'Check My Age First': Elderly Man Rolls Out A Card, Stuns TTE And Fellow Travellers

An elderly passenger on a train showed his Aadhaar card instead of a ticket, revealing he was a senior citizen. He was let off despite traveling on a general ticket
What began as a routine ticket inspection on a sleeper-class coach of an Indian Railways train took an unexpected turn when an elderly passenger, calmly seated in a corner, left both the travelling ticket examiner (TTE) and fellow passengers surprised with a simple but dramatic gesture.
The incident occurred during a special enforcement drive being conducted across the Prayagraj division to catch fare evaders and unbooked luggage carriers. As the train rolled through the night, a TTE approached the elderly man and asked for his ticket. Instead of presenting one, the old man looked up and calmly said, 'Check my age first…"
Then, with an unhurried hand, he pulled out a card from his pocket. What he showed didn't just silence the inspector, it caught the attention of everyone seated nearby.
It was his Aadhaar card, confirming he was a senior citizen. Despite being seated in a sleeper coach, the man was travelling on a general ticket. Technically a violation, but given his age and the spirit of the law, the TT, after a moment's inspection, let it pass.
Behind this small, almost cinematic exchange lies a much larger story – a vast and ongoing operation by Indian Railways to root out fare evasion. In a sweeping crackdown recently launched across zones, including the Prayagraj division, over 8.9 lakh passengers were caught travelling without valid tickets. From them, a staggering Rs 58.62 crore in fines has been recovered.
Breaking down the figures:
This extensive operation underscores the Railways' renewed commitment to curbing irregularities and ensuring fair travel. Officials reiterated the legal consequences of traveling without a valid ticket, which can include fines, imprisonment, or both.
In a statement released alongside the drive, Indian Railways issued a clear advisory stating that to avoid inconvenience and to travel with dignity, you must travel with a correct and valid railway ticket.

Woman duped of Rs4.4L in job fraud

Pune: The Wanowrie police are investigating a complaint registered by a 35-year-old woman, wife of a Border Security Force (BSF) constable, on Thursday stating that a conman, under the pretext of helping her secure a job as a clerk at the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB), duped her of Rs 4.38 lakh between Nov 2023 and Nov 2024. Sub inspector Balasaheb Wakade on Friday said the victim is a resident of Vadu Budruk at Shirur. She holds a degree and visited the PCB in search of a job when she came in contact with the conman, he said, adding that the conman lured her by claiming he could help her secure the clerk because he was in the good books of the PCB officials. Wakade stated that the conman induced the victim to pay a total of Rs 7 lakh and assured her that she would soon receive a letter of appointment for the clerk position. She did not receive anything, Wakade said. Later, the woman and her husband, who is a constable with the BSF and posted in Siachen, realized that she was tricked and asked the suspect to repay the money. The suspect eventually repaid Rs 2.68 lakh and sought time to repay Rs 4.38 lakh, but to no avail. He eventually stopped communicating with her, the police officer said. The woman has shared the suspect's cellphone number and photograph. A police team is working on certain clues to arrest him, he added. Another top Maoist with 45L bounty killed in encounter

Raipur: In yet another big blow to the Left Wing Extremism (LWE), another senior Maoist rank cadre — Bhaskar, who carried Rs 45 lakh bounty — was neutralized on Friday in an encounter that broke out in the same area where Maoists central committee member Sudhakar alias Tentu Lakshmi Narasimha Chalam was gunned down on Thursday in the forests of Bijapur. The encounter was part of the same anti-Maoist operation underway since Wednesday being carried out by personnel from the state police's Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG) and CoBRA. Intermittent firing between security forces and the Maoist ultras took place the whole day and after the guns fell silent, security forces recovered the body of 45-year-old Maoist Bhaskar, who carried a bounty of Rs 25 lakh in Chhattisgarh and Rs 20 lakh in Telangana. Bhaskar was a Special Zonal Committee member of Telangana State Committee and was reportedly operating in the dense forests of Indravati National Park — a known Maoist stronghold. Three days ago, TOI had reported that security forces in Bastar have precise information on the locations of nine top Maoist commanders in Bastar division, and an operation to eliminate them is imminent unless they surrender. Speaking to TOI, Bastar range inspector general of police P Sundarraj said, "As part of the ongoing anti-Naxal operation in the National Park area of Bijapur district, security forces have recovered the dead body of another male cadre. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Air conditioners without external unit. In the same operation on June 5, security forces had recovered the body of Central Committee member Gautam alias Sudhakar along with an AK-47 rifle. The search operation in the area is still ongoing to trace other Maoist cadres in the nearby area. Detailed information regarding other Maoist casualties and recoveries will be shared after the operation concludes and full confirmation is received.
