Elon Musk- Donald Trump Feud Live Updates: 'Elon Musk could face 'serious consequences' if he backs Democratic candidates ,' says Trump

Time of India5 hours ago

US President Donald Trump on Saturday warned Elon Musk of 'serious consequences' if the billionaire backs efforts to unseat Republicans who support a controversial government spending bill. The sharp remarks, made to NBC News, followed a dramatic and very public unravelling of their once-close relationship.
The fallout began after Musk, formerly one of the GOP's biggest donors, fiercely criticized Trump's proposed 'big, beautiful' spending package currently under debate in Congress. Some conservative lawmakers opposed to the bill urged Musk to fund primary challenges against Republican legislators who back the legislation.
In response, Trump lashed out: 'He'll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that,' calling Musk 'disrespectful' and ruling out any future reconciliation. 'I have no intention of speaking to him,' the president added.
The split comes just days after Trump had praised Musk for his work at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), from which he recently stepped down. But tensions escalated rapidly when Musk slammed the spending bill as an 'abomination,' prompting an angry reaction from Trump during an Oval Office outburst.
Although both appeared to soften their tone slightly on Friday—Trump saying 'I just wish him well,' and Musk replying 'Likewise' on X—the damage appears far from repaired.
Adding fuel to the fire, Musk had earlier made a now-deleted post alleging Trump appeared in unreleased government documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The explosive claim was scrubbed from Musk's account before Trump's latest interview.
While Trump has been named in unsealed court documents tied to the Epstein case, there are no allegations of wrongdoing against him. The White House has confirmed an ongoing review of thousands of files connected to Epstein, which Trump's MAGA supporters claim will reveal names of powerful figures involved in the scandal.

Trump's travel ban shuts door for Afghan family to bring niece to US for better life

Thousands of refugees came from Afghanistan Afghanistan was also one of the largest sources of resettled refugees, with about 14,000 arrivals in a 12-month period through September 2024. Trump suspended refugee resettlement on his first day in office. It is a path Sharafoddin took with his wife and son out of Afghanistan walking on those mountain roads in the dark then through Pakistan, Iran and into Turkey. He worked in a factory for years in Turkey, listening to YouTube videos on headphones to learn English before he was resettled in Irmo, South Carolina, a suburb of Columbia. His son is now 11, and he and his wife had a daughter in the US who is now 3. There is a job at a jewelry maker that allows him to afford a two-story, three-bedroom house. Food was laid out on two tables Saturday for a celebration of the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday. Sharafoddin's wife, Nuriya, said she is learning English and driving — two things she couldn't do in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. 'I'm very happy to be here now, because my son is very good at school and my daughter also. I think after 18 years they are going to work, and my daughter is going to be able to go to college,' she said. Family wants to help a niece It is a life she wanted for her niece too. The couple show videos from their cellphones of her drawing and painting. When the Taliban returned to power in 2021, their niece could no longer study. So they started to plan to get her to the U.S. at least to further her education. Nuriya Sharafoddin doesn't know if her niece has heard the news from America yet. She hasn't had the heart to call and tell her. 'I'm not ready to call her. This is not good news. This is very sad news because she is worried and wants to come,' Nuriya Sharafoddin said. While the couple spoke, Jim Ray came by. He has helped a number of refugee families settle in Columbia and helped the Sharafoddins navigate questions in their second language. Ray said Afghans in Columbia know the return of the Taliban changed how the U.S. deals with their native country. But while the ban allows spouses, children or parents to travel to America, other family members aren't included. Many Afghans know their extended families are starving or suffering, and suddenly a path to help is closed, Ray said. 'We'll have to wait and see how the travel ban and the specifics of it actually play out,' Ray said. 'This kind of thing that they're experiencing where family cannot be reunited is actually where it hurts the most.' Taliban criticizes travel ban The Taliban have criticized Trump for the ban, with their top leader Hibatullah Akhundzada saying the US was now the oppressor of the world. 'Citizens from 12 countries are barred from entering their land — and Afghans are not allowed either,' he said on a recording shared on social media. 'Why? Because they claim the Afghan government has no control over its people and that people are leaving the country. So, oppressor! Is this what you call friendship with humanity?'

Telangana suffered due to BRS greed for commissions: Uttam

HYDERABAD: Telangana has suffered a permanent loss in the irrigation sector due to the 'wrong decisions' taken by the previous BRS government and its 'greed for commissions', alleged Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy. In a press statement issued on Saturday, Uttam countered the claims made by BRS MLA and former irrigation minister T Harish Rao while making a PowerPoint presentation on Kaleshwaram earlier in the day. Uttam said that only 162 tmcft water was lifted from Godavari from Kaleshwaram in five years. The BRS termed Medigadda as the 'heart' of Kaleshwaram and though its construction was completed in 2019, officials lifted only 61 tmcft in 2019–20, 31.82 tmcft in 2020–21, 33 tmcft in 2021–22, 25.97 tmcft in 2022–23 and 8.93 tmcft in 2023–24, a total of 162 tmcft, he said. During the flood season in these five years, around 63 tmcft water went waste into the sea. How was the BRS government able to provide irrigation to 22 lakh acres with just 99 tmcft, he wondered. 'In July, 2022 the Annaram pump house was submerged in water. In the same year, all the motors of the Kannepalli (Medigadda) pump house were damaged. In that year, officials could lift only 25 tmcft,' Uttam said and recalled that the piers of Medigadda sank on October 21, 2023. While Farakka barrage was constructed with a rock foundation to divert Ganga waters, three barrages in Kaleshwaram were constructed to divert funds, he alleged. The minister recalled that a huge rally with elephants was taken out during the BRS regime after the KCR government signed an agreement with Maharashtra to construct a barrage at Tummidihetti. However, it was later shifted to Medigadda as they thought they could not get money if Tummidihetti barrage was constructed, he added. Uttam also informed Harish that Sriramsagar, Yellampali, Lower Manair, Upper Manair and Singur projects were constructed by previous Congress governments. 'The Congress government spent Rs 6,156 crore on Pranahitha-Chevella project before the formation of the state. Till 2016, the total amount spent on Pranahitha-Chevella was Rs 11,679 crore,' he said.

BJP behind Eatala's ‘change of heart', says govt whip

HYDERABAD: Congress MLA and government whip Aadi Srinivas on Saturday expressed his disappointment over former minister Eatala Rajender's 'failure to expose' alleged corruption in the execution of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). Addressing the media at the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) office, he said that contrary to expectations, Rajender did not reveal BRS president and former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's involvement in the alleged scam while deposing before the PC Ghose Commission of Inquiry on Kaleshwaram. Srinivas alleged that the BRS and BJP were working hand in glove and said that was evident from Rajender's testimony before the Commission. The Congress MLA tried to highlight how Union minister and state BJP chief G Kishan Reddy had also previously asserted that Rajender would reveal crucial details about KLIS to the Commission. He pointed out that prominent BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, had described Kaleshwaram as an 'ATM' for KCR's family and demanded an inquiry into the project. Srinivas also recalled Rajender's earlier statements, in which he labelled KCR as the 'whole and sole' of the Kaleshwaram project and called for the then CM's resignation. He alleged that the BJP was behind Rajender's change of heart and his current contradictory stance on Kaleshwaram.
