Malaysian senior citizen killed in road accident in Narathiwat, Thailand
NARATHIWAT (Thailand): (Bernama) A Malaysian senior citizen died after the vehicle he was driving skidded into a ditch in an accident along the Narathiwat-Pattani Highway near Yi Ngo District in Thailand's southern province on Thursday (June 5) afternoon.
Yi Ngo District Police Chief, Naravi Binwaearong, said his department received a report of the accident at 3pm local time.
"Police officers who arrived at the scene found that the victim had been taken to Yi Ngo Hospital and was confirmed dead a few hours after the accident,' he said when contacted today (Thursday).
He said the victim, aged 68, was from Pasir Mas, Kelantan, and had been driving alone at the time of the incident.
Preliminary investigations found that the accident was caused by a burst tyre on the four-wheel drive vehicle the victim was driving.

BANGKOK: Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has discussed the Thai-Cambodia border situation with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a phone call on Friday, where Anwar expressed readiness to assist both sides in resolving the dispute. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai, Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa, Supreme Commander General Songwit Noonpakdee, National Security Council Chief Chatchai Bangchuad, and the military's commanders-in-chief. On May 28, Thai and Cambodian troops engaged in a brief gunfight in Thailand's north-eastern Ubon Ratchathani province and Cambodia's northern Preah Vihear province, where one Cambodian soldier was reportedly killed. Cambodia has since announced its intention to bring the border dispute to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Meanwhile, both countries have agreed to discuss the issue through the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC), which is set to meet in Phnom Penh on June 14.– BERNAMA

Policeman killed in motorcycle accident on NSE near Kuala Kangsar
IPOH: A policeman has been killed while on his way home to Kedah after the motorcycle he was riding skidded at KM253.7 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) northbound near Kuala Kangsar. Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said in the 7.24pm incident on Thursday (June 5), the victim Shamsul Ishak, 58, sustained injuries to his left rib area. "Further investigations found that the victim lost control (of his motorcycle), skidded and crashed into a metal road divider. "The victim, who was severely injured, was taken to the Taiping Hospital for further treatment. "However, he was pronounced dead at 9.24pm," he said. He added the victim was on holiday and making his way home to Alor Setar, Kedah. He added that further investigations are still ongoing and the case is now being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – Bernama

Engineer loses over RM1.5mil to online investment scam
BUKIT MERTAJAM: An engineer working in the Middle East lost over RM1.5mil to an online investment scam recently. Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said the victim, 40, lodged a report with the Central Seberang Perai district police headquarters commercial crimes investigation division yesterday. "In November last year the man got to know a woman through the phone and had a relationship before the woman invited him to join an investment scheme called GoldenCrimson that offered handsome returns. "The man was interested to invest and was given a customer service number and a website link to register, and he invested RM90,510 and received returns of RM108,611," he said in a statement on Friday (June 6) night. The man grew confident in the scheme and made 103 transactions to 31 different accounts totalling RM1,532,563 from Dec 2 to March 8, and realised he was scammed when he failed to withdraw RM4,131,671 through the app but was asked instead to provide additional capital to be able to withdraw his profits. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. - Bernama
