Insurance company OUTsurance announces 100 new jobs
Insurance company OUTsurance Ireland has announced the creation of 100 new jobs over the next year.
The positions will be in sales, customer service and claims management.
OUTsurance said the expansion is in response to strong customer demand and interest since it launched its car and home insurance products one year ago.
"We have been thrilled by the reception we've received since launching one year ago, having hit our business targets for our first year," said OUTsurance Ireland CEO Peter Broome.
"It is on foot of this growth that we continue our expansion by hiring 100 people over the next year to meet overwhelming customer demand," Mr Broome added,
Applications for the new roles are already open, with the entry-level positions requiring no previous experience or specific qualifications, and training being provided to all successful candidates.
South Africa-based OUTsurance Group launched in Ireland in May 2024, becoming the first new locally authorised personal insurance underwriter in the country for over a decade.

Sheep trade: Spring lamb prices fall below €9.00/kg
This week's sheep trade has seen offers for spring lambs fall below €9.00/kg at all the key sheep factories. Up to 20c/kg has been cut from spring lamb prices, and many of the processors are less interested in hoggets as markets have now moved on to this year's lambs. Procurement staff have told Agriland that there are 'reasonably good numbers of spring lambs' coming available and these lambs are generally all arriving well finished with good carcasses. This week, Kepak is quoting €8.65/kg plus a 15c/kg Quality Assurance (QA) bonus for spring lambs, leaving €8.80/kg on offer here up to 21kg carcass weight. This offer is down 20c/kg since last week. The Athleague, Co. Roscommon-based processor is quoting €7.00/kg plus a 15c/kg QA bonus for hoggets up to 23kg carcass weight leaving €7.15/kg on offer here. This price offer is back 25c/kg from last Tuesday. Kepak is quoting €4.80 and €4.90/kg for cull ewes. Irish Country Meats (ICM) is quoting €8.70/kg plus a 20c/kg QA bonus for spring lambs, leaving €8.90/kg on offer here up to 21kg carcass weight. This price is down 10c/kg since last Tuesday. The Navan, Co. Meath and Camolin, Co. Wexford-based outlets are quoting €7.00/kg plus a 20c/kg QA bonus for hoggets, leaving €7.20/kg on offer here to 23kg carcass weight. This offer is down 30c/kg since last week. ICM is quoting €4.75/kg for cull ewes – down 25c/kg since last week. Ballon Meats in Co. Carlow is quoting €8.60/kg for spring lambs and €5.30/kg for cull ewes. Kildare Chilling has no official quotes this week but farmer-sources have told Agriland the factory is paying approximately €8.80/kg for spring lambs, €7.30/kg for QA hoggets and €5.00/kg for QA cull ewes. Sheep trade at Kilkenny Mart There were 450 sheep on offer at Kilkenny Mart today (Monday, June 9), with spring lamb prices described as 'disappointing and €20-30/head behind 2024 prices at this time of year,' according to auctioneer George Candler. The top call for spring lambs in the sale was €220/head or €4.31/kg for a pen of 10 lambs with an average weight of 51kg.

Factory quotes: Move to pull beef price continues this week
This week's factory quotes for beef cattle has seen most processors reduce their beef price offers for the second consecutive week. The move has seen 20c/kg taken off the base price in the past two weeks. One factory agent told Agriland he expects base price for prime cattle to move back towards €7/kg over the coming weeks. The move to reduce prices since the June Bank Holiday weekend has come as a surprise, as overall beef kill numbers are expected to be tight. But UK and Northern Ireland beef prices are also in decline. According to the Livestock and Meat Commission (LMC), the average deadweight prices excluding premiums in Northern Ireland for the week ending May 31 was £6.69/kg for 'U-3' grade steers and £6.68/kg for 'U-3' grade heifers. Cows grading 'O+3' averaged £5.66/kg. Factory quotes: Heifers and steers This week, heifers are being quoted at €7.40/kg on the grid, while bullocks (steers) are being quoted at €7.30/kg on the grid in general. Some heifers and steers booked in since last week are managing to secure last week's prices, which are up to 10c/kg higher, but procurement bosses sound adamant the lower prices will set in across the trade. Breed bonuses of up to 30c/kg for Angus and 20-25c/kg for eligible Hereford cattle remain available. Cow price Cow price has fallen again this week also, with one Co. Donegal-based outlet having also dropped its 10c/kg carcass bonus for cows. Despite this, up to €7.30/kg is being tabled this week for 'U' grade cows, with €7.00-7.10/kg available for 'R' grade cows. 'O' and 'P' grade cows are being quoted at €6.70/kg and €6.60/kg respectively for fleshed cows with good carcass weights. There remains plenty of variation in cow price between outlets, with some factories stronger on price than others for cows of different carcass specifications. Bulls Looking at under-24-month bull price quotes, 'U' grade bulls are being quoted at €7.60-7.70/kg this week, with €7.50-7.60/kg being quoted for 'R' grade bulls. 'O' and 'P' grade bulls are being quoted at €7.40/kg and 7.30/kg respectively. Under-16-month bulls are being quoted at €7.30-€7.40/kg on the grid this week.

Green light for Fáilte Ireland food hall in Dublin 2
Dublin City Council has given the green light to Fáilte Ireland for its planning application to establish a food hall at the vacant St Andrew's Church on Suffolk Street in Dublin 2. The council has granted planning permission after concluding that the planned food hall would comply with the zoning objective of the site and would not detract from the area's civic character. Fáilte Ireland will not be operating the food hall itself but will now instead press ahead with its plans to seek an experienced operator to lease the space out for food hall use. In a letter to Dublin City Council, Laura McCarthy from Fáilte Ireland stated that "the proposed change of use for the premises has the potential to create a major centrally based asset for the city, with the potential to inject cultural and economic value which would benefit local residents, employees and all visitors, both domestic and foreign". Manager at Corporate Services at Fáilte Ireland Ms McCarthy pointed out that food tourism generates around €2 billion to the Irish economy each year. She said: "In order to generate and sustain further economic opportunity and economic development we need to create iconic food and drink experiences – the proposed change of use and redevelopment of St Andrew's would be the embodiment of that vision. Ms McCarthy adds: "It is envisaged that the proposed food hall will showcase the best of local and Irish produce within a very high-quality setting which will not only reinvigorate but repurpose part of our capital city's historic building inventory." Planning documents stated that the new food hall has the potential to generate 30-40 full and part time jobs. The Swords-based Wright Group secured planning for a food hall at St Andrews church in 2019through its Mink Fusion subsidiary but with the Covid-19 pandemic intervening the firm did not proceed with the five year planning permission. In a separate planning report lodged with the application by David Mulcahy Planning Consultants, it stated that the proposed new use "will bring life back to this vacant building which is one of the most prominent buildings in the city". Mr Mulcahy stated that "the concept of a food/dining hall, which is essentially a permanent indoor market with associated dining facilities, is well established in most European cities and they are very popular for tourists, city residents and local employees". He said that the emphasis will be on showcasing local produce, fresh where possible,and all individual vendors will be required to provide a high quality offering.
