‘That's a lie': New Yorkers slam Connecticut's ‘best pizza' claim
GREENWICH VILLAGE, Manhattan (PIX11) — An escalation in the war of words over which state has the best pizza.
Connecticut's Office of Statewide Marketing and Tourism put up several billboards in Manhattan and Brooklyn that read: 'The Nation's Best Pizza: Not You New York.'
The CTVISIT website says Connecticut is taking its 'unapologetic pizza pride to the streets (and ego) of NYC with a billboard blitz that dares New Yorkers to admit their pizza isn't as good as Connecticut's.'
The majority of New Yorkers walking past one of the signs on Sixth Avenue and West 10th didn't even break their stride to look at the sign. People we asked about it had plenty to say.
Alex Joe said, 'I know Connecticut. I tried Connecticut, Manhattan has the best pizza. Shalia Ferguson said of the sign, 'Oh no, that's a lie. New York is the best.'
Jimy Graham added that Connecticut is 'Just trolling. I guess trolling is trendy now, I guess, trendy trolling. What makes New York pizza? New York pizza is the music, the jazz, the blues, the people, the rhythm.'

National Puerto Rican Day Parade 2025 when, where, route, and more
NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — Dubbed 'America's largest cultural celebration' with an estimated one million attendees, the National Puerto Rican Day Parade returns to New York City for its 68th year on Sunday. This year's parade follows the theme of 'Plantando Bandera (Planting Roots),' which focuses on recognizing how Puerto Rican communities have established deep roots and positively contributed to their communities. Things To Do Around NYC Event organizers also partnered with New York-native Lin-Manuel Miranda and his company TeeRico, to create merchandise featuring this year's theme. The design combines the Puerto Rican flag with a ceiba tree whose roots stretch around the image a global, symbolizing the deep roots and worldwide influence of Puerto Rican identity. The artwork was created by Puerto Rican artist Jorge Rafael Calderón. The National Puerto Rican Day Parade is preceded by the 40th-annual 116th Street Festival in East Harlem on Saturday. More than 500,000 people will celebrate Puerto Rican culture, music, food and more during the 20-block festival. The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. on Sunday and runs along Fifth Avenue from 43rd Street to 79th Street. Celebrations are expected to last through 5 p.m. Among the honorees in this year's National Puerto Rican Day Parade include six-time Grammy-winner Olga Tañón as the Queen of the celebration, film and television actor Luis Guzmán as the King, Golden Globe Award-winning actress Gina Rodríguez as the Madrina (Godmother), and Grammy and Latin Grammy-winning artist Elvis Crespo as the Padrino (Godfather?). Merchandise designed by Puerto Rican artist Jorge Rafael Calderón and through collaboration with Lin-Manuel Miranda can be purchased online. Proceeds from all sales go towards the NPRDP Scholarship Fund to support the next generation of Puerto Rican leaders. NYC foster teens celebrate graduation and dance group performs for mayor
NEW YORK (PIX11) – From a celebration of foster teens who have defied the odds and are now getting support and thriving, to a youth dance group that had the chance to perform for the mayor, PIX11's Monica Morales has the updates. It was a special celebration for some incredible graduates at Hunter College School of Social Work. More than 100 young people who beat the odds in a big way got special certificates. More Local News It's thanks to the city and several non-profits who helped make it happen. Damon Dunbar,17, from the Bronx, says his certificate proving he completed high school means the world to him. It's been a rough road to get here for Dunbar. In foster care since last year, city officials say Dunbar is not letting his circumstances define his future. With a positive mindset, Dunbar is now on his way to the Borough of Manhattan Community College to study business. Ina Mendez, the Deputy Commissioner at the Administration for Children's Services. She says it's important to celebrate this milestone because it represents a victory over struggles and now success. Mendez says the city is now proud to invest in these students on their exciting journeys to college, thanks to ACS in partnership with NYC Public Schools, the Center for Fair Futures, and the nonprofit called NY Foundling. Each teen takes the stage with determination to succeed despite obstacles. With support from the college choice program and Fair Futures, each young adult will now receive a stipend to cover housing and tuition costs. A game changer. There's an exciting update about one of our favorite Bronx dance groups. Milteri Tucker Concepcion, the founder and director of the Bombazo Dance Company, says her children had the performance of a lifetime.
