the Lakers, a franchise that has won 17 world championships. Magic Johnson, who led the Lakers to five of those championships, made it clear during an appearance on ESPN's "First Take" that the standard of excellence for Doncic in L.A. is the Larry O'Brien Trophy. "Luka gotta understand this is not Dallas. To your point, Kobe [Bryant], superstar who led us, Shaq (Shaquille O'Neal) led us to a championship, LeBron led us. And that's what's missing here. We shouldn't have to tell you to be in shape, you should have been about that, right? Especially when you're a superstar. So this is gonna be an important year for the Lakers, important offseason for the Lakers." So far this offseason, Doncic has looked noticeably thinner, which is certainly a good sign. Assuming the Lakers improve the rest of their roster, it will now be on Doncic to lead the way, both on and off the court, along with James, as they continue to seek their 18th NBA title. Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle It won't be enough for Doncic to continue to put up insane numbers — he needs to consistently deliver in crunch time, something he didn't do enough of since joining the team, and especially during the postseason. That is what true Lakers greats such as Bryant, O'Neal, Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar did in the past and what James did during the franchise's last championship season five years ago.

New Los Angeles Lakers Rumor May Reveal Likely Big Man Trade Target This Summer
A new rumor reveals the Los Angeles Lakers attempted a trade for Atlanta Hawks big man Onyeka Okongwu this season. Could he be at the top of their center wish list this summer? Even before the Lakers made a historic trade for Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic, there had been rumors about the organization's desire to find an impact player for the center spot. The deal only exacerbated that need for the rest of the season. And it is expected to be a priority for the front office this summer. Advertisement Related: Los Angeles Lakers insider suggests LeBron James leaving this summer possible due to 'frosty' relationship Los Angeles did try to make a deal for a big after the Doncic trade. And they had agreed on a trade for Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams. However, after reviewing his medicals, they rescinded the deal. But this week, ESPN NBA insider Dave McMenamin revealed on the 'Straight Fire' with Jason McIntyre podcast that the team was working on a deal for a different player before Williams. 'Before the Mark Williams trade, and I can't tell you all the names on that list, but I actually assume he was one of the names on the list that Rob Pelinka presented to Luka, because I do know the Lakers made a call to the Hawks around the trade deadline about Okongwu,' he said [h/t Lakers Nation]. Is Onyeka Okongwu a good fit for the Los Angeles Lakers? After landing in Los Angeles, GM Rob Pelinka and Doncic sat down in February and went over possible big men that could benefit from playing with him and vice versa. Similar to how well he played with Daniel Gafford in Dallas the last season and a half. Advertisement If the Lakers reached out about a potential deal, that means the young superstar gave his boss the thumbs up on a pursuit. It is unclear why a deal didn't materialize. But the 24-year-old is a fast-improving talent and may be the heir apparent to Clint Capella in Atlanta. It is why the team gave him a four-year, $61.8 million contract extension before the season. So the Hawks won't give him up easily. So, is he a perfect fit for LA? McMenamin says yes, and no. 'I think lob threat, athleticism, absolutely. In terms of being a perfect fit, maybe not. They might not get a perfect fit, though,' he added. 'Clint Capela of 17-'18 might have been a perfect fit. But we're in 25-'26 now. So that is kind of the spot they're gonna be in.
