Appeals Court Acquits Syed Saddiq Of Cbt, Misappropriation, Money Laundering Charges
PUTRAJAYA, June 25 (Bernama) -- The Court of Appeal here today acquitted and discharged Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman of four charges involving criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of property and money laundering linked to funds from Angkatan Bersatu Anak Muda (Armada).
A three-member bench comprising Justices Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim, Datuk Azman Abdullah and Datuk Noorin Badaruddin allowed Syed Saddiq's appeal to overturn his conviction and sentence of seven years' jail, two strokes of the cane, and a RM10 million fine imposed by the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Nov 9, 2023.
'We find that the prosecution failed to prove the abetment charge against the appellant (Syed Saddiq). The evidence presented was not credible and did not support the misappropriation charge under Section 403. Additionally, the money laundering charges under AMLA could not be sustained.

GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Communications is among three ministries recognised for successfully implementing reforms to reduce bureaucratic red tape, earning a special certificate of appreciation for the achievement. Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the ministry significantly improved the approval process for foreign film scripts, reducing the timeline from 30 days to just seven, resulting in regulatory cost savings of up to RM2.4 million per production. "This, in turn, enhances Malaysia's competitiveness as a preferred destination for international film production," he said in a Facebook post today. The Ministry's secretary-general, Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, received the special certificate from Shamsul Azri at a ceremony in Putrajaya yesterday. Another ministry recognised for its achievement is the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), where reforms were driven through the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), which successfully reduced the approval time for Electric Vehicle Charging Bay Plan Certifications from 28 days to just three. He added that JBPM also expedited the approval process for non-system-based technical plan certifications, reducing it from 30 days to just seven. 'This was achieved through streamlined procedures and the strengthening of the e-Premis system and development of a central data repository, resulting in annual regulatory cost savings of RM1.776 million,' he said. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) successfully reduced barriers to financing in the aerospace sector, generating RM17 million in regulatory savings for 50 small and medium enterprises by boosting production capacity by up to 30 percent. 'Gross profit margins increased by over 20 percent through automation and certification, further strengthening the supply chain and creating more high-skilled jobs. Reforms are being intensified and improvements accelerated,' he said.

10A and above SPM students to get matriculation placements: MOE

KUALA LUMPUR: All students who obtained 10As and above in last year's Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination and applied for the Matriculation Programme will be offered places, regardless of race or background. The Ministry of Education (MOE) said this was agreed upon at today's Cabinet Ministers' Meeting. "This includes students who obtained 10As and had A- results. This policy is the same as the one announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last year. "This decision is made to ensure all top-performing students in the 2024 SPM examination have the opportunity to further their studies,' it said in a statement today. It added that the existing Bumiputera quota system for the Matriculation Programme remains unaffected. Father and son caught processing ecstasy worth over RM1m

Muar police chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the 49-year-old man and his 23-year-old son were caught in the act of allegedly processing the ecstasy powder by grinding it before packaging it into drink sachets. 'The 4 pm to 10 pm raid led to the discovery of approximately 6,389 grammes of ecstasy powder worth RM1.06 million, along with various tools used for processing and repackaging the drugs. 'We also seized a Perodua Myvi worth RM13,000 and a Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycle valued at RM7,000, both believed to have been used in the drug distribution activities. 'The total value of the drugs and seized vehicles amounts to RM1.08 million. Investigations revealed the suspects began engaging in these illegal activities in February this year,' he said during a press conference at the Muar District police headquarters today. Raiz added that both suspects have prior drug-related criminal records, with the father having previously served a prison sentence.
