Ektanagari relocation to cost ₹1,500 crore, buildings within floodline will be razed: MoS

: The
Pune Municipal Corporation
(PMC) had planned a 'cluster development' project to rehabilitate people from Ektanagari and nearby areas. This cluster will be developed under the Urban Redevelopment Scheme, according to UDCPR section 14.8.
The proposal involves relocation of as many as 1,383 homes and at least 67 shops from the flood-prone 'blue zones' of Ektanagari,
Vitthalnagar
and
Nimbajnagar

Q: What are the short-term solutions proposed to avert flooding in the Ektanagari area?
A: In the short term, focus is on preventing water from entering homes and shops. This plan includes the removal of debris and trash as well as prevention of any future dumping.
Q: How are authorities going to stop debris dumping?
A: The administration is going to install CCTV cameras to monitor debris dumping here. The cameras will be used to catch the offenders, who will face criminal cases.
Q: What are the long-term plans, for a more permanent solution?
A: That's where the cluster development proposal comes in. The permanent solution involves total relocation of affected citizens. Properties that fall within floodlines will be razed and residents will be moved to other plots. Two plots are available in the vicinity of the affected areas.
Q: Why has the planned cluster development project progressed at such a slow pace?
A: The financial requirement of the project has been a major concern. We need Rs1,500 crore to complete it and these funds are not available as of today. State govt has received the proposal from PMC, which is being discussed at the UD level.
Q: In Ektanagari, there have been issues linked to flood compensation. Could you clarify?
A: Yes, that is correct. The flood-affected people living in residential flats received compensation. But those with commercial properties or shops are yet to receive it. The lack of provisions in law for this type of compensation has delayed compensation to shop owners.

NMC to introduce policy to identify parking spaces, no-parking zones
Nashik: The civic body is drawing up a parking policy for the first time to address parking issues in the city. Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is expected to introduce the policy within a month. The policy will help in identifying parking spaces and no parking zones. This initiative will help streamline traffic in the city and curb illegal parking. Speaking to TOI, a senior NMC official said that the policy will be introduced shortly. "We have already started preparing a policy with the help of a private agency with expertise in traffic and parking management. We have planned to start the pay-and-park system at 33 parking spaces, including 28 on-street and five off-street parking spaces. These spaces were earlier identified by the Smart City Corporation. The parking policy will include re-identification of these parking spaces across the city," said the senior NMC official. Out of the designated parking spaces, 'no parking zones' will be identified. If people park their vehicles in these zones, they will face action by the police authorities. This will help smoothen vehicular traffic in the city, said the NMC official. NMC is also planning multi-level or mechanical parking at some locations in the city. The parking policy will include identification of places where these projects will be developed, said the official. Moreover, the policy will include speed-reducing measures for all 52 junctions across the city to prevent mishaps and streamline traffic, he said. There are plans to start the 'pay-and-park' system in the city at the earliest. A tender will be floated immediately for deployment of private agencies to operate parking spaces, said the official. Although the vehicle population in Nashik city is increasing rapidly, there are currently no designated parking spaces, forcing vehicle owners to park on roadside. This has led to traffic jams during peak hours in several parts of old city area. City residents and social activists have been demanding that the NMC administration make parking spaces operational across the city to ease traffic congestion. Moreover, the traffic police have also written to the NMC administration several times, requesting that parking spaces be made operational at the earliest. Earlier in 2020, the agency appointed by the smart city corporation to start 'pay-n-park' across all 33 locations refused to operate the parking spaces, seeking an extension in the contract period by three years, a waiver of Rs 17.5 lakh royalty annually to NMC, and a hike in parking charges. There was no development in the last five years. Now, the NMC administration has decided to start parking spaces at various locations in the city. These locations will be identified through its parking policy.

Hasan Mushrif's son Navid chosen unopposed by board to post of Gokul dairy's chairman
Kolhapur: Navid Mushrif, the 39-year-old son of state cabinet minister Hasan Mushrif, has been named the next — and youngest — chairman of the Kolhapur Zilla Sahakari Dudh Utpadak Sangh Ltd, popularly known by its brand name Gokul dairy. Gokul is the largest cooperative milk dairy in Maharashtra, connecting with every milk-supplying farmer in Kolhapur district, a major supply market in Mumbai, Pune, and Goa, and an annual turnover of over Rs3,500 crore. Navid will hold the post for one year, the remainder of the five-year tenure. The next elections for Gokul dairy are going to take place next year. Interestingly, barely ten days ago, when Mushrif was asked about whether Navid is in the race for the chairman's post, he had told reporters: "He has to wait for now. There is no question of his acceptance. The horse will be in the race only if he is unleashed." At the time, then-chairman of Gokul, Arun Dongle, had refused to resign. This had pushed Mushrif — a key leader of the Rajarshi Shahu Parivartan Aghadi, which won Gokul's election in 2021 — into a corner. The state-level leadership of Mahayuti, especially BJP and Shiv Sena leaders, had been insisting that someone from their alliance should become chairman of Gokul dairy to boost chances of a win in the local body elections. Patil is also a member of the Rajarshi Shahu Parivartan Aghadi along with Mushrif. In a twist, it was Patil himself who handed the closed envelope with Navid's name inside to the senior director of Gokul dairy, Vishwas Patil, to table before the directors' meeting. The name was accepted unopposed, thus making Navid the youngest ever chairman in the history of Gokul dairy. Commenting on the development, Satej Patil said, "We all leaders met together and finalized the name unanimously. There is no political colour to the choice made by all of us. There were many directors who were interested to become chairman for the remainder of the term." Among top runners 24 hours before Navid's name started doing rounds was Shashikant Patil Chuyekar, son of Anandrao Patil Chuyekar, founder of Gokul dairy. His name was almost final and was said to be accepted by leaders across political parties — but it was not to be. Commenting on the development, Chuyekar said, "Gokul dairy is our family. The decision was taken by the leaders, and he (Navid) was elected unopposed." Besides being a state cabinet minister, Hasan Mushrif is also chairman of the Kolhapur District Central Cooperative Bank. Now, his son is following in his footsteps and two important institutions connected to farmers of the district are with the Mushrif family. After accepting congratulatory felicitations at the dairy's headquarters, Navid, who is also the chairman of a sugar factory, told reporters, "I have decided not to use the official vehicle of the dairy and will use my own. The decision to choose me was taken by all leaders. We are all united. We must expand Gokul with the help of state govt."
