1 arrested after student stabbed on White Castle High School campus
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A student at White Castle High School was stabbed in the leg on campus Monday.
According to the Iberville Parish School Board, the student was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim was identified as a 15-year-old student.
The Iberville Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating the stabbing incident. According to Sheriff Brett Stassi, a 17-year-old student was arrested on charges of aggravated second-degree battery and carrying a dangerous weapon by a student at school.
The school board sent a letter to parents shortly after the stabbing.
'We understand that this news is deeply concerning, and we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our paramount concern. We immediately placed the school on lockdown following the incident to ensure the safety of everyone on campus. The lockdown was lifted after law enforcement deemed the campus secure.
'We recognize that students may be experiencing a range of emotions in the aftermath of this incident. We will have additional counselors and support staff available in the coming days to provide support and guidance to students and staff who may need it. Please encourage your child to talk to a trusted adult, such as a school counselor, teacher, or family member, if they are feeling anxious or upset.
'We are committed to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for all students. We are extremely disappointed that this event occurred and will continue evaluating our existing security procedures to identify any areas for improvement and are committed to making necessary adjustments.'

Investigation underway after baking soda spills on I-110 South Friday afternoon
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An investigation is underway after the Baton Rouge Fire Department (BRFD) and its Hazardous Materials unit responded to reports of baking soda being dumped on the interstate Friday, June 6. The powder was found scattered across multiple southbound lanes of I-110, just south of Airline Highway near the Weller Avenue exit. The substance was also found on several nearby surface streets. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) and the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) helped shut down impacted lanes of travel. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LADEQ) was notified and responded to the scene. Louisiana State Police were also notified. BRFD's Hazardous Materials team conducted field testing of the substance, and after multiple presumptive tests, it was identified as sodium bicarbonate, or baking soda. There is no threat to public safety, officials confirmed. The scene has been turned over to LADEQ, and BRFD units will be clearing shortly. The interstate is expected to remain closed while cleanup efforts are underway. Appropriate agencies will be conducting an investigation to determine how the material was released and to identify the responsible party.
