Oman and Libya enhance economic ties
MUSCAT: As part of efforts to promote bilateral economic relations, the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) hosted a high-level Libyan business delegation within the framework of the Omani-Libyan Business Forum that began in Muscat on Tuesday.
The forum was attended by delegates from seventeen Libyan companies, with the aim of exploring possibilities of cooperation and mutual investment in a range of vital sectors.
Hamoud al Saadi, Second Vice-Chairman of the OCCI Board of Directors, received the delegation and pointed out the forum's role in developing cross-border commercial relations.
'We are pleased to host a delegation of Libyan businessmen in the context of developing bilateral investment relations,' Al Saadi stated. 'Seventeen Libyan companies are participating in the forum, which is being co-organised by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Libyan counterparts.'
He noted that the forum is showcasing a number of high-potential sectors like food security, infrastructure, medical industries, renewable energy, technology and healthcare services — all of which are Oman's national priorities and of high interest to Libyan investors.
Issa al Bahlani, Member of the Labour Market Committee at OCCI and Representative of Sarooj Construction Company stressed the strategic significance of such forums. 'The importance of these events cannot be overstated,' he said. 'They attract international investors who seek promising opportunities in the Sultanate of Oman,' Al Bahlani spoke about how Oman has presented a wide range of opportunities for Libyan companies to invest in, specifically in food, healthcare, and construction.

SRTA launches proactive plan for 5600 trips during Eid
Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, the head of the SRTA, highlighted the importance of being well-prepared during holidays. He noted that during the Eid al-Adha holiday in 2025, which runs from June 5 to 8, there will be a noticeable rise in public transport users. To handle this, the SRTA has made plans to operate 180 buses on various routes, aiming to complete around 5,600 trips over the four days. During peak times, buses will come every 5 minutes instead of the usual 45-minute wait. This means shorter waiting times and more convenience for everyone traveling. The authority is committed to making travel easy for people visiting family or exploring popular destinations, both within the emirate and outside it. They are also increasing staff at busy bus stations, especially the Jubail Bus Station, which will be open from early morning until late at night to accommodate the larger number of passengers expected during this busy holiday. Regular comprehensive trips The Authority has improved bus services in Sharjah City for the Eid holiday, making travel easier for everyone. They are running a total of 1,144 bus trips each day across 12 different routes, using 104 buses that connect to 543 stops around the city. Al-Othmani pointed out that these efforts are part of a plan to create a well-rounded public transport system that meets the growing need for travel during busy times like holidays. He noted that Route 22 will not be in service during the Eid holiday because the Souq Al Haraj market is closed. To make things easier for passengers, they have made some changes, including quicker arrival times and more ticket sales points at bus stations and inside buses, to minimize delays and crowding. To manage passenger flow, especially at the Jubail station, the teams have stepped up their preparations. They have increased the number of staff on duty and are providing the necessary support to ensure smooth operations. They are also allowing people to book bus tickets in advance and are keeping a close eye on how things are running to maintain a high level of service. Maritime transport During the Eid Al Adha holiday, there will be a special boat service operating between Sharjah and Dubai. Abdul Aziz Al Jarwan, who is in charge of transport at the local authority, announced that there will be four daily trips. These boats will leave from the Aquarium Station in Sharjah and arrive at Al Ghubaiba Station in Dubai, working together with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority. The trips will run from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a boat leaving every two hours. Each journey will take about 35 minutes. Passengers are encouraged to arrive at the station at least 15 minutes before their departure to ensure a smooth boarding process. This service is designed to provide more transportation options for everyone and help connect different types of transport. Promoting tourism Al Jarwan shared that the Authority is working closely with the Omani transport company, Mwasalat, to run international route 203. This route connects Sharjah with Muscat, the capital of Oman, and offers two flights each day. This service is expected to encourage tourism between the two countries, especially during the Eid holidays. Passengers can board at Jubail station and travel to Al Athaiba station, making stops along the way. Tickets can be purchased online through Mwasalat Oman's website or at their service points. Public engagement Al Jarwan mentioned that during the Eid holiday, a special call center will be available 24 hours a day to help people book taxis. This includes different types of vehicles like regular taxis, family-sized cars, options for women, vehicles for those with special needs, and electric cars. You can make reservations by phone, through a smartphone app, or by visiting a website. The call center keeps an eye on all the bookings to make sure taxis arrive as fast as possible. It also welcomes feedback from the public regarding bus and taxi services, helps with reports of lost bags, and answers questions about the services offered across the emirate, including Sharjah City and other regions. He highlighted that the call center plays a vital role in connecting with the community, gathering and analyzing feedback to improve services in the future.

Trump nuclear proposal allows Iran to enrich uranium: Report
The US will allow Iran to enrich Uranium at a low level for a predetermined amount of time as part of a nuclear deal, according to a proposal passed to Iran from the Trump administration, Axios reported on Monday. The report could reassure advocates of a deal, given Iran's insistence that it retain the right to enrich Uranium at some level, but is likely going to be met with fiery criticism by Israel and its allies in the US Congress. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been advocating for preemptive military strikes on Iran. Israel says the only nuclear deal it wants is akin to that which former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi agreed to in 2003, which saw the full destruction of Libya's nuclear infrastructure. Trump said last week that he warned Netanyahu not to launch preemptive strikes on Iran. But he also said on Friday that he wanted a deal in which "we can blow up whatever we want, but nobody getting killed". His proposal is a serious climbdown from that kind of talk. The figure is substantially below the 60 percent level it is currently at, according to Axios. It is close to the 3.67 percent enrichment level the Obama administration agreed to with Iran as part of the 2015 nuclear deal. What we know The previous Trump administration unilaterally withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in 2018. If the proposal stands as reported by Axios, it would mark a major concession by the Trump administration, which stated its own red line on a deal was preventing Iran from enriching uranium. "An enrichment programme can never exist in the state of Iran ever again. That's our red line. No enrichment," US envoy Steve Witkoff told Breitbart News in May. Like the Obama agreement, Iran would be restricted to enriching at the three percent threshold for a certain time period. The JCPOA imposed a 15-year time limit on Iran's enrichment limit. The Trump proposal leaves the time limit open for the following rounds of negotiations. The US and Iran have held five rounds of talks so far. The negotiations have been mediated mainly by Oman, but Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have met in person. The Trump proposal reported by Axios also appears to echo the 2015 deal in other areas. Iran will not be allowed to build any new enrichment facilities and must "dismantle critical infrastructure for conversion and processing of uranium", Axios reported. That language is similar to the 2015 nuclear deal, which mandated Iran to dismantle and remove two-thirds of its centrifuges. The Trump proposal calls for Iran to make its underground enrichment facilities "non-operational" for a period of time to be negotiated by the parties. The 2015 deal prevented enrichment at the underground Fordow facility until 2031. Witkoff sent the US proposal to Iran on Saturday. Enrichment Consortium According to Axios, it relies heavily on a "strong system for monitoring and verification" by the International Atomic Energy Agency. One key difference between the 2015 deal and the Trump proposal is that it envisions a regional enrichment consortium including Iran. Several reports have said that Saudi Arabia and the UAE - two key US partners - could join Iran as part of the consortium. The Gulf states vehemently opposed the 2015 nuclear deal, as they were locked in proxy struggles with Iran throughout the region. However, Riyadh and Abu Dhabi have had a rapprochement with the Islamic Republic over the last several years. Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said after Trump's visit to Riyadh in May that the kingdom 'fully supports' the nuclear talks. The White House neither confirmed nor denied the Axios report. Iran has yet to comment on it. On Monday, Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei told a news conference that Tehran was seeking clarification on debilitating sanctions relief as part of a deal. 'We want to guarantee that the sanctions are effectively lifted,' he said. "So far, the American side has not wanted to clarify this issue.' The Wall Street Journal editorial board published an article on Sunday saying the Trump administration had paused all new sanctions activity toward Iran.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan successfully concludes official visit to Oman

During the visit, Sheikh Hamdan was received by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, ruler of Oman at Al-Baraka Palace in Muscat. The leaders reaffirmed the deep-rooted historical and fraternal ties between the UAE and Oman and discussed ways to strengthen collaboration across a wide range of sectors, including economy, trade, tourism, culture, defence, and technology. Sheikh Hamdan conveyed greetings from UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, along with best wishes for Oman's continued development and prosperity. Cultural and Developmental Vision Sheikh Hamdan also underscored the shared commitment to exchanging successful development experiences and advancing a common Gulf vision for sustainable growth.
