
40 years on, Army scales Mount Everest again: 22 mountaineers conquer peak in silver jubilee expedition

NEW DELHI: In a landmark tribute to its maiden Everest ascent in 1985, the Indian Army has successfully scaled Mount Everest once again. This time with a 22-member team that reached the summit at 5 am on May 27, 2025.
The mission, called the Silver Jubilee Everest Expedition, marks 40 years of Army mountaineering legacy and showcases the elite endurance of its Adventure Wing.
Led by Lt Col Bhanoo Pathak, with Maj Mehak Mehta and Maj Anirudh Yadav among key climbers, the expedition operated under the overall command of Lt Col Manoj Joshi. The team included 3 officers, 6 Junior Commissioned Officers, and 13 Non-Commissioned Officers, supported by 28 Nepali Sherpas.
The 32-member group, including a Medical Officer and Nursing Assistant, departed India on April 12, reaching Everest Base Camp by April 23. After acclimatisation and battling severe high-altitude conditions, the team launched their final push late on May 26, successfully summiting early the next morning.

Uttarakhand rain alert: Landslide on Kedarnath Highway; travel advisory issued
A devastating landslide struck the Kedarnath National Highway in Uttarakhand, resulting in the death of a driver and injuries to five pilgrims from Chhattisgarh. The incident occurred near Guptkashi in Rudraprayag district, a key route to the Kedarnath Temple. Authorities are urging travelers to avoid visiting higher altitudes in Uttarakhand due to ongoing heavy rains and unstable weather conditions. In a tragic turn of events, a landslide on the Kedarnath National Highway in Uttarakhand, has left one dead. As per news reports, five people are injured. The incident occurred on Thursday near Kund, near the town of Guptkashi in Rudraprayag district. It is one of prime transit points for devotees and pilgrims towards the revered Kedarnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. As per officials, because of the landslide, huge debris fell onto a vehicle which was carrying pilgrims from Chhattisgarh. The debris crushed the vehicle and immediately killed the car driver and injured five passengers. The deceased, a 38-year-old Rajesh Singh Rawat, was a resident of Lambgaon in Tehri Garhwal district. He was taking a group of young pilgrims from Durg, Chhattisgarh, to Kedarnath. Emergency response teams, including the Station Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local administration personnel, quickly reached the location. Rescue operations were carried out promptly, with the injured rushed to Augustmuni Hospital. Among them, two suffered serious injuries, while three others had minor wounds. EaseMyTrip posts Rs 8,691.6 crore Gross Merchandise Value in FY25; Hotels & Holidays jump 189% YoY in Q4
NEW DELHI: EaseMyTrip reported strong growth in the fourth quarter of FY25, with Gross Booking Revenue at Rs 2,192.7 crore and operational revenue at Rs 139.5 crore, according to its financial report. For the full year ending March 31, 2025, EaseMyTrip achieved a total Gross Booking Revenue of Rs 8,691.6 crore, whilst operational revenue reached Rs 587.3 crore. The result was mainly driven by solid performance across key business areas and entry into new markets. Q4 results showed an EBITDA of Rs 17.3 crore with a 12.1 per cent margin, whilst Total Comprehensive Income reached Rs 18.5 crore. Annual EBITDA stood at Rs 161.2 crore with a 26.7 per cent margin, accompanied by a Total Comprehensive Income of Rs 117.1 crore. The organisation's enhanced focus on non-air segments contributed significantly to these results, showing notable year-on-year improvements. The Hotels and Holidays division experienced 189 per cent YoY growth in Q4 FY25. Hotel night bookings increased to 2.8 lakh, showing 101.3 per cent growth compared to the previous year.
