ESPN's 'College GameDay' heading to Texas vs. Ohio State for Lee Corso's final show

Lee Corso's final 'College GameDay' will be in Columbus, Ohio.
ESPN announced Tuesday that its pregame show would head to Ohio State's Week 1 matchup with Texas. The network said earlier this year that Corso, 89, would do one final show before retiring after nearly 40 years with the network.
The popularity of 'GameDay' exploded as the pregame show started going from campus to campus in 1993. And Corso first wore a mascot head to make a prediction in October of 1996 when he wore the head of Brutus the Buckeye to pick Ohio State over Penn State.

From there, Corso's picks got more and more elaborate and became the climax of 'GameDay' right as the show ended before the network's first football game of the day.
The choice of Ohio State's game with Texas for the first 'GameDay' of the season isn't much of a surprise even though Fox has the TV rights to the game. The College Football Playoff rematch is the marquee game of the opening weekend after the Buckeyes beat the Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl playoff semifinal on the way to the national title. The game will also be the first Week 1 start for Texas QB Arch Manning as he takes over as the Longhorns' starter in his third season.
If 'GameDay' didn't go to Columbus, the obvious alternative would have been a trip to Tallahassee. Corso played football at Florida State — he was roommates with legendary actor Burt Reynolds — and the Seminoles host Alabama in Week 1.

Mercury beat the Wings 93-80 to spoil Paige Bueckers' 35-point performance

PHOENIX (AP) — Satou Sabally had 20 points and 10 rebounds against her former team, Alyssa Thomas added 11 points and 10 assists, and the Phoenix Mercury beat the Dallas Wings 93-80 on Wednesday night to spoil Paige Bueckers' 35-point performance. Bueckers, who returned after missing four games due to concussion protocol and an illness, made her first six shots of the game and finished 13 of 19. She became the fourth rookie in Dallas history to score 30-plus points in a single game, with Arike Ogunbowale the last to do it in 2019. But the rest of the Wings combined to go 16 of 48 (33%) from the field. Kitija Laksa had 14 points and four 3-pointers for Phoenix (7-4). Kathryn Westbeld scored all 11 of her points in the first half and Lexi Held also finished with 11 points. DiJonai Carrington added 11 points and eight rebounds for Dallas (1-10). Ogunbowale was just 2-of-10 shooting for 10 points. Bueckers went 8 of 10 from the field in the first half, with three 3-pointers and three free throws, to score 22 of Dallas' 36 points. Her 35 points topped her previous career high of 21 for an entire game. Sabally scored 10 of her points in the third quarter as the Mercury led 67-57. ___ AP WNBA:
