Real Madrid Yet To Contact 21-Goal Striker With Bargain Release Clause
Ante Budimir scored 21 goals in La Liga this season.
While Real Madrid is busy in action at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, the club continues to prepare for the 2025/26 campaign under new coach Xabi Alonso, and one of the additions that the sporting management could look to make to the roster looks likely to be in attack.
Earlier this summer, El Chiringuito claimed that Osasuna forward Ante Budimir is one of five options being considered by Real Madrid, who are looking to add strength in depth in the final third. The departure of veteran Joselu meant that superstar Kylian Mbappé was virtually the only natural center-forward in the squad during his debut season.
Budimir is thought to appeal, in part due to a low-cost release clause which is available for part of the summer transfer window, but Los Blancos have not consolidated their interest as of yet. 'There have been questions about Budimir, obviously,' the club's sporting director Braulio Vázquez told Cadena SER, 'but Real Madrid has not called'.
What is Ante Budimir's release clause?
According to the report from Cadena SER, Budimir's usual release clause of €20 million ($23.3 million) is reduced to only €8 million ($9.32 million) for European-based clubs during a part of the summer transfer window.
At 33 years of age, Budimir is not a young target who would offer much resale value, but he does have a proven track record in Spain, with 78 goals in 204 games for Mallorca and Osasuna since moving to the Iberian peninsula from Italian side Crotone in early 2019.
The Croatian made his debut for his national team a year after moving to Spain, in 2020, and has scored six goals in 32 appearances alongside his international side's captain, Real Madrid legend Luka Modrić.
In 2024/25, only Kylian Mbappé and Robert Lewandowski, of FC Barcelona, scored more goals than Budimir, who recorded 21 goals in La Liga, 10 fewer than Mbappé and six fewer than Lewandowski.
He was also ever-present for Osasuna, who narrowly missed out on qualification for European competition, as he played a part in all 38 league matches, starting 34 of them.
Real Madrid's plans may have been altered somewhat by the selection choices of new coach Xabi Alonso, who has opted to give ample game time to 21-year-old attacked Gonzalo García as a striker in his first two matches.
Alonso started him in the absence of Kylian Mbappé, who has suffered with illness while in the United States, and rewarded the youngster for his goal against Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal by keeping his place against Mexican side Pachuca.
'He's a striker who can be a reference point,' Alonso said as he reflected on García, who may provide a homegrown solution to the lack of options available to the new coach in his squad.
García made only four first-team appearances before the Club World Cup this season, scoring a late winner against Leganés in the Copa del Rey, but did score an impressive return of 25 goals in 36 games while playing for Raúl González's Castilla side, Real Madrid's second string, in the third tier of Spanish soccer, Primera RFEF.

Timberwolves' Massive Offer For Kevin Durant Revealed; Looks Better Than Rockets' Package
Timberwolves' Massive Offer For Kevin Durant Revealed; Looks Better Than Rockets' Package originally appeared on Fadeaway World. The Kevin Durant trade saga finally ended on Sunday, with the Phoenix Suns sending him to the Houston Rockets. The Suns didn't get a good haul in return for Durant, and it appears there was once a far better offer on the table. Suns insider John Gambadoro revealed the Minnesota Timberwolves' package on The Kevin O'Connor Show. Advertisement "This is what I believe the offer to be," Gambadoro said. "How much changed on Durant not wanting to go there, that we're not 100% sure on. But I believe Minnesota would have been Rudy Gobert, Donte DiVincenzo, one of the young players, either [Terrence] Shannon [Jr.] or [Rob] Dillingham, and then their first-round pick." The Rockets, meanwhile, only gave up Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th pick in this 2025 NBA Draft, and five second-round picks. The Timberwolves' package was clearly better, but he had no interest in going to Minnesota. Gambadoro isn't sure if this offer was still on the table once the 36-year-old's lack of interest became evident. "I think that was a good offer [from the Timberwolves], but I think KD probably, like the Golden State deal, sent through back channels that, 'I'll go there but there's no guarantee that I'm going to re-sign with you,'" Gambadoro stated. "Now, whether Minnesota was willing to do that deal without a guarantee from KD or not, I'm not sure." Durant had, of course, shut down a blockbuster trade that would have sent him to the Golden State Warriors at this year's deadline in February. Now, NBA players normally don't get much say in trades, but the 15-time All-Star had some leverage. Advertisement Durant is entering the final year of his four-year, $194-million deal in 2025-26, and a team would need assurances that he would re-sign with them before a trade. It wouldn't be surprising if the Timberwolves took this massive offer off the table once they realized that he could leave for free in a year. The Timberwolves weren't the only team that appeared to have presented a better offer than the Rockets. Kevin O'Connor reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers' offer for Durant included Darius Garland. Just like with the Timberwolves, you'd imagine that Durant would have sent messages about not wanting to go to the Cavaliers. It would have made little sense otherwise for the Suns to turn down the opportunity to acquire Garland, who would have solved their point guard woes. The Suns also tried to trade Durant to the Miami Heat, but the asking price of Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jovic, Haywood Highsmith, the No. 20 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, and additional draft capital was not met. They were ultimately forced to settle for that underwhelming haul from the Rockets. Advertisement Having to give up such a laughable haul for a player of Durant's caliber means the Rockets, who were the second seed in the West with a 52-30 record in 2024-25, will be serious title contenders next season. Their new superstar is already at work, too, with a clip of him working out at a gym going viral. Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game in 2024-25. He is the kind of elite scorer that the Rockets desperately needed, and it will be interesting to see how far he can take this group. Brandon Aiyuk Trade Opportunity Gone As 49ers Deal With Major Oddity
Brandon Aiyuk Trade Opportunity Gone As 49ers Deal With Major Oddity originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Brandon Aiyuk was picked by the San Francisco 49ers No. 25 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. After being a solid contributor right away, Aiyuk burst into a major role as a primary target in his third and fourth years in the league, the latter being an All-Pro campaign with over 1,300 receiving yards. Advertisement But ever since the end of that season when San Francisco lost in the Super Bowl, Aiyuk has been an oddity in the 49ers' organization. Last offseason was plagued with his contract holdout that stretched deep into preseason play. General manager John Lynch flirted with trade partners during that time but eventually signed him to a heavy four-year, $120 million extension just before the season started. Then? Things got worse. Aiyuk tore his ACL halfway through the year. Amidst his recovery this offseason, the oddness has lingered. You can bank on a weekly occurrence of Aiyuk posting or saying something that reasserts his disgruntled attitude toward the 49ers' organization. He felt disrespected last offseason, and the grudge hasn't gone anywhere since. Advertisement The front office can't do much else but think that a trade may be the only option left that is mutually beneficial. San Fran can unload his contract because they won't be getting the leadership payout they imagined, and Aiyuk will get what he wants in a relocation to move on. Niners Nation is split on this saga, with Aiyuk showing the ability to be a capable No. 1 option receiver when he's on the field, but his attitude and now health being a poison to those fruits. Lynch has maintained the belief that there is "no regret" in signing the receiver to last offseason's contract. "We love Brandon Aiyuk as a football player," the GM has said. But when he's not able to play football? It's hard to imagine the situation without any tension and angst. Aiyuk isn't helping his cause in making it look like the two sides have made up from their pasts, either. Advertisement Aiyuk will get healthy - coincidentally or fatefully - right around the mid-season trade deadline. That would be when his trade value will have peaked. It also raises the largest question of them all... Has Brandon Aiyuk played his final game in a 49ers uniform? 49ers McCaffrey Update Boosts Confidence for Impactful Return
49ers McCaffrey Update Boosts Confidence for Impactful Return originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Just one year after enjoying the most memorable season of his career, Christian McCaffrey suffered perhaps his most forgetful. Advertisement The San Francisco 49ers star running back appeared in just four games in the middle of the 2024 season due to Achilles and knee injuries. In 2023, he powered the Niners' to a conference championship as the Offensive Player of the Year with over 2,000 yards from scrimmage. After a long offseason of recovery, many around the 49ers organization believe "CMC" is back to full strength, threatening a return to team contention after last year's 6-11 season with him on the sideline for most of it. 49ers beat writer Matt Barrows of The Athletic has chimed in with the latest update, it being another quote that is sweet music to the ears of Niners Nation. "Christian McCaffrey is healthy again," Barrows reported in his notebook of takeaways from spring workouts. "Following a 2024 season marred by Achilles and knee issues, McCaffrey said his goal this spring was to be available for all of the 49ers' OTA and minicamp sessions." Advertisement Barrows added: "And while he didn't look quite like he did in the spring of 2023 ... he didn't have to sit out any sessions. That was a boost of confidence for the running back, who said he'll be back to training as usual during the summer break, and to a 49ers offense that missed McCaffrey last season, especially in the red zone." To the man himself, this isn't a surprise. He has always stated his mission of being a full participant in minicamp and the upcoming training camp. McCaffrey - an unfortunately frequent visitor of the rehabilitation department throughout his career - acknowledged that he's learned how to recovery and had to "start from scratch" in order to return to optimal health. With an offense that surrounds him with multiple weapons, McCaffrey may not need to return to an MVP-caliber level, but of course, Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers will take the best that he has to offer. Advertisement That seems not just possible, but probable, thanks to another optimistic report.
