Dnata breaks new ground: Over 1mln tonnes of cargo handled in Dubai in a single year
Dubai, UAE – dnata, a leading global air and travel services provider, has reached a significant milestone, handling over 1 million tonnes of cargo in Dubai between April 2024 and March 2025 – the highest volume ever processed by the company in a 12-month period.
The record reflects a 30% year-on-year increase, driven by strong demand for dnata's reliable, high-quality services. Operating from advanced facilities at both Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum - Dubai World Central (DWC) airports, dnata currently serves more than 120 airline customers, safely managing a broad range of cargo, including perishables, pharmaceuticals, dangerous goods, live animals, aircraft engines and vehicles.
Guillaume Crozier, dnata's Chief Cargo Officer, said: 'We are incredibly proud to reach this milestone in Dubai, the birthplace of dnata and our largest cargo station. Investing in technology and sustainability
dnata provides end-to-end cargo handling services with a team of over 2,000 professionals at Dubai's two airports. Its recent investments include the rollout of OneCargo, its digital cargo management system. OneCargo automates key business and operational functions, including safety and quality monitoring, reporting and ULD management, with an integrated, cloud-based platform. AI-driven tools and analytics provide enhanced visibility on sales and business performance, allowing customers to match real-time demand with available capacity for maximum profitability. In addition, OneCargo eliminates all redundancies and manual check sheets.
Further innovation highlights include the successful integration of autonomous drones into dnata's operations, which significantly reduced processing times and increased accuracy in shipment tracking.
dnata also consistently takes initiatives to enhance environmental efficiency across its operations. Most recently, it transitioned its entire non-electric ground support equipment (GSE) fleet to run on biodiesel in Dubai. The company also actively works to repurpose and recycle materials, including cargo pallets and nets, supporting broader efforts to drive circularity and reduce environmental impact across the industry.

The figures reflect the emirate's position as a global transit and residence hub. Major General Talal Al-Shanqeeti, assistant DG of the Air Ports Sector, affirmed that the figures recorded during the Eid holiday reflect Dubai's steadily growing position as a preferred travel hub for passengers from around the world — thanks to the seamless coordination on the ground and the activation of smart systems across all entry points. 'We have made it a priority to ensure a seamless travel experience through smart gates and artificial intelligence technologies, which have contributed to speeding up procedures and improving the flow of movement.' He also emphasised that the travel experience has become part of our commitment to enhancing quality of life, in line with the Dubai government's approach to providing flexible services that meet individuals' expectations and enhance the readiness of its institutions. Here's a breakdown of the movement and what it says about Dubai's travel readiness: Total travellers during Eid: Between June 5 and June 8, 629,559 passengers arrived or departed through Dubai's air, land, and sea ports. Dubai International Airport led the traffic: 581,527 travellers passed through Hatta border crossing also saw high activity: 46,863 travellers crossed via the Hatta land port during the holiday period. Maritime ports handled modest traffic: 1,169 travellers entered or exited through Dubai's seaports. The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) credited strategic coordination across the aviation and border sectors for managing the high volume with efficiency.

Indian expat Haji N Jamaluddin arrived in Dubai from Mumbai by ship on February 26, 1965. Sixty years after his original arrival, the veteran educator and founder of Crescent English High School was officially welcomed into Dubai. He received a special immigration stamp from Dubai Airports to commemorate 60 years since his arrival in the UAE, making up for the one he never received when he first set foot in the city. With no port and the city just taking shape in the 1960s, Haji N Jamaluddin never got a stamp on his passport, which usually documents entry and exit dates in the country. Six decades later, his son wanted to mark the occasion by giving his father a new Dubai entry stamp. In a heartwarming gesture that reflects the spirit of the UAE's Year of Community, Dubai Airports helped make the son's simple wish for his father come true. "This new entry stamp isn't just a mark in a passport, it's a tribute to everything Dubai has given us," said Jamaluddin. His philosophy is simple: 'Money is not everything. Education is the best weapon for enlightenment.' Jamaluddin credits much of his passion to the leadership of the UAE, especially the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, whom he saw regularly visiting worksites in the early morning hours. 'He was always among the people and now Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum is continuing that legacy. It's what makes Dubai what it is today.'
