OPFOB campaign brings awareness to veteran suicide, seeks volunteers
RIDGELAND, S.C. (WSAV) — The Light The Fire campaign is a visual reminder that many veterans aren't out of danger when they leave the battlefield.
Spearheaded by OPFOB, a military support charity in Ridgeland, S.C., the 22-day event casts a spotlight on the 22 veterans and active-duty military lost to suicide every day.
Light The Fire starts every year 22 days before Memorial Day. That is when a fire is lit on the OPFOB campus and manned 24 hours a day in honor of the men and women lost to suicide.
