Shooting at Connecticut mall leaves multiple injured, with shooter on the run: Police
Police in Waterbury, Connecticut, say a shooting at a mall on Tuesday afternoon has injured multiple people.
According to a Facebook post from the Waterbury Police Department, a shooting reported at the Brass Mill Center left multiple people injured.
'Multiple victims have been reported, and law enforcement is actively on scene,' police said. 'We urge the public to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to respond effectively and ensure everyone's safety.'
According to reporting from local news station NBC Connecticut, five people were transported to area hospitals with gunshot wounds, but police would not tell the station the severity of their wounds.
Multiple media outlets reported that the shooter was still on the loose.
The Waterbury Police Department did not immediately respond to USA TODAY's request for comment on Tuesday.
Witness Javon Turner told CBS News that he heard the gunshots.
"A girl got shot. She was losing a lot of blood," he said. "It was crazy, and I tell everybody, 'Get out of here, let's go.' I tried to get everybody out of here in safety."

Flowers estimated that the three people were treading water for about 45 minutes before they were recovered. The pilot was the most severely injured, reporting pain in his ribs, however, all three were transported to Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce for further medical examination. The crash is now being investigated by the NTSB and FAA. 'This is just an incredibly heroic event,' Flowers said of the joint agency rescue, noting that the passengers 'would probably be dead out there today if it weren't for our efforts.' Flowers said that the mayday call, which provided officials with coordinates, and a witness sighting were crucial in the rescue. A helicopter 'spotted the persons in the water and directed rescue boats to their location,' the sheriff's office said in a statement shared on Facebook. When rescue teams got to the scene, the two passengers 'were pointing' to the pilot. Deputy Pilot Jonathan Lozada noted that the dark surroundings added to the danger of the rescue. 2 women shot while trying to break up fight at Koeneman Park
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A University City woman has been charged for shooting two women who attempted to break up a fight at Koeneman Park. According to Mary Schmitt, a spokeswoman, the shooting happened around 6:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, in the 2600 block of Shannon Avenue in Jennings. Police said the two victims attempted to break up a fight between two other people. In response, Imani R. Easley, 23, pulled out a Glock pistol and shot one victim in her right arm and the other victim in her chest. Both victims were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. The woman who was shot in her chest remains listed in critical condition. Body cam video reveals new details in viral North County K-9 incident Police said there were several bystanders and witnesses to the shooting, and the entire incident was captured on Facebook video. After reviewing the video, police arrested Easley. Police said Easley later admitted to shooting both victims. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged Easley with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.
