Children as young as six are finding porn online as teachers report surge in 'sexual innuendos' in classrooms

Daily Mail20-05-2025

An inquiry has found kids as young as six are finding pornography online while female teachers are becoming the subject of inappropriate sexual innuendos.
Teachers speaking on behalf of the Association of Heads of Independent Schools Australia (NSW), made the shocking disclosures during a NSW Parliamentary inquiry into the 'impacts of harmful pornography on mental, emotional, and physical health'.
The findings were based on the school work kids were producing in the classroom and speculated that students were accidently accessing pornography online by clicking on ads, sometimes on gaming websites.
The inquiry also heard that specialised government supports for children who engaged in harmful sexual behaviours were being delayed due to high demand.
Principal at Montgrove College in Sydney 's west, Lourdes Mejia, said the impacts of the exposure to pornography played out in the classroom.
'You can see that they have had some access to pornography, from perhaps the stories that they tell or even sometimes the drawings or things that they write, the little notes that they pass to each other, that I have seen recently, that's quite surprised me,' Mejia told the inquiry, as reported by The Australian.
Hunter Valley Grammar School Principal Rebecca Butterworth said primary school students sharing sexualised images with each other was concerning.
'I'm quite surprised by the age sometimes. It's started in our school, sometimes around Year Six, and then accelerated in Year 7,' she told the inquiry.
Nowra Anglican College principle Lorrae Sampson said she had seen an increase in the 'objectification of girls' by boys, as well as an surge in boys making 'inappropriate sexual innuendos or noises' towards teachers.
Violence prevention organisation Our Watch has shared a guide for teaching Respectful Relationships Education (RRE) in Australian schools.
The RRE would give students the skills to reject destructive behaviours and harassment and challenge stereotypes like gendered-violence in schools, including towards female teachers, and sexualised bullying.
The behaviour towards female teachers was localised to certain groups of students and clusters of boys.
The inquiry also found that early exposure to pornography and prolonged exposure to damaging pornography was putting local health services under the pump.
Professor Dale Tolliday told the inquiry that pornography contributed to a high demand for health services across the state, including services for children who have displayed harmful sexual behaviours.
He said there was a 'significant delay' in services to ensure adequate government responses to students and their families in New South Wales.

Pregnant special education teacher who allegedly groomed and had sex with a 15-year-old schoolboy breaks down in tears as she fronts court

A special education teacher charged with grooming and having sex with a 15-year-old boy will be released on bail due to her 'high risk' pregnancy. Karly Rae was arrested in October at her home in Merewether in the NSW Hunter region after she allegedly had sex with the teenager from her school. The schoolboy is not believed to require special needs support. The incident allegedly occurred some time between 6pm on October 4 and 12.30pm the following day, court documents seen by The Daily Telegraph said. The former teacher has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges. There is no suggestion the teenager is the father of her unborn child. During a bail hearing on Friday, the court heard Rae had initially been granted bail following her arrest but was thrown behind bars three months later. The court heard she rang the teenager five times in two hours to get him to 'give a false version of events' on January 14, allegedly breaching an apprehended domestic violence order in place to protect the 15-year-old. She was subsequently arrested and has been in custody for the last four months. On Friday, Justice Dhanji granted Rae bail under strict conditions, citing her 'high risk' pregnancy as a key reason. 'The applicant is 23 weeks pregnant, due to give birth in September,' he said. At the mention of her pregnancy, Rae could be seen sobbing silently on the video link she used to join the court hearing. Justice Dhanji noted the pregnancy was 'complicated' and 'high risk' due to her gestational diabetes, as well as her previous experience with miscarriages. He said due to the nature of the allegations against Rae, the child would not be able to stay with her if she remained in custody. Addressing her previous breach of bail, he acknowledged she did attempt to dissuade the teenager from giving an 'accurate version of events'. He said Rae was 'no longer able to work as a teacher' and it is 'highly improbable that there would be any attempt by the applicant to engage in sexual activity with a child'. At least 14 bail conditions have been applied, including home detention, no social media, and the requirement to report to Toronto Police Station three days a week. Earlier this week, Rae appeared on a video link at Newcastle Magistrates Court where she pleaded not guilty to five charges. These included aggravated sexual intercourse with a child aged between 14 and 16, grooming a child for unlawful sexual activity and possession of child abuse material. She is also facing charges of do act to pervert the course of justice and contravene apprehended violence order after the incident in January. The charges against her of aggravated sexual intercourse with a child aged between 14 and 16 and produce child abuse material have been dropped. Rae's case will go to trial in the District Court and will be arraigned in July.

Teacher's Pet killer Chris Dawson suffers another blow as bombshell new court ruling is revealed

Ex-teacher Chris Dawson's legal losses continue after he failed to overturn his conviction for the sexual abuse of a female student. The 76-year-old has already failed in his bid to overturn a separate conviction over the murder of his wife Lynette in January 1982. He has been sentenced to a maximum of 24 years for the homicide. The conviction for the abuse of the student was upheld by the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal on Friday. Justices Kristina Stern and Sarah McNaughton - who oversaw an appeal hearing in March - ruled to dismiss Dawson's legal challenge. Justice Peter Hamill was the lone judge in dissent, saying he would have allowed the appeal and quashed the conviction. The full reasons of the court have yet to be published. The carnal knowledge sentence, which relates to a former student known as AB who later moved into his home, added one year to his non-parole period. The disappearance of mother-of-two Lynnette Dawson on January 8, 1992 was among the most notorious cold cases in Australia (pictured: Chris and Lynette Dawson) Prosecutors said it would have been highly unlikely the mother-of-two would have walked out on the children she adored. They also told how she did not pack any belongings. (pictured: Lynette with daughter Shanelle) Chris Dawson has failed in a bid to overturn a conviction over the abuse of a former student At an appeal hearing in March, Dawson's lawyers attempted to cast doubt on AB's claims she had been sexually abused before her 17th birthday. A person can only be convicted under the carnal knowledge offence - which was in place in 1982 - if the complainant is between 16 and 17 years old. Dawson also claimed the verdict was unreasonable, asking the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal to overturn it. The then-PE teacher groomed AB during fitness classes and organised a tennis match so the girl could meet his wife and start babysitting, a District Court trial was told in 2023. The teen started sleeping with Dawson and eventually moved into his home soon after Lynette was murdered and he disposed of her body, the NSW Supreme Court found when he was convicted over the killing in 2022. Dawson is incarcerated at Sydney's Silverwater prison. His 18-year non-parole period for murder expires in 2040. 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732) National Sexual Abuse and Redress Support Service 1800 211 028

French heroes who confronted Joe Cauchi with bollards at Westfield Bondi Junction receive top accolade

Armed with bollards and bravery, French nationals Damien Guerot and Silas Despreaux confronted Joel Cauchi amid his stabbing rampage at a busy mall in broad daylight where he killed six dead in five minutes. They were awarded the Ordre National du Merite, one of France 's highest distinctions, on Thursday at NSW parliament for their courageous efforts on April 13, 2024. Footage of the construction workers coming face to face with the attacker atop an escalator during his killing spree at Westfield Bondi Junction went viral. Cauchi, who had a history of acute mental health disorders and was off his medication, knifed 10 other victims in the indiscriminate attack before being shot dead by Inspector Amy Scott. 'We were defending ourselves because we were thinking he (Cauchi) was coming after us and the first thing we saw were the bollards,' 32-year-old Mr Guerot told AAP. Mr Despreaux, 33, who grew in Ukraine as a youngster with his father who was a charity worker, said 'adrenaline' drove them to act swiftly. The tradies were at the mall to buy a new laptop but their day quickly turned into a blood-soaked episode when they saw Mr Cauchi stab a few victims and stood only a few metres away from them before the lone police officer, Ms Scott, killed him. The fallout from the mass stabbing is being examined in an ongoing coronial inquest. 'In the hour of danger when dozens of lives were at risk... they ran towards the violence, they chose to put their lives on the line,' Premier Chris Minns said. 'The sad and hard truth is we don't know how bad this tragedy could've been without their intervention. '(You) will always be heroes of this state.' French Ambassador Pierre-Andre Imbert, who presented the blue coloured medals to the two French friends, praised them for their humility and deliberately staying out of the limelight after the events. 'They acted not out of duty, but out of instinct,' he said. The pair's actions in attempting to hold back the assailant prompted French President Emmanuel Macron at the time to commend the courage of the compatriots. They join a long list of renowned recipients of the award in the last six decades including oceanographer Jacques Cousteau and actress Isabelle Huppert. Mr Guerot confirmed that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese promptly followed through on his promise of granting him permanent residency for saving lives. Both heroes were awarded the Ordre National du Merite, one of France's highest distinctions, on Thursday at NSW parliament for their bravery during the Bondi Junction massacre The pair had been going to the gym they stumbled across the carnage at the shopping centre Even though, Mr Despreaux is eligible for citizenship he is waiting for Mr Guerot to share another crucial milestone together. When he first came out to Australia, softly spoken Mr Guerot said he brought a small stuffed toy rooster to remind him of France and he has added two more animals that symbolise what he has gone through. 'I have three emblems in my heart - the rooster, the kangaroo and emu - animals that never move backwards,' he said. 'Together they keep me going forward with courage, pride and hope.'
