6 yr-old Punjabi boy, becomes youngest in world to scale Europe's highest mountain peak
Rupnagar, June 30 (UNI) Hailing from Rupnagar town, Teghbir Singh sets the world record by scaling Mount Elbrus located in Russia at a staggering height of more than 18510 ft (5642 Meters).
At a tender age of 6 years and 9 months, Teghbir Singh, has achieved a remarkable feat – he has become the youngest ever in the world to scale the Mount Elbrus which is highest peak of European continent and located in Russia at a staggering height of more than 18510ft (5642 Meters).
Teghbir started the Trek to Mount Elbrus on June 20 and walked all along to reach the Elbrus peak, highest point of the mountain, on 28 June.
It is worth mentioning here that it is a low Oxygen trek and one needs preparation to tackle problems associated with Altitude Sickness. However, conquering all these challenges, he finally reached the summit, normal temperature of which is -10 Celsius, and fulfilled his dream.
After conquering the peak, he received the Mountain Climbing Certificate issued by Mountaineering, Rock Climbing and Sports Tourism Federation of Kabardino - Balkarian Republik (Russia ).
"It is to certify that Teghbir Singh from India, The world's Youngest Sumiter on Mount Elbrus at age
of 6 Years, 9 Months and 4 days" states the certificate.
Elated over the achievement, Teghbir said, "I knew where I was to reach and finally, I reached and
had a picture with my father there".
"I was walking first time on snow, my shoes were heavy, but I had practiced it back'added the 2nd standard student of Shiwalik Public School, Ropar.
With this feat he sets the new World record of summiting Mt Elbrus at age 6 years and 9 months surpassing the previous world record by Wagah Kushagra (Native of Maharashtra, India) who set the world record last year at the age of 7 Years and 3 months.
In August 2024, he had become the youngest Asian to scale Mt Kilimanjaro (Highest Peak of African Continent) in August 2024 and his name features in the Asia Book of records and India Book of records.
He had also reached Mt Everest Base Camp (Nepal) in April 2024.

Indian Women's Hockey team lose 2-3 to China
Berlin, June 30 (UNI) Indian Women's Hockey Team ended their FIH Hockey Pro League 2024-25 campaign with a 2-3 loss against China here. Though it was an inspired performance by India on Sunday, it was simply not enough to get the better of China. It was goals by Ying Zhang (19', 30') and Xu Wenyu (53') that helped China win while Sunelita Toppo (9') and Rujuta Dadaso Pisal (38') scored for India. This was the last match of the season with Netherlands finishing on top, Argentina finishing second and Belgium finishing third in the league while China have finished fourth in the points table. India sadly, have finished last and will be relegated and will need to play the FIH Nations Cup to earn their place again in the prestigious FIH Pro League. Though it was China who got on to a good start with an early PC, India made headway in the 9th minute when a pass from Neha Goyal to Sunelita Toppo led to a fine goal. The youngster from Odisha picked up the pass well, runs up wide to create space and got a clear shot on goal. Two minutes later, China threatened to equalise when they won a PC but India defended well. It didn't take too long for China to find an equaliser. In the 18th minute, China won a PC - though there was no goal from this attempt, Deng Qiuchan was hit on the face by Indian defender Manisha Chauhan while she was trying to clear the ball. Quichan had to be taken off the field, and the on-field umpire handed China a penalty stroke which was appealed by India. The video umpire did uphold India's review and awarded a PC to China, which they promptly converted through Ying Zhang. This year's arrangements for Yatra are significantly better from previous years: LG
Srinagar, June 30 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today said that significantly better arrangements have been put in place for this year's Amarnath Yatra compared to previous years. During his visit to Baltal in Ganderbal to review on-ground preparations ahead of the Yatra commencing on July 3, LG Sinha noted that the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board (SASB), civil administration, J&K Police, security forces, and all other stakeholders have implemented a range of pilgrim-centric measures to ensure a peaceful, safe, and hassle-free experience for devotees. LG Sinha also chaired a high-level meeting attended by senior officers from various departments and top officials from security agencies. The meeting focused on finalizing coordination mechanisms and reviewing the preparedness for the annual pilgrimage. Speaking to the media following the review, the LG expressed satisfaction over the comprehensive arrangements. "I have closely observed the last four pilgrimage and I can confidently say that this year, the level of arrangements and preparedness by administration is far superior ," LG Sinha said. He lauded the seamless coordination between the various security forces, emphasizing that robust and well-integrated security protocols have been established to ensure the safety of all pilgrims. "I hope that this year's pilgrimage will be smoother and more successful than ever before. And the pilgrims who will come from all over the country will return with a memorable experience," he added.
