Chris Kamara's sadness as 'only five turn up' to Soccer Saturday reunion dinner

Daily Mirror5 hours ago

Many football fans still miss the old Sky Sports Soccer Saturday line-up, including Chris Kamara, who often tries to organise a get-together with his former colleagues
Beloved football pundit Chris Kamara was left disappointed after only five people turned up to his Soccer Saturday reunion. Kamara, 67, was one of the most popular pundits over the course of his 24 years on the show.
The former Sheffield United and Luton Town player provided all sorts of funny memories for the millions of people who tuned in. Three years on from walking away from the show, Kamara uploaded a photograph from their reunion.

In April last year, Kamara arranged another Soccer Saturday get together which was attended by Alan McInally, Tony Cottee, Jeff Stelling, Phil Thompson and a Sky Sports producer.

The Middlesbrough born pundit uploaded a picture of the 2025 reunion onto his social media pages. The producer was there again, as was Shreeves, Charlie Nicholas and Bianca Westwood.
Former Soccer Saturday pundits Thompson, Cottee, McInally, Paul Merson and Matt Le Tissier were nowhere to be seen on the day. It's likely that they had their reasons for not being able to attend.
Nevertheless, Kamara appeared to be disappointed with the turnout. Alongside the picture he posted, he wrote: "Soccer Saturday reunion dinner. Only five turned up. But still a fabulous night. Condo (producer), Champagne Charlie, Bianca and, of course, Unbelievable Jeff Stelling.'
He also added a crying face emoji to his post, suggesting he was rather sad with the low numbers. It's been close to five years since Sky shook up Soccer Saturday by overhauling their pundits.
Before the 2020/21 football season, Thompson, Nicholas and Le Tissier were sacked by the programme. Stelling, Camara and Merson were retained by the show, while the likes of Adebayo Akinfenwa, Tim Sherwood, Robbie Fowler and Joleon Lescott were brought in as replacements.

Kamara left the show in 2022 after being diagnosed with speech apraxia. While he did not return to Soccer Saturday, he did make a return to live football television on Boxing Day.
He appeared on Amazon Prime's live Premier League coverage, where he was reunited with Stelling, who stepped down from his position at Sky Sports in 2023 after 25 years.

In an interview with the Express, Kamara opened up about the sadness he felt when he walked away from Sky as a result of his condition, which slows down speech and thought processes.
He said: "After 20 plus years of being the first ever in-vision reporter at a live football match, it was with sadness when I realised that I was no longer able to do what I had always taken for granted - just be me.
"At that time, I could hardly talk, wasn't able to remember the players names and was slurring my words. I knew then that I had to get help.'

'We must give Andrews a chance' - fans on new Bees boss

We asked for your views on the appointment of Keith Andrews as Brentford's new head are some of your comments:Alan: A supporter since 1960 and sceptical for much of that time, but I have total faith in the current management structure and ability - so I back this totally. If it doesn't work out they'll have a plan to Let's all get behind Andrews' new management team. It will be interesting if there are any other internal promotions from the coaching staff. As always, keep the faith and roll on season We must give Andrews a chance to show what he can do as the number one. We talk about the great job Thomas Frank did but, honestly, how many people knew anything about him when he joined Brentford and then became head coach? The management at Brentford know what the club needs and requires, and if Andrews fits the bill, who are we to say no?Gary: Gutted. Total lack of ambition from the club.J: Change is a risk, and so is not changing. I can't think of any owner or directors of a football club better placed to exploit risk than Brentford's. I am very excited about this season coming. I will miss Frank, Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard, but there is some incredible talent in our squad, which is designed for the next three to five years. Just watch!Stephen: Do you honestly think Matthew Benham and Phil Giles would take a punt on Premier League survival by appointing Andrews? The answer is crystal clear. It is now about Keith's relationship with the players and how he can keep the motivation and momentum high after Frank's successful seven-year reign. The have all worked with Andrews for a year. He has seen what works and doesn't work. It is too early to judge.

Leeds apologise after fans blocked from Germany games

Leeds have apologised "unreservedly" after German authorities said their fans are unable to attend pre-season matches in the Whites will travel to Germany for an eight-day training camp as they prepare for their return to the Premier Farke's side made a similar trip last summer and were asked by police and local authorities not to bring supporters because of the resources needed to host Euro say they had "written assurances" from the German Football Association and their tour operator that fans could attend this year, but have now been told they cannot."Frustratingly, despite having matches agreed for a number of months, we have in the last week been informed that the police and local authorities will once again not grant a permit for us to play matches in front of spectators, will prohibit us from providing live updates and video streams, and have requested we discourage supporter travel," Leeds said in a statement."This comes despite multiple attempts to find a solution including offering various assurances, pursuing alternative scenarios that would allow for fan attendance, and even evaluating moving camp to a different location on short notice. "Unfortunately, those efforts were fruitless due to the last-second nature of our change in circumstances.
