'Mr Flashy' and his brother sentenced over altercation outside shopping centre
Two brothers serving jail terms from the Special Criminal Court have been sentenced in relation to an altercation outside a Dublin shopping centre in daylight hours.
Glen Ward (32) and Eric O'Driscoll (23), both of Deanstown Green, Finglas, pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Cardiffsbridge Road, Finglas West, on August 9th, 2022.

Both also pleaded guilty to production of a bicycle saddle in the course of a dispute, on the same date after O'Driscoll went to Dunnes Stores in Finglas when the court heard there were 'verbals' between two groups of people.
Ward, known as 'Mr Flashy', has previously been named in the High Court as the leader of the north Dublin organised crime group known as 'The Gucci Gang', so-called due to members having a liking for designer goods.
Both men are serving Special Criminal Court sentences for firearms offences imposed last month.
Ward was given six years and three months with the final nine months suspended. O'Driscoll, who is eight years younger than his brother, is serving a six-year sentence with the final year suspended.

Ward has 22 previous convictions and O'Driscoll has nine, the court heard.
The court heard a co-accused received an 18-month suspended sentence arising out of the same incident.
Ward was given an 18-month suspended sentence and O'Driscoll was given a two-year sentence with the final 18 months suspended.
Judge Elva Duffy said she was not interfering with the suspended portion of the Special Criminal Court sentences they were serving but they were mandatory consecutive terms.

'They do require to be marked – they are serious offences,' said the judge.
Detective Garda Dwayne O'Brien gave evidence on Wednesday of both incidents at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Det Gda O'Brien agreed with Sean Prendiville BL, defending Ward that the dispute 'wasn't instigated by them'.
Mr Prendiville said Ward was the third of six siblings and trained as a mechanic. He has a long-term partner and a child.

O'Driscoll was also sentenced after he pleaded to endangerment and dangerous driving offences arising out of a motorcycle incident in November 17th, 2022.
The court heard he was 'emotional' having attended a memorial service for his friend. He was on bail at the time of the offence.
The court heard gardaí responded to reports of a motorcycle driving dangerously and doing U-turns on the Cappagh Road.

Gardaí were assisted by the Armed Support Unit, the court heard. No victim impact statements were made as no victims were identifiable.
A helicopter was in pursuit of O'Driscoll on the day and footage of it was shown the court where he was seen almost knocking people down who were collecting children from school and mounting a kerb to evade gardai.
He ultimately arrived at a house where he dismounted his motorcycle and fled through the back gardens of an estate before being apprehended by armed gardaí.
Judge Duffy also banned O'Driscoll from driving for a period of 10 years.

A former girlfriend of Sean "Diddy" Combs has told his sex trafficking trial how a whirlwind romance opened a "Pandora's box" of sex sessions with male escorts that she did not know how to stop. The witness, who is testifying under the pseudonym "Jane", alleges the hip-hop mogul coerced her into participating in drug-fuelled "debauchery" nights throughout their relationship, which began in 2021 and ended when he was arrested in September 2024. She began her evidence on a dramatic day at the Manhattan court, taking to the stand not long after Judge Arun Subramanian issued a warning to Combs 's lawyers after seeing the rapper "nodding vigorously" towards the jury during earlier testimony. If the "totally unacceptable" behaviour happens again during the trial, the judge said, he could take steps to remove the defendant from the courtroom. Jane is one of three alleged victims of Combs giving evidence during his trial, and her allegations mirror those given by his former long-term partner Cassie Ventura. Both women said the rapper would sit in the corner and masturbate as he watched them have sex, and that the sessions would often last for more than 24 hours with "no sleep". Combs, 55, is accused of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. In court on Thursday, he often looked straight at Jane as she gave evidence. The single mother began her testimony by describing her whirlwind romance with Combs, saying he made her feel special and showered her with love and gifts in the first few months from January 2021. Asked what happened in May 2021, she bowed her head and became emotional as she told the court how Combs started to talk about fantasies of role play with other men. One night, he told her he could make the fantasy a reality, she says - and did so straight away. Jane told the court she agreed to having sex with the male escort because she wanted to make Combs happy - and even "felt excited" afterwards after doing something "taboo". However, she said she thought it was a one-off. Instead, "it opened a Pandora's box" and "set the tone" going forward, she said. After that first night in May 2021, Jane said she was having sex with other men "90%" of the time. Asked if this is what she wanted, she said it wasn't, but that she "went along with it because I loved him at this point". Combs kept pushing her into these sex sessions, and she felt "obligated" to go along with it, she said. He also had control over her life in other ways, she told the court, including by paying the rent on her home. But as their relationship continued, she said she did tell him, "many times", she did not want to keep having sex with other men, but he would dismiss her, make her feel uncomfortable, or seemingly threaten to stop paying her rent. These encounters were referred to as "debauchery" or hotel nights, she told the court, and they always followed the same pattern - "hotel suites, red lights, music, lotions and alcohol, there would be bed sheets covering everything, blankets and towels, because of the excessive use of baby oil everywhere". Jane said she would "have drugs in my system" and wear "provocative" lingerie and "high stripper shoes", and Combs would ask her to pour baby oil on the men and on herself. These sessions typically lasted between 24 and 30 hours, she said, with "no sleep". In her testimony, Cassie Ventura told of similar sexual encounters, which Combs referred to as "freak offs", she said.

Man jailed for making bogus calls claiming bodies were floating in the sea
A man who made bogus calls to the emergency services about bodies floating in the sea off Co Donegal has been jailed for two and a half years. Nathan Coughlan also admitted to breaking into and robbing churches during a crime spree over a five-year period. Advertisement Coughlan, who has 197 previous convictions, appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court where he pleaded guilty to a raft of charges. On Thursday, Judge John Aylmer jailed the 28-year-old for a total of three years and eight months but suspended the last 14 months of the sentence to encourage his rehabilitation. Some of the sentences handed down were consecutive to each other as Coughlan had committed some offences while out on bail for making a bogus call to the emergency services. Judge Aylmer allowed him a reduction in sentence for the initial headline sentences because of mitigation. Advertisement In mitigation, Judge Aylmer said Coughlan had entered a guilty plea to all charges and that he was now using his time well while in prison. He added that Coughlan is turning his mind towards rehabilitation and his addiction to cocaine, and that it does appear that he is anxious to deal with that addiction despite not being able to start addiction treatment just yet while in prison. The charges related to ten different incidents, all of which were carried out while Coughlan was either drunk or on drugs. The accused, who is originally from Ennis in Co Clare, has now custody at Castlerea Prison since last October. Advertisement Garda Sergeant Maurice Doyle and state prosecutor Ms Fiona Crawford outlined the litany of charges and details of the incidents. In total, the accused was charged with making three separate bogus calls to the emergency services as well as breaking into four different church buildings on various dates. Coughlan first pleaded guilty to making a false report at Single Street, Finner, Bundoran on November 11th, 2019, that a person was on a cliff in horrendous weather conditions, which sparked a major rescue alert involving the coastguard, RNLI, fire service, gardaí and ambulance service. A recording of the bogus call identified Coughlan as the culprit by Garda Mark Geraghty, and the accused admitted buying a cheap Nokia phone, using it and then throwing it into the sea. Advertisement Coughlan admitted making two more bogus calls saying a body was floating in the sea at Bundoran on February 21st, 2021 and April 2nd, 2021. Again, the emergency services were launched including the Rescue 118 helicopter while the cost of just the fire service attending was €1,000, the court was told. Coughlan was again identified and when interviewed by gardaí, the accused said he felt ashamed and wanted to get help for what he had done while admitting he was drunk at the time. Garda Doyle along with state barrister Ms Fiona Crawford, also outlined a number of break-ins and robberies to churches. Advertisement He admitted entering the Church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea, Bundoran on March 7th, 2021 and attempting to steal from four donation boxes after smashing a lock on the church to gain entry. On October 2nd, 2022, Coughlan admitted breaking into the Sacred Heart Church on Station Roa din Mountcharles and causing €630 in criminal damage and stealing €30 from donation boxes. Coughlan caused criminal damage to a house belonging to Fr Patrick Dunne at Church Street in Ballyshannon on September 8th, 2024, when he ripped beading from a window but was spotted by a local woman. He fled the scene but was caught on CCTV and admitted carrying out the criminal damage. The accused also caused €2,700 of damage to stained glass windows when he broke into St Claire's Church in Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim on October 3rd, 2024. Damage was also caused to a key lock as well as two candelabras while Coughlan also entered the sacristy of the church and removed the CCTV system valued at €500. When interviewed, Coughlan said it was him but he couldn't really tell as he was 'off his face' on ecstasy and cocaine.' He also pleaded guilty to a number of other burglaries including stealing tools from a house in Kinlough, Co Leitrim and €240 in cash from a cash register at Kernan's Spar at Moorefield in Ramelton on October 1st, 2024. He also admitted breaking into Bundoran Adventure Park on March 6th, 2021 and stealing €1,100 of power tools and causing €400 of damage to windows while he was drunk. Sergeant Doyle said all injured parties had been canvassed but none had made victim impact statements. Coughlan's solicitor, Mr Peter Nolan, BL, instructed by solicitor Rory O'Brien, said he has had a long relationship with Coughlan and that he was resolute at all times about pleading guilty. He said his latest probation is not encouraging and places him at a very high risk of reoffending but that he has been in custody, is now drug-free and is an enhanced prisoner. He gave a background to the accused man's life stating that he left school at fifteen and has had no meaningful employment in his life. Mr Nolan admitted's Coughlan's previous convictions are extensive and the probation report did not show any green shoots but suggested the green shoots are in prison where he is trying to do his best to deal with his drug problem. Coughlan took to the witness box and apologised to everyone he had hurt and admitted that he put himself on a 'self destruct mode.' Although he has not seen his three children for a number of months, Coughlan was adamant that if he stays off the drugs he has a chance of getting back with his partner and seeing his kids once more. Read More And he added 'I'm sorry for what I did, although I never physically hurt anyone, I know the psychological effect it can have. I know it can be mentally and financially damaging and I'm sorry for doing that. 'I had an addiction and my head was just fried. The last thirteen years of my life were getting intolerable and it had to come to an end.' Having sentenced Coughlan to an overall period of two and a half years in prison, Judge Aylmer backdated the sentence to when he went into custody on October 9th last year. He also ordered Coughlan to go under the supervision and direction of the Probation Services including the completion of any residential treatment programme recommended.
