Telangana HC seeks explanation over delay in opening government hospital
HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday pulled up the state government for the inordinate delay in making operational a fully constructed and equipped 100-bedded government hospital in Alampur, Jogulamba Gadwal district. The court directed the government to file its response within two weeks, explaining the reasons for not commencing regular medical services at the facility.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Renuka Yara expressed serious concern over the continued inaction, questioning why the hospital - built at a cost of Rs 21 crore and completed in October 2023 - remains non-functional even 18 months after completion.
During the hearing, Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul observed, 'A 100-bedded hospital has been constructed in Alampur, but the state government is not opening it, not providing staff, and the equipment remains unused.' The Bench directed the government counsel to obtain clear instructions from relevant departments on the reasons for the delay.
The directive came in response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by social activist and politician S Ramchandra Reddy, a resident of Ieeja in Jogulamba Gadwal district. The petitioner alleged that despite several representations to the authorities, the hospital has not been made functional, depriving the people of Alampur of basic medical services.

Malviya further said that under the PLI scheme for electronics alone, 1,39,670 direct jobs have already been created. As many as 1.8 lakh new companies were registered in 2023-24, marking a 16 per cent increase over the previous year, he said. "Electronics exports hit USD 38+ billion in FY24-25, a 32 per cent year-on-year increase," Malviya said. "PLI allocations for electronics rose from Rs 5,747 crore (FY24-25) to Rs 8,885 crore (FY25-26) - a clear signal of continued commitment," he added. Malviya said the government has approved landmark semiconductor projects worth Rs 1.52 lakh crore, "a critical leap into deep-tech manufacturing". Overall, electronics production is projected to reach USD 300 billion by 2026, he said.

Uttarakhand CM Dhami announces India's first Yoga Policy in Gairsain
Dehradun, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday announced a Yoga Policy for Uttarakhand on the occasion of 11th International Yoga Day making it the first state in the country to frame such a policy. Making the announcement in Uttarakhand's summer capital Gairsain in the presence of a host of foreign dignitaries, Dhami said the policy is aimed at developing the state into a global wellness destination. The chief minister said that a subsidy of up to Rs 20 lakh would be given under this policy for establishing yoga and wellness centres besides a grant of up to Rs 10 lakh for research in the field of yoga, meditation and naturopathy. Under the Yoga Policy 2025, which is the country's first, Dhami said that his government is determined to establish five new yoga hubs in Uttarakhand by 2030. By March 2026, the availability of yoga services will also be ensured in all AYUSH Health and Wellness Centers in the state, he added. Live Events The chief minister also announced that two spiritual cities, one each in Kumaon and Garhwal regions of the state, would be developed under the policy. "Making Uttarakhand the global capital of yoga and wellness is our commitment," he said. Describing yoga as a natural system of healing, Dhami said it establishes complete harmony between the mind, soul and body. "Yoga keeps our body healthy and provides inner peace, mental balance and spiritual stability to human life. Yoga helps in reducing stress. With various yoga asanas and pranayama, the body and mind can be freed from stress. Apart from increasing the concentration of the mind, yoga also releases positive energy in life," he said. The chief minister released a booklet on the state's Yoga Policy. Bihar govt increases old age, widow pension by Rs 700 per month
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday said his government has decided to increase the pensions of senior citizens, widows and people with disability by Rs 700 per month. The beneficiaries will get enhanced pensions of Rs 1,100 from July, he said. 'I am happy to inform you that under the Social Security Pension Scheme, all the elderly, disabled and widowed women will now get a pension of Rs 1,100, instead of Rs 400 every month. All the beneficiaries will get a pension at the increased rate from July,' Kumar said on X. The pension amount will be sent to the accounts of all beneficiaries on the 10th day of every month, he said. 'This decision of the government will help beneficiaries and will ensure they lead a dignified and socially secure life, which is the top priority of the government. Social security is recognised as a vital component of the development process,' Social Welfare Department Secretary Bandana Preyashi told PTI. The total number of beneficiaries for the pension scheme in the state is over 1.09 crore, the CM said. 'The elderly people are an important part of society, and their dignified living is our top priority. The state government will continue to make efforts in this direction,' the chief minister said. The decision assumes significance as the state will go to the assembly polls in a few months. The increase in pension will result in an additional burden of around Rs 3594.42 crore annually on the state exchequer, an official said on the condition of anonymity. Earlier, the government was spending Rs 5,405.58 crore, and now it will have to spend around Rs 9,000 crore annually. This decision of the government will now be sent for cabinet approval, the official said. The social security programmes, under which pensions have been increased, are the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme, Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme, Laxmibai Social Security Pension Scheme, Bihar Disability Pension Scheme and Mukhyamantri Vriddhjan Pension Scheme. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said the interest rate on loans for 'Jeevika Didi' has been reduced by 3 per cent. This decision will provide relief to women, the elderly and disabled people, he said. 'The NDA government cares about every section of society. Congratulations to all,' he added.
