Hamza Ali Abbasi Just Officiated a Nikkah and the Internet Has Some Thoughts

Express Tribune18-02-2025

Hamza Ali Abbasi is a man of many talents – acting, singing, cooking, playing the guitar and apparently, now a wedding officiant?
Yes, you read that right. The beloved star of Pakistani dramas like Pyare Afzal, Mann Mayal, and the iconic Alif has officially added "Nikah officiant" to his resume after a recent viral video showing him solemnizing a couple's Nikah ceremony.
Known for his roles in films like Jawani Phir Nahi Aani and The Legend of Maula Jatt, Hamza is no stranger to the spotlight. But this time, he found himself in the spotlight for all the right reasons (well, sort of).
In a video shared by Bunty Khalid Photography on Instagram, the actor took on the role of a 'Maulana' for the day, conducting the entire Nikah ceremony – from reciting the sacred verses to announcing the Haq Meher (dowry amount) on behalf of the groom.
As expected, the internet exploded with opinions.
Social media users were quick to jump in, and the responses ranged from laughter to full-on applause, with some even asking Hamza to officiate their weddings.
One fan humorously commented, 'Itna handsome Maulvi, mera bhai nikah parha do – Such a handsome religious figure, do solemnize my Nikah as well, please." We're guessing that's a yes?
While some fans were all for it, seeing it as a great example of normalizing religious duties in everyday life, others raised a few eyebrows.
A few critics argued that actors, despite their fame, might not have the necessary knowledge or cultural sensitivity to handle such a sacred process. 'Actors should stick to their profession. Nikah is a serious religious duty, and it should be performed by someone properly trained,' one user remarked.
But let's be honest – do we really need to make a fuss about it? Hamza wasn't claiming to be the next Maulana in the making. He was just a good friend stepping up for his buddy on their big day. Sometimes, it's just about doing a kind deed for someone you care about, without expecting the world to turn its attention on you.
