Yankees Trade Idea Reunites Aaron Judge With Former Outfielder

Yankees Trade Idea Reunites Aaron Judge With Former Outfielder originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The vast majority of New York Yankees trade rumors, even those dating back to spring training, have frequently featured third basemen and starting pitchers. Advertisement None of that is to say that Aaron Judge and the Yankees can't, or won't, acquire an outfielder ahead of the July 31 deadline—and perhaps the one who makes the most sense is a player the Yankees know all too well. It's only a matter of time before the 18-41 Chicago White Sox officially wave the white flag and pivot to 2026. Although former All-Star outfielder Luis Robert Jr. is the team's most popular trade asset, don't be surprised to see veteran right fielder Mike Tauchman also find a new home within the coming weeks. Tauchman, who doesn't turn 35 until December, pushed his average to .372 with two hits—including a solo home run—in Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Although hamstring injuries have cost him a significant chunk of time, Tauchman enters Wednesday hitting .372 with two homers, four doubles, a triple, and a stellar 1.132 OPS over 53 plate appearances. Chicago White Sox outfielder Mike TauchmanDaniel Kucin Jr.-Imagn Images Two things can be true: the Yankees don't need an outfielder, and there's no reason why they can't consider adding an outfielder. Advertisement The Yankees don't have a starting outfield spot, not unless the thumb issue Jasson Domínguez suffered in Sunday's victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers proves serious. Barring a rash of injuries, you likely won't see Robert or Orioles standout Cedric Mullins join the Yankees in a bench role. Tauchman is another conversation, though, and the Yankees know that firsthand. He gave the 2019 Yankees a massive boost, posting 3.9 bWAR and 13 home runs across 296 plate appearances for the American League runner-ups. The question becomes if the Yankees want five outfielders on the active roster, especially if Domínguez's injury proves minor. Former NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton no longer plays the outfield and is a full-time DH, robbing other players of potential half-days off. Advertisement Tauchman makes sense on paper, but only if the Yankees get into a situation where they feel adding a true outfielder is necessary. If anything, the Yankees are better off scouting the trade market for a utilityman who can play the outfield in a pinch, filling the role that injured third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera may have played in October. As of now, we expect the White Sox to trade Tauchman before the deadline. However, a second stint in pinstripes sounds and feels unlikely, at least given the current roster construction. Olympic gold medalist Gabby Thomas calls out bettor for following, heckling her at Philadelphia meet

Three-time Olympic gold medalist Gabby Thomas said she was followed and verbally abused by a sports bettor during a Grand Slam Track meet in Philadelphia over the weekend. 'This grown man followed me around the track as I took pictures and signed autographs for fans (mostly children) shouting personal insults- anybody who enables him online is gross,' Thomas wrote on X on Monday. Advertisement In response to a previous post from Thomas, a man posted a video of him heckling the sprinter at the starting line and shared a screenshot of a winning bet slip which showed he won over $800 on a parlay which included a victory by Melissa Jefferson-Wooden in the women's 100m. Thomas, who won gold in Paris in the 200m, was bested by Jefferson-Wooden in the 200 on Saturday and then beaten by Jefferson-Wooden again Sunday in the 100. The man wrote, 'I made Gabby lose by heckling her. And it made my parlay win.' In a thread, Thomas later replied to another commenter: 'Honestly the heckling is tolerable, it's following me around the stadium that's wild.' Grand Slam Track said Tuesday it's working to identify the man in the video and is investigating the incident. 'Grand Slam Track is conducting a full investigation into the reprehensible behavior captured on video,' the track circuit said in a statement to The Athletic. 'We are working to identify the individual involved and will take appropriate action as necessary. We will implement additional safeguards to help prevent incidents like this in the future. Let us be clear, despicable behavior like this will not be tolerated.' Thomas, 28, saw a boost in fame after winning gold in the 200m, 4x100m and 4x400m at the Paris Olympics last summer. Her rise in mainstream popularity has also brought more intrusive attention from fans. Earlier this year, she said in a TikTok video that she was repeatedly approached by a group of men at several airports asking her to sign a stack of photos. The men reportedly got aggressive when she declined. Thomas is the latest athlete to speak out on the alarming treatment from fans related to sports betting. Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. and his family recently received death threats from a fan on social media following a 13-9 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on May 10. The Astros alerted Major League Baseball and the Houston Police Department, which later identified the fan as a frustrated bettor who lashed out online while inebriated.
