Shanghai Port to face Yokohama F Marinos in Asian Champions League's last 16
Feb 20 (Reuters) - Shanghai Port will face Yokohama F Marinos in the round of 16 of the Asian Champions League Elite next month as the Chinese Super League side's qualification for the knockout rounds was confirmed by the Asian Football Confederation on Thursday.
Port lost 2-0 in their final league phase match to the Japanese club on Wednesday in Shanghai but have progressed as a result of the withdrawal of compatriots Shandong Taishan.
Shanghai's place in the next round was ratified by the AFC's publication of the official fixture list for the last 16.
Marinos, who topped the 12-team east Asian league standings, will travel to face Port in the first leg on March 4. Thailand's Buriram United will host Johor Darul Ta'zim of Malaysia on the same day with the return fixtures played a week later.
Shanghai Shenhua will entertain Japan's Kawasaki Frontale and reigning J-League champions Vissel Kobe will host South Korea's Gwangju FC in their first leg fixtures on March 5, with the second legs on March 12.
The winners of the four ties will advance to the quarter-finals, where they will join the four qualifiers from the west of the confederation in a centralised finals in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia from April 25 to May 3.
On that side of the draw, Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr will take on Esteghlal from Iran while Al-Sadd from Qatar meet Al-Wasl of the United Arab Emirates on March 3 and 10.
Four-times champions Al-Hilal face Uzbekistan's Pakhtakor while their fellow Saudis Al-Ahli play Qatar's Al-Rayyan on March 4 and 11.
Shandong pulled out of Wednesday's meeting with South Korea's Ulsan HD citing health issues and the withdrawal saw their results expunged from the tournament records.
Under the tournament's regulations, Shandong face a minimum $50,000 fine, a suspension of at least one season from AFC competitions plus the return of all subsidies received.
The club could also be made to pay compensation to cover losses incurred by rival clubs and commercial entities with a decision due to be made by the AFC's disciplinary and ethics committee.

Michael Duffy feeling refreshed and revitalised to renew Derry City's title push
The Candystripes resume against Galway United at the Brandywell on Friday night, with Duffy and his team-mates aware that they have a mountain to climb if they are to catch or stay in touch with leaders Shamrock Rovers. Nine points separate the two rivals following back-to-back reverses for Tiernan Lynch's men, a double setback which has stopped City's momentum in its tracks after a run of five wins in six games. Duffy, who is City's top scorer with six League goals, has also failed to find the net in any of his last five games but he is hoping the break will help him get back to his previous levels. 'It's not great ending on a loss before you go away on your break because you can't put it right for another two weeks and it plays on your mind, but I think the break was needed too,' he said. 'You play a lot of games in the first three months of the season and there's loads of ups and downs and sometimes you just need that break to reset and get that time away from football, and we all enjoyed it, but we're back in this week and it's been a good week's training so far and we're looking forward to Friday and getting back to winning ways is the main thing. 'The last few games haven't really been good enough and obviously I want to put that right as soon as I can. Every week I want to be scoring or setting up goals or at least playing well, and I don't think that I have done that in the last few games, so I can't wait for Friday so I can personally go and try and put my own performances right and help us get back to winning ways.' Last season, Derry took just two points from four games against Galway, but they have already doubled that in 2025; a 1-1 draw at the Brandywell in March followed by a memorable 3-2 win at Eamon Deacy Park in April. That victory in Galway was the spark for City's best form of the season, winning five out of six League games. 'We know how tough it's going to be, but the two times we've played against them, we've done really well,' he said. 'Down in Galway, we had a massive win, and it turned our season a wee bit because we went on a bit of a run. We were brilliant that night so we can look at the games we've played, because we stopped their threats, we affected them the whole game and we'll be looking to do the same again.'

Satono Reve settling in well as Royal Ascot support continues
The sprinter is in the care of Noriyuki Hori, who is a leading handler in his homeland and will have his first runner at the Royal meeting when his six-year-old lines up in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes in the hands of top international jockey Joao Moreira. Satono Reve had the assistance of Ryan Moore as he underwent his final preparations for his Ascot assignment on Newmarket's July course on Wednesday morning, with Hori happy with how his contender has settled into his temporary surroundings in British racing's heartland. 'After arriving from Hong Kong, Satono Reve had some time to recover before steadily building up his training,' said Hori. 'We completed his final gallop before the race – a five-furlong piece on the July course at Newmarket, ridden by Ryan Moore. 'Although it's a different environment from what he's used to, he's been coming along well thanks to the warm support of James Horton, his team and everyone involved.' His odds for the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes have tumbled in recent days, as the case for his challenge has become more evident, with Paddy Power making him a 6-1 chance for the final Group One of the meeting on Saturday week. Paddy Power spokesman Paul Binfield said: 'There's been a bit of interest for the Japanese raider and while it's hard to equate winning a Grade One at Chukyo with the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, the volume we've seen has forced us into evasive action and the Hori-trained runner is into 6-1.'
