Randeep Hooda to star in war drama ‘Operation Khukri,' based on the 2000 Sierra Leone rescue mission
Bollywood star Randeep Hooda will headline an upcoming military drama titled Operation Khukri, based on the real-life military operation that was carried out in 2000 in Sierra Leone.
The film will tell the story of a rescue mission that was undertaken to save 233 soldiers who were held hostage in Sierra Leone, West Africa, by Rebel Forces. 'The mission — once a peacekeeping effort that escalated into a fierce standoff — tested the mettle of the Indian contingent, surrounded without supplies for 75 days in the hostile terrains of Kailahun. What followed was an audacious, never-before-seen counteroffensive that would be remembered as one of the most successful operations in Indian military history,' reads a description from the makers.
The film will feature Hooda as Major General Raj Pal Punia, who was then a young Company Commander of the 14th Mechanised Infantry. The Major General navigated the extraordinary rescue mission and the subsequent jungle warfare.
The upcoming film is based on the bestseller 'Operation Khukri: The Untold Story of the Indian Army's Bravest Peacekeeping Mission Abroad,' which is a first-hand account by the Major General, who co-wrote the book along with his daughter Damini Punia.
Production banners Rahul Mittra Films and Randeep Hooda Films have secured the rights to the film adaptation of the Penguin Random House India book.
In a statement, Hooda said that the story of Operation Khukri moved him deeply. 'It's not just a tale of guns and glory, but of sacrifice, brotherhood, and unyielding courage in the face of insurmountable odds. To step into the shoes of Major General Punia, a man who led his men out of a 75-day siege in an unknown land, is an honour and a responsibility. Our aim is to bring to life a chapter of Indian military history that deserves far more recognition, not just for the spectacle, but for the spirit of our soldiers who would rather die than surrender. I believe this story has the power to inspire every Indian,' said the Jaat-actor.

Thug Life Box Office Collections: Kamal Haasan starrer is Dead on Arrival with a poor first day
Thug Life is a dead-on-arrival at the box office, with the film taking a below par opening and then followed it with poor initial audience reception. The Kamal Hassan starrer grossed a mere Rs. 17 crore approx on its first day at the Indian box office. The film had underwhelming advances, but even they were better than what it has finally ended up with, due to negligible walkup business during the day. Tamil Nadu made up for most of the first day collection with Rs. 13 crore. From advances, it was expected to collect around Rs. 15-16 crore, but it fell significantly short of that. The first day of business in the state is similar to Indian 2. While that film had some numbers outside Tamil Nadu while this has nothing to show for. The film missed out on a Karnataka release due to the controversy surrounding recent remarks made by Kamal Haasan, but even where it was released, it was a non-starter. Thug Life marks the second major disappointment for Kamal Hassan after Indian 2, third considering Indian 3 is already written off. The legendary actor made a comeback to the forefront of the Tamil box office same week three years ago, with a mega blockbuster Vikram. On paper, his follow-up lineup to Vikram looked highly promising, but it has failed spectacularly. Despite the dismal theatrical performance, the producers of Thug Life are insulated from financial loss, as they fetched handsome prices for the non-theatrical rights. The losses will be with those who paid those prices, as they are certainly not going to recover them, and with the exhibition sector, missing action during the peak summer period. The First Day Box Office Collections of Thug Life are as follows:

Jaat on OTT: Sunny Deol disappoints fans with film ‘as painful as Sikandar'
Jaat on OTT: Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda's Jaat received a tepid response at the box office, and its OTT release hasn't exactly set the digital world ablaze either. The film is facing harsh criticism for its unrealistic storyline, with some even finding it as underwhelming as Salman Khan's Sikandar. Also read: Sunny Deol was roped in for Jaat after this Tollywood actor declined it, reveals director The action thriller landed on Netflix on June 5, and its release was met with a mixed response. Several people took to social media to express their frustration, with many scratching their heads over the film's plot and over-the-top action. 'Watching #JaatOnNetflix 45 mins into it my 8yr old says the person who made this movie is the dumbest guy in the world,' shared one disappointed viewer. One wrote, 'Latest proof that the saviour genre is dead. Watching it was as painful as #Sikandar. Barely a Bollywood movie, a typical but outdated Tollywood action entertainer with 90% south crew & cast'. Another social media user shared, 'Finished watching Jaat. One of the most disappointing films I've seen in a long time. Not a single scene stood out and there was nothing engaging. Definitely didn't work for me'. However, some appreciated Randeep's performance. '#RandeepHooda as Ranatunga is one of the best villain arc written in recent times,' one wrote, with one mentioning, 'A rare gem #jaatonnetflix showcases how a villain should be portrayed.. Opposite a giant called #SUNNYDEOL as! Brigadier Baldev Pratap Singh. Ruling people's heart #JAAT'. 'Jaat movie is actually good. Better than many masala movies and biggies which got success recently. Sunny Deol is slowly coming back to his form,' read one comment. "#JAAT is a decent regular south commercial film, highly running on mass elements & #GopichandMalineni done it again just like he promised 'MASS FEAST'... One time watch,' shared one. Jaat revolves around a mysterious man, played by Sunny, who chances upon a small village in Andhra Pradesh being oppressed by Ranatunga. The film also stars Randeep Hooda, Regina Cassandra, Saiyami Kher, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishnan, Vineet Kumar Singh, Prashant Bajaj, Zarina Wahab, P Ravi Shankar and Babloo Prithiveeraj. It received mixed reviews, with some liking the over-the-top action while others being disappointed with the screenplay. At the time of the release, Jaat recently ran into controversy over a scene. In the film, the antagonist, Ranatunga, played by Randeep Hooda, threatens people inside a church with violence. He also stands in front of a crucifix while doing so. Though the makers blurred all religious imagery in the scene, the Christian community has called for a ban on the film. A video also showed protestors raising slogans of 'Randeep Hooda murdabad' for hurting religious sentiments. Despite lukewarm performance, the film will be back with Jaat 2, with Sunny reprising his role. Gopichand Malineni will also return to helm the sequel.
