Saudi Gazette report
RIYADH — The General Organization for Social Insurance (GOSI) launched on Sunday a directory for occupational safety and health standards to serve as a unified reference for specialists, establishments, and relevant entities in Saudi Arabia. This is aimed at enhancing safety and health standards while protecting workers from occupational hazards as part of its broader strategy.
The directory was launched at the opening of the seventh edition of the Global Occupational Safety and Health Conference 2025 (GOSH). Minister of Human Resources and Social Development Ahmed Al-Rajhi inaugurated the conference in Riyadh on Sunday.
According to GOSI, this directory of guidelines has been developed based on leading international practices in occupational safety and health. It aims to assist employers, workers in facilities, and inspectors by providing clear preventive standards to help reduce injuries and occupational hazards in the workplace.
The directory includes more than 4,500 standards covering six main sectors: public industries, construction, agriculture, maritime activities, transport, and mining. Additionally, it features a comprehensive classification of more than 70 sectors based on the national directory of economic activities.
The directory will establish standards that contribute to increasing productivity and promoting economic sustainability, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to achieve a prosperous economy by creating safe and encouraging work environments. Additionally, it seeks to enhance the Kingdom's position and its leadership role in supporting labor rights and investing in human capital, a fundamental pillar of comprehensive and sustainable development.

Smart medical wristband launched to monitor field officers' health during Hajj
Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — For the first time during the Hajj season, Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Interior has introduced a smart medical wristband powered by artificial intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT) technology to enhance the health and safety of security personnel serving pilgrims in the field. The wearable device continuously monitors the vital signs of officers deployed across the holy sites and sends real-time alerts to the Command and Control Center at the Security Forces Hospital in Makkah. In advanced or emergency cases, medical intervention is immediately dispatched. The Command and Control Center is equipped with electronic screens directly connected to the wristbands. A specialized medical team monitors the incoming data, classifies cases by urgency, and generates heatmaps to track health risks among personnel. The system enables proactive medical response based on real-time health indicators. The wristband is also capable of sending SOS alerts directly to the center, facilitating instant communication between the medical team and the officer, and allowing field units to provide immediate assistance. The system is fully compliant with national cybersecurity standards and data privacy regulations established by the National Cybersecurity Authority and the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA).

Most pilgrims remain inside their camps in Arafat until 4 p.m.
Saudi Gazette report ARAFAT — Most pilgrims remained inside their camps in Arafat until 4 p.m., in line with the directives of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. This precautionary measure is intended to ensure their safety during the peak hours of the day when temperatures are high. The directive helped bringing down the huge crowd of pilgrims around the Namira Mosque under sweltering sun while offering the Arafat sermon and performing Dhuhr and Asr prayers. The ministry also stressed the importance of adhering to the approved grouping plans and following designated transportation schedules. It underscored the necessity of strictly using official means of transportation, such as buses and the Mashaer Metro Train while prohibiting walking between sites, as this poses risks to pilgrims' safety and disrupts the orderly flow of traffic. These directives are part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to enhance the safety and comfort of pilgrims and to ensure a smooth and organized Hajj experience. The Ministry of Health monitored a number of heat stress cases among pilgrims on the Day of Arafah. In response, the ministry strongly emphasized the critical importance of avoiding direct exposure to the sun until 4 p.m. to safeguard pilgrims' health. The ministry urged pilgrims to use umbrellas, increase their water intake, and adhere to group planning. It underscored the continuous efforts of medical teams to monitor and treat cases, all as part of the health sector's comprehensive endeavors for a safe and healthy Hajj.
