Friends desperately raise funds for Brit fighting for life in a coma after 'freak accident' saw him fall from balcony in Marbella
A group of young friends have rallied together to raise money to support their pal who is fighting for his life in Marbella.
Harry Watts fell from a balcony in a 'horrific freak accident' while on holiday in the south of Spain.
The Hessle local was placed in an induced coma after suffering 'life-threatening injuries' including a bleed on the brain, severe internal damage and multiple broken bones.
Although Mr Watts has already had a few major surgeries, he has 'a lot more ahead of him before he's out of it all', his close friend said.
Luke Coupland, who is raising funds for Mr Watts 'future needs' by running a marathon, said the young man's family 'have dropped everything and rushed out there to be by his side as their world fell apart'.
He added: 'They haven't left the hospital. They're sitting there, day and night hoping and praying for Harry's health, as we all are.'
Heartbroken loved ones flocked to share their condolences.
Paris Hawley wrote 'we love you Harry and can't wait for you to come home safe'.
Lisa Lee added 'in shock. Thinking of all the Watts family. Sending love from the Lee Family'.
Carla Gibson said: 'Just heard in our local fruit shop. Can't imagine what you are going through, my oldest lad is 20 years old. Sending best wishes and healing thoughts. Hope he's picking up really soon.'
Jack Donkin posted 'all the best Harry. Pull through kiddo'.
The announcement comes only days after an unnamed tourist was rushed to the Costa del Sol Hospital in a 'critical condition' after plunging from the Hard Rock Hotel in Puerto Banus near Marbella.
The holidaymaker was then transferred to the Regional University Hospital of Malaga after 5am on Sunday, when the incident took place.
Witnesses say the unnamed tourist fell from a first-floor balcony although it is said to have been the equivalent of a third-floor fall because of the area the hotel is built in.
Police have not yet made any official comment but are not thought to be treating the incident as a case of so-called 'balconing', where tourists try to leap into their hotel holiday pools from their rooms or jump between balconies.
Another three British friends who were with the injured man, who is described as young but whose age has not yet been made public, have been questioned by police as part of an ongoing investigation.
According to local reports, they were sleeping at the time and were unaware their friend had plunged to the ground. The trio were only informed of the incident by police when they knocked on their door.
And two weeks ago, a British teenager was left fighting for his life after falling from a third-floor apartment in Ibiza.
The 18-year-old man lost consciousness following the incident in Sant Antoni de Portmany, according to emergency services.
Paramedics were able to stabilise the victim, who sustained serious injuries, before he was transferred to hospital.

He has now been jailed for four years and four months after he pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of class A drugs (cocaine) while serving a prison sentence. Burnley Crown Court was told Watts was originally locked up in September 2023 for dealing cocaine and cannabis. In July last year, officers at Northwich Proactive CID discovered intelligence suggesting Watts was in possession of a mobile. They believed he was using the contraband to sell drugs from his cell at the Preston nick. Following the discovery, Watts was searched and prison officers discovered an Apple iPhone strapped to his waist. A search of the phone revealed a catalogue of messages that proved he was selling illegal drugs. Police Constable Dan Lee, Of Northwich Proactive CID, said: 'Watts saw his initial prison sentence as an inconvenience rather than a punishment. "After smuggling a mobile phone into the prison, he thought that he could simply continue to run his criminal enterprise from behind bars, directing people lower down the chain to deliver drugs on his behalf. 'However, he clearly underestimated the dedication and determination of the team here at Northwich Proactive CID. "As soon as we became aware of his latest activities we brought them to a swift conclusion and were ready to arrest him as he was released from prison. Mike Rydings, then 47, went to the Spanish resort of Benidorm with 30 mates. After a night of enjoying a few pints at a pub and watching the 2018 World Cup, he fell victim to a brutal attack. The group were taking in the sights of the Avenue de Mallorca strip and had just left the Hippodrome Bar when the lifelong Manchester United supporter lost contact with his friends. In the early hours of June 23, Mike, a builder from Wythenshawe, was assaulted. His nose was broken and he fell onto the ground, hitting his head and sustaining severe head trauma. Mike spent a month unconscious in hospital, with his then-pregnant daughter Hayley and sister Nicola flying out to be by his side as he lay connected to ventilator machines. Mike had travelled to celebrate a friend's 50th birthday and watch the 2018 World Cup (Image: PA ) Article continues below After being flown back to Salford Royal Hospital, Mike spent the remaining year of his life unable to move or speak, in a vegetative state and requiring round-the-clock care. He tragically passed away in August of 2019, he was only 48. His attacker has never been found. Despite the incident sparking an inquiry by the local Spanish authorities no witness statements or police investigations have ever brought Mike's attacker to justice. Speaking on what would have been his 54th birthday, Mike's daughter Hayley said the family has spent years in the dark and "unable to have closure without answers" as they issued another desperate plea for information. Hayley told the Manchester Evening News: "You can't ever really move on, because you don't have any answers. It's been years and we haven't been told anything. "At the time, there were so many different witness stories. At one point we were told it was a stag party and someone in camouflage clothing. Then we were told it was a bouncer. "One stated that, the night he was attacked, my dad had a drink and was seen backing off with his hands in the air when he was punched to the nose, which broke, and then he fell backwards onto his head. They said they have never been able to get the sound of him hitting the ground out of their head." Back in the UK, the Greater Manchester Police conducted meticulous inquiries, pulling in over 15 British holiday-goers who witnessed the attack. The Hippodrome bar on Avenue de Mallorca in Benidorm Detectives have described the suspect in the assault on Mike as a white male, in his 20s or 30s, with a larger than average build, between 5ft 7ins and 6ft tall, and possibly wearing in camouflage clothing. Hayley, 36, recalled the harrowing moment she found out: "My dad's partner at the time got the call from one of his friends to tell her what had happened. When you hear that, you still never think it will be as bad as what we walked into." "When I first saw him in the hospital and he was lying there with tubes everywhere it was so painful I had to walk back out. "I was pregnant with one of my daughters, and I flew out the next day with my partner. Between me and Nicola his sister we kept going back and forth to make sure he was never on his own. It was so hard on us all. I had a young child at the time too, so it was really difficult." Mike was eventually flown home and admitted to Salford Royal Hospital. Hayley explained that despite surviving until the following August, he was unable to move or speak, making her feel as though she had 'already lost him' before his life support was withdrawn. Hayley added: "My dad never got to hold her or touch my daughter because he was in hospital. In 2022, I had a son which would have been his only grandson. He had always wanted a grandson." Greater Manchester Police confirmed there had been no updates in the case, which remains in the hands of Spanish authorities. Lee Rigby was beheaded outside a Royal Artillery barracks in London twelve years ago. His death in Woolwich, South East London, sent shock waves across the nation. The 25-year-old was a drummer in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. Advertisement He was returning to Woolwich barracks after working at the Tower of London when he was spotted by his killers in Wellington Street at around 2.20pm. Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale had circled the barracks in a blue Vauxhall Tigra for an hour hunting for a victim. As Lee crossed the road, the pair spotted his Help 4 Heroes hoodie and mowed him down in the car. The killers then leapt out of the vehicle and began stabbing and hacking at Lee's body with knives and a meat cleaver in an assault so fierce they almost decapitated him.
