Lineker picks Mitoma goal as best of the season - and he loves Hinsh finish too
Gary Lineker praised TWO Albion goals as he said an emotional goodbye to his Match Of The Day audience.
The former England striker picked out Kaoru Mitoma's finish against Chelsea at the Amex as the programme's goal of the season.
And he also said he enjoyed Jack Hinshelwood's cheeky finish at Tottenham as he assessed the final day's action.
Hinshelwood put Albion ahead with a back-heel as they won 4-1 at Lineker's old club Spurs.
He has scored three goals in the last two games and five for the season.
But it was the back-to-goal effort which really delighted Lineker.
He interrupted Micah Richards analysis and told viewers simply: 'I like this one!'
Ex-defender Richards put the spotlight on Hinshelwood as he assessed the match for the flagship BBC1 television programme.
He said: 'I've really enjoyed his development.
'He can play at the back, he can play in midfield.

Why Milner was sent on late at Spurs - and was it goodbye?
'When you're looking at a player's temperament, how they improve, do they get nervous?
'He comes from a footballing family, he is very calm and he has taken his opportunity with both hands.'
Looking at the back-heel, Richards added: 'This is really clever, brilliant. Just a little bit of movement and a nice finish.
'He is in the England under-21 squad as well.'
Lineker was given the casting vote for goal of the season and went for Mitoma over an effort from Omar Marmoush.

Agreeing with Alan Shearer's nomination, he said: 'Mitoma's was a little bit different.
'We see lots of goals which are just blasted in but Mitoma's first touch, second touch, third touch and finish were exquisite.'

Kevin Durant Reportedly Thinks Spurs Are His Future Destination
Kevin Durant Reportedly Thinks Spurs Are His Future Destination originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Kevin Durant's days in Phoenix appear numbered, and the rumor mill is heating up with a surprising frontrunner: the San Antonio Spurs. According to Suns insider John Gambadoro, someone close to Durant recently spoke with him and mentioned the Spurs as a serious landing spot. Advertisement While the exact identity of the source remains undisclosed, Gambadoro emphasized that this is someone Durant trusts, a detail that has ignited fresh speculation that the 36-year-old superstar sees San Antonio as his next NBA destination. "So I do know somebody that has been with Kevin Durant recently, recently. And Kevin Durant and this person talked about the Spurs. And that's why I mentioned the Spurs." "I don't want to say who, but again, somebody that KD knows and trusts that was talking to KD, mentioned the Spurs. It's not just smoke either. The Spurs, despite closing another lottery-bound season, have been stealthily assembling a roster with win-now potential. Advertisement With Victor Wembanyama proving himself as a franchise cornerstone before being sidelined with a shoulder issue, and De'Aaron Fox arriving from the Kings to inject elite playmaking, San Antonio is missing just one piece: a proven veteran scorer with championship pedigree. Durant checks every box. Rumblings around the league suggest that the Spurs are ready to form a "new big three" of Fox, Wembanyama, and Durant, a blend of youth, athleticism, and championship experience. Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists this season while shooting an elite 52.7% from the field and 43.0% from beyond the arc. Even as the Suns stumbled to an 11th-place finish in the West, Durant remained one of the league's most efficient scorers. Meanwhile, Phoenix seems ready to hit reset. After giving up a haul to acquire Durant, Bradley Beal, and form a superteam with Devin Booker, the Suns failed to make the playoffs and became the most expensive roster in NBA history. With Beal's contract virtually untradeable, the front office's only real flexibility lies in moving Durant. Advertisement According to reports, the Suns' asking price for Durant has quietly dropped, making it easier for teams like San Antonio to engage in serious talks. San Antonio's offer is rumored to include the No. 14 pick in this year's draft, plus two valuable role players Devin Vassell and Harrison Barnes with additional picks and a potential inclusion of Jeremy Sochan. This package gives the Suns depth, youth, and cap flexibility moving forward, especially with Barnes on an expiring deal. While the Atlanta Hawks are also reportedly interested, their lack of trade assets could put them behind the Spurs. The Spurs, on the other hand, have everything a team like Phoenix would want in a rebuild: high draft capital, young rotation talent, and manageable contracts. For Durant, San Antonio presents a fresh chapter with a franchise known for maximizing talent and stability. Pairing up with a generational big man like Wembanyama could extend his championship window and remove some of the load he's had to carry in Phoenix. If this trade materializes, the Spurs would immediately vault into the contender tier in the Western Conference. Advertisement More importantly, the deal reflects a shifting NBA landscape, where younger teams like the Spurs are no longer content with development alone. They want to win, and adding Kevin Durant might be the final piece to do just that. Spurs' Potential Trade Package For Kevin Durant Most Likely To Include No. 14 Pick And Two Key Players
Spurs' Potential Trade Package For Kevin Durant Most Likely To Include No. 14 Pick And Two Key Players originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The trade chatter surrounding Kevin Durant appears to be heating up as the NBA Draft nears. While Durant has been linked to several teams in the offseason, primarily the Houston Rockets at this juncture, it appears the San Antonio Spurs have made a significant charge to acquire the forward. Advertisement Recent reports have suggested that the Spurs have emerged as the most likely destination for Durant in trade discussions. The Suns forward, who has seen reinvigorated efforts from Phoenix to trade him, was passed on because of the organization's high asking price for him. However, as the situation has taken a turn, the Suns have reduced their demands, allowing more teams to make a bid. The current bid by San Antonio appears to be the most favorable one. The Spurs' most valuable draft assets for this season are their No. 2 and No. 14 picks. Meanwhile, for trades, the organization has some key assets that could be worth exploring. Given the current scenario, it is likely that the trade will go through before the draft, unless a more favorable offer presents itself. That being said, as per Fansided's Jake Weinbach, the Spurs' current bid features a trade package including the No. 14 pick and two key rotation players in Devin Vassell and Harrison Barnes. While this may not be the complete package, it certainly presents a lot of potential. With this in mind, we take a look at an alternate trade proposal utilizing Weinbach's report. Advertisement Proposed Trade Details San Antonio Spurs Receive: Kevin Durant Phoenix Suns Receive: Devin Vassell, Harrison Barnes, Jeremy Sochan, No. 14 pick 2027 first-round pick (ATL), 2029 first-round pick While such a trade doesn't necessarily help the Suns shed some salary, it does bring in a lot of young talent. Meanwhile, the Spurs find themselves in a position to form a terrifying "Big Three". San Antonio's New Big Three Durant's arrival would signal a new era in San Antonio. Considering the mutual interest in joining forces, the Spurs would have one of the most potent superteams in the league. At 6'11", Durant is already oversized for his position. But placing him next to Spurs big man Victor Wembanyama could virtually help them form one of the longest frontcourts in the league. The potential for this lineup on both ends of the floor is tremendous. Advertisement With Durant and Wembanyama stretching the floor, the paint and the midrange open up for De'Aaron Fox to go to work. Fox has consistently shown his ability to dominate close to the basket. With even more attention being drawn away from him, the star trio has the potential to be lethal. Even at 36 years old, Durant is capable of carrying his weight on the offensive end. With an average of 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists last season, he remains one of the most complete players in the league. Additionally, his efficient shooting splits of 52.7% from the field and 43.0% from beyond the arc garner enough attention from defenders to help create alternate opportunities. Aside from the tangible elements, Durant brings a lot to the table as a veteran. As a mentor, he can help cultivate the incredibly talented young players on San Antonio's roster. Featuring the likes of Wembanyama and ROTY Stephon Castle, having Durant guide the young talent could be beneficial for the organization. Additionally, his experience as a two-time NBA champion will also prove to be invaluable. As a young team with effectively no playoff experience, San Antonio will need veteran leadership to guide them through the challenges of the postseason. The Suns Begin To Retool For Next Season The Phoenix Suns established their plan to retool around Devin Booker early on. Trading Durant to gain the assets to do so was a big part of the process, and with this trade proposal, the Suns acquire all the necessary pieces to start building. Advertisement While Booker remains a premier guard in the NBA, it has become clear that he is not capable of carrying a team alone. Although Bradley Beal would have been capable of aiding this process, his run at Phoenix has not yielded positive results. In light of this, the Suns' decision to look in another direction would be wise. The addition of Devin Vassel and Harrison Barnes would prove to be helpful in this case. Vassell has shown quite a lot of growth over the past season. Although he saw a reduction in minutes, he remained one of the Spurs' most impressive prospects. At 24 years old, Vassell recorded an average of 16.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. Although he was playing a secondary role, his shooting splits of 44.3% from the field and 36.8% from the three-point line could be very promising. Advertisement Meanwhile, the acquisition of Barnes is also quite valuable. The 33-year-old is coming off a solid season in San Antonio, averaging 12.3 points and 3.8 rebounds on 50.8% shooting from the field and 43.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Barnes' veteran presence would be a favorable sight on a relatively depleted Suns roster. His skill as a two-way player would also be of some use when Phoenix is facing up against teams in a very competitive Western Conference. On the flip side, Barnes is also an expiring contract. After a $19.0 million cap hit this season, Phoenix will free up ample cap space to continue its roster construction project. Aside from the rotation players, the Suns will also be adding a very important draft pick to their list of assets. As projected, the Spurs were expected to select Carter Bryant from Arizona. While this may not necessarily align with Phoenix's requirements, the Suns will enjoy a lot of flexibility with building a competitive roster through the draft. Benefits Across The Board Overall, the trade has its benefits for both teams. The Suns put themselves in a solid position to restructure their team and recalibrate. Advertisement As per our alternate trade package, they would also acquire a key defensive player in Jeremy Sochan, along with more draft capital in the form of the 2027 and 2029 first-round picks. This would put the team in a stable position to structure their roster development plans over the next four years. Meanwhile, the Spurs receive an elite veteran scorer, who is very capable of transforming them into a title-contender. The key concern for San Antonio will be how well their ideals align with Durant. Considering that the forward has a short title window, the Spurs will need to be in a "win-now" mindset if they wish to see the best version of him. Bill Simmons Hints Kevin Durant's San Antonio Move Might Already Be Finalized In Secret
Bill Simmons Hints Kevin Durant's San Antonio Move Might Already Be Finalized In Secret originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The NBA offseason has barely begun, but the smoke around Kevin Durant's next destination is already becoming impossible to ignore. Now, it's Bill Simmons fanning the flames and dropping what could be the biggest bombshell of the summer. Advertisement On a recent episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast, the veteran NBA analyst revealed he wouldn't be surprised if a trade between the Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs involving Kevin Durant is already completed behind the scenes. According to Simmons: 'I wouldn't be surprised if KD to the Spurs is done already and they just haven't announced it. Basically, they've agreed on specifics, just announce it on the week of the draft." "This goes back to the Giannis thing. I think they trade for KD because it just costs less. They'll be able to be real competitive and maybe go a couple of rounds in the playoffs, but they're also going to keep the No. 2 pick and do it that way, which is my prediction.' While Simmons emphasized he has no official 'inside info,' this lines up with recent reporting from NBA insiders who have linked Durant to the Spurs for weeks. The Suns' asking price for Durant, once astronomical, has reportedly dropped significantly, especially since many teams now view Durant as a one-year rental. Advertisement The 36-year-old is entering the final season of his $54.7 million contract in 2025–26, and several teams are reportedly fine acquiring him without a long-term extension in place. San Antonio, however, offers the ideal mix of youth, cap space, draft capital, and a generational centerpiece in Victor Wembanyama. Durant has privately expressed interest in playing with Wembanyama, and per John Gambadoro, someone close to Durant recently discussed the Spurs as a serious landing spot. It's believed there's 'mutual interest' between Durant and the Spurs to form a new Western Conference power. A potential Spurs package for Durant would not include the No. 2 pick, which they intend to use to select a star backcourt partner for Wembanyama, but may feature the No. 14 pick and two key rotation players such as Keldon Johnson and Tre Jones. Advertisement That would allow the Spurs to acquire Durant while still building around a young core of Wembanyama, De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle (their projected No. 2 pick), Devin Vassell, and Jeremy Sochan. For Phoenix, shedding Durant would signify a hard reset after the Durant-Booker-Beal trio failed to yield playoff success. With new head coach Jordan Ott at the helm, the Suns may prefer to retool around Booker with more depth and flexibility rather than another top-heavy, injury-prone roster. With the NBA Draft just weeks away, all eyes are now on San Antonio. If Simmons is right and history suggests he often is when it comes to seismic NBA shifts, then Kevin Durant might already be a Spur in everything but name. The official announcement may simply be a matter of timing. And if that's the case, the Wemby-KD era could be the next superteam rising in the West.
