Dassault, Reliance revive Falcon jet manufacturing tie-up

Time of India7 hours ago

French aerospace firm
Dassault Aviation
has revitalised a partnership with
Reliance Aerostructure
Limited to make its Falcon 2000 LXS executive jets in India for the global market, with the first jets expected to be produced by 2028.
"This is for the first time that
Dassault
Aviation will manufacture Falcon 2000 jets outside France, positioning India as a strategic global aviation hub. This is an epic moment for India as it joins the elite club of countries manufacturing next-generation business jets after the United States, France, Canada and Brazil," Dassault Aviation said in a statement released at the Paris Air Show.
The Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited (DRAL) facility at Mihan, Nagpur, which is currently manufacturing fuselage parts and components for the global Falcon line will be expanded to a 400,000 sq feet complex where the jets will be produced, said people familiar with the matter.

An investment of close to ₹1,000 crore is expected to be made in expanding the facility that will have the capacity to roll out 22 executive jets annually. The actual number of aircraft produced will depend on global orders and Indian requirements.
As per DRAL's earlier plans, the first of the Falcon 2000 business jets was to roll off the facility by 2022. The plans got derailed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which also had an impact on the global demand for civil jets, said the people.
Live Events
Once completed, this will be the first production line in India to make civilian jets. At present, Tata makes the C 295 military transport aircraft in partnership with Airbus, while
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited
produces a range of aircraft including fighters and helicopters.
DRAL will become the Centre of Excellence for the entire Falcon series, including Falcon 6X and Falcon 8X programmes that have largely civilian applications but can be adapted for military use as well. Eric Trappier, chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation, said that the agreement marks a ramp-up of DRAL, which was founded in 2017 and has been executing offset obligations for the Rafale fighter jet deal.
As reported by ET in 2019, internal calculations by DRAL claimed that the Make in India project can have a $5 million cost advantage due to lower labour and production costs at Nagpur as compared to the current facility in France. A Falcon 2000LX sells for more than $35 million.

Google opens Asia Pacific (APAC's) first safety centre in Hyderabad; to tackle AI fraud, cybercrime; CM Revanth Reddy hails Telangana's tech rise

HYDERABAD: Tech giant Google unveiled its first safety engineering centre (GSEC) in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region and its fourth globally after Munich, Dublin, and Malaga (Spain), in Hyderabad on Wednesday. GSEC India is housed within what is Google's largest base outside the US and was also its first port of call in India in 2004. An official statement said GSEC India will not only address the rapidly evolving threat landscape of India, which faces projected cybercrime losses of up to Rs 20,000 crore by 2025, but will also serve as a global hub of safety innovation driven by a combination of AI-powered threat detection, ecosystem collaboration, and policy measures. Heather Adkins, vice president of engineering, Google Security, said GSEC India will serve as a global lighthouse for their digital safety and security efforts. She said Google has been investing in security and safety teams in Hyderabad over the years and will be looking at investing in hiring the best talent for the centre, which is learnt to have started with around 200-250 engineers. Pivotal moment in T's journey as cybersecurity hub: Revanth The centre will primarily focus on keeping end users safe from online fraud and scams, strengthening cybersecurity for govt and enterprise infrastructure, and building artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025년 가장 여유 넘치는 농장 게임. 설치 없음 Taonga: 아일랜드 팜 플레이하기 Undo It will deploy advanced AI and large language models (LLMs) to power real-time scam alerts on Android, strengthen Google Play Protect, and enhance fraud detection. GSEC India will also tackle AI-driven deception through adversarial testing, AI-assisted red teaming, and tools like SynthID to watermark AI-generated content while focusing on ecosystem collaboration and intelligence sharing through platforms like the Global Signals Exchange (GSE). It will also advance research in areas like Post-Quantum Cryptography through partnerships with academia. Flagging off the facility, chief minister A Revanth Reddy said the first-of-its-kind centre in the Asia-Pacific marks a pivotal moment in Telangana's journey as a global cybersecurity innovation hub. "Google and Hyderabad are old friends... Google today has nearly 7,000 Googlers who call Hyderabad their home," he said, pointing out that the new centre affirms Hyderabad's crucial role in developing privacy, safety, and cyber-defence solutions and will attract top-tier safety engineering talent to the state. He said the Telangana govt was focused on growing to a $1 trillion economy by 2035 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047. "Our population is 2.5% of India's population but contributes 5% to its GDP. By 2047 we want to contribute 10% to India's GDP." IT and industries minister D Sridhar Babu said GSEC India demonstrates the power of public-private partnerships in building a secure digital infrastructure and will serve as a catalyst for innovation in areas critical to India's vision of becoming a global tech leader.

IST to be mandatory time reference, govt asks banks, Sebi to discontinue using other systems

Denny generated AI Image NEW DELHI: Ahead of making the use of Indian Standard Time (IST) as the mandatory time reference for all legal, commercial, digital and administrative activities, the govt on Wednesday asked industry, stock exchanges, Sebi, banks and those dealing with critical infrastructure to discontinue use of alternative systems such as GPS. Consumer affairs ministry Pralhad Joshi told reporters that his ministry will soon come out with rules making IST mandatory, which is the 'official and legal time of India'. This will secure India against cybersecurity vulnerabilities such as spoofing and jamming. The armed forces have been largely using IST with the time reference also used in Operation Sindoor, an official said. He added that GPS signals were denied to India during the Kargil War and also during the Mumbai terror attacks, in which terrorists were using satellite phones and the Intelligence Bureau had no information on how they were connected to foreign locations. 'Time keeping in the country is still dependent on a foreign satellite like GPS and we want to move away from GPS. Timekeeper National Physical Laboratory (NPL) has an accurate time scale, which is of the order of a few nanoseconds with respect to the world time,' said senior NPL official Ashish Agrawal. The consumer affairs department, Isro and NPL have developed an indigenous timekeeping system, which includes five atomic clocks at different locations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo The initiative aims at delivering IST with millisecond to microsecond accuracy through five Regional Reference Standard Laboratories (RRSLs) equipped with the atomic clocks. Consumer affairs secretary Nidhi Khare said, 'So far, we were dependent on external sources for time dissemination. We have Indianised the entire ecosystem of time and the department is now ready with the dissemination process.' This initiative will translate into more secure digital transactions, accurate billing in utilities, reduced cybercrime risks and synchronised timekeeping in transportation and communication. At present, several systems rely on foreign sources of time.

Asian stocks slide after Fed's inflation warning

Asian equities dipped on Thursday after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said he expected inflation to pickup meaningfully in the coming months. MSCI's regional gauge of shares was down 0.3%, as markets in Japan and Australia opened lower. US equity futures fell about 0.3% after the S&P 500 Index closed steady in the previous session. The dollar was little changed, and cash trading in Treasuries is closed Thursday for a US holiday. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Click Here Undo The Fed left rates unchanged in its Wednesday meeting and indicated it still sees two further cuts this year. Yet Powell said tariff-driven economic uncertainty and inflation risk continued to complicate the central bank's bid to ease policy. Oil steadied as the Trump administration offered few clues about whether the US will join Israel's offensive aimed at destroying Tehran's nuclear program. The broadly muted moves indicated a lack of direction across global markets as investors awaited further details on the global economy, US inflation and the prospect of heightened tension in the Middle East. 'The Fed's assessment indicates that the economy is in good shape, aligning with current economic data,' said Tai Hui, APAC chief market strategist for JP Morgan Asset Management. 'However, trade policy, fiscal policy, and unintended consequences of policies from the Trump administration' are contributing to market volatility this year, he added. Live Events Powell noted that increases in tariffs are likely to boost prices, while adding that the effects on inflation could be more persistent. He also declined to say if he'll stay on after his term ends. 'Ultimately, the cost of the tariff has to be paid and some of it will fall on the end consumer,' Powell said. 'We know that's coming and we just want to see a little bit of that before we make judgments prematurely,' he added. The Fed's decision to hold rates steady – coupled with Powell's latest warning on tariffs – underscores the delicate balance facing policymakers guiding the economy toward continued expansion. While officials continued to pencil in two rate cuts in 2025, they downgraded their estimates for growth this year while lifting forecasts for unemployment and inflation. 'Powell played it safe,' said Haris Khurshid, chief investment officer at Karobaar Capital in Chicago. 'They're sticking to two cuts for now, but clearly rattled by tariffs. No urgency to move. It's a tough spot: growth slowing, inflation lingering, and geopolitical risk heating up.' While the median expectation for two rate cuts in 2025 didn't change, a number of officials lowered their projections. Seven officials now foresee no rate cuts this year, compared with four in March. Two others pointed to one cut this year. The New Zealand dollar was stable Thursday after gross-domestic product data was slightly stronger than consensus expectations. Australian and New Zealand bond yields were little changed. The yen strengthened 0.2% against the greenback. Elsewhere in Asia, data set for release employment in Australia and rate decisions in Taiwan and the Philippines. Thailand faces fresh political uncertainty after the second-largest party in Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra's government quit the ruling coalition. Later Thursday the central banks of Switzerland, Norway, Turkey and the UK will also hand down rate decisions.
