Guwahati: The Satra Aayog formed for reviewing and assessing the problems of the Satra lands in Assam, submitted its final report to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma It may be noted that the Aayog formed on 24th November, 2021 with MLA Pradip Hazarika as its Chairman and MLAs Mrinal Saikia and Rupak Sarma as its members, visited around 126 satras, examined the existing problems there and submitted the report, giving several recommendations.Thanking the Satra Aayog for its final report, Sarma said, 'In the socio-cultural life of Assam, submission of the final report marks an important day for the state. I consider myself happy to receive the final report of the Aayog which reviewed and assessed the problems of Satra lands necessitated because of encroachment. The government will study the report very minutely and exhaustively to meet its recommendations'.The Chief Minister on the occasion also announced that his government would constitute a permanent Satra Aayog which would be empowered financially, administratively to work for the benefits and welfare of the satras. He also said that the Aayog will work on forming a 25 year long vision plan to revamp the institutional framework of the Satras. The Aayog would also work to lend sustainability of the Satras across the state.Sarma also said that in socio-cultural and spiritual life of the state, Satras play an important role.He moreover said that Srimanta Sankardeva by introducing neo-vaishnavism , took crucial role in setting up the Satras for discussing and preaching culture and spiritual values across the state. He also said that Srimanta Sankardeva, Madhavdeva, Sri Damodeva, Sri Harideva established the satras.He said that today the Satras are confronted with various problems. However, no other government took the initiative to address the problems of the Satras. However, once the BJP led dispensation assumed power in the state, the government took steps to save the satras and lend vitality in them. Therefore, the present State government formed this Satra Aayog to find out the problems especially land encroachment that grapple the Satras across the state. He thanked the Satra Aayog for its exhaustive study, which would help the government to take remedial steps and protect the Satras.The Chief Minister moreover, said that more youth should come to the fold of the Satra culture and lend more vitality to them.Sarma said that bigger Satras should take upon themselves to help the small Satras. They should also indulge in transformative works to empower all the satras to spread the tenets of vaishnavism.He said that it would be very difficult for the government to empower all the 922 satras, ee, therefore, appealed to the people of Assam to work collectively to protect the Satra lands and help them work for the mission they were established.

We've pushed back 330 illegal foreigners, none of them has returned: Assam CM
Guwahati, June 9 (UNI) Iterating the BJP-led Assam government's stern stand on Bangladeshi citizens entering or living in India illegally, state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday informed the Assembly that the government has pushed back almost 330 such unauthorised foreigners, and none of them has returned. 'It is not possible for them to return, and we are firm on this. And this pushback will be intensified, it will be expedited. The way illegal immigrants have entered the state from Bangladesh and Pakistan, we have to be more proactive to keep the state safe," said Sarma. The Chief Minister was replying to a demand by opposition members, including Congress' Debabrata Saikia and AIUDF's Ashraful Hussain to discuss on the issue of National Register of Citizens (NRC). While raising the issue, Saikia said that while the government has claimed to have pushed back illegal foreigners, some of them again entered Assam, making the government's stand vague on the issue. The Chief Minister further informed the House that the state government has also decided to reinforce the Illegal (Expulsion from Assam) Act 1950. "Under the Illegal Expulsion Act 1950, the District Commissioner, if he is reasonably convinced that a certain individual is a foreigner, can remove that individual without referring a case to the Tribunal," he said. The Chief Minister said the government has taken inspiration from former Chief Minister Bimala Prasad Chaliha, who had pushed back illegal immigrants. 'We are taking inspiration from the good works of the Congress,' he said while referring to Chaliha, who was a Congress Chief Minister. "There are two ways to identify illegal immigrants in Assam — one is the Tribunal and the other is the Illegal Expulsion Act 1950. There the word 'push back'is not there, but 'remove' is there," he added Expressing his concern over the issue, the Chief Minister further said that the government has found out almost 2600 Facebook accounts, which were operated from Islamabad, Riyadh and Saudi Arab. "They don't even welcome Rahul Gandhi, but welcome one particular individual from Assam. And I have documents, within the next ten to 12 days I'll provide some information about such accounts to the press,' he said. 'These accounts post only on two occasion, either on Palestine or on Assam, nothing else. I am not saying that the Muslims of Assam are not indigenous. Indigenous is a secular definition. ... There is a big conspiracy and we must resist it through the process of law,' he added. UNI ANP SSP

Over 330 infiltrators pushed back: Himanta Biswa Sarma
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Monday that over 330 illegal infiltrators were pushed back in the past few months, and that this operation would be expedited in the coming days. Curfew imposed in Assam town after recovery of severed cow head from temple triggers tension
Guwahati, June 9 (UNI) Curfew was imposed on Monday in Assam's Dhubri town, with the administration apprehending breach of peace and public tranquility amidst prevailing tension following the recovery of a severed cow head and beef from the premises of a temple. The incident triggered widespread protests in the town, and the locals demanded immediate action against the culprits. Although the police and senior district administration officials reached the spot in Ward no 3 immediately they faced resistance from the locals. The local Hindu community also prevented the police from removing the banned substance from the temple until the culprits are arrested. The people took to the streets and shouted slogans in protest. This is the third incident of recovery of beef from the same temple in recent times. The District Commissioner, Dhubri, promulgated prohibitory orders under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Samhita 2023. As per the prohibitory order, all shops and market establishments falling within the Dhubri Town area will remain closed until further notice. The order also banned assembly of 5 (five) or more persons in any public places, streets and thoroughfares intending to hold demonstration/meeting/procession or anything similar in Dhubri town area. "Organising any Rally/Procession/Meeting/Demonstration are strictly prohibited," the order said adding that only emergency services like Medical Establishment, Education institutions, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, Police, APDCL officials, Army and other Paramilitary forces and such other persons specifically permitted and in whose favour relaxation is granted either by the undersigned or by those who are authorized to issue relaxation of this order as deemed fit and proper. Assam police had arrested 16 persons recently for illegal cattle slaughter and sale of beef on the occasion of Eid Ul Zuha . Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that cattle parts were found in five places including near Cotton University (Kamrup M), Dhubri, Hojai, and Sribhumi (Bagargool). Five illegal slaughter sites were uncovered – 3 in Cachar (Gumrah, Silchar, Lakhipur) and 2 in Karimganj (Badarpur, Banga). 16 arrests were made – 9 from Cachar and 7 from Sribhumi, Sarma posted on his X handle on Sunday and added that strict action will be taken against the violators. Assam Cattle Preservation Act of 2021 banned cattle slaughter and sale of beef in areas where Hindus, Jains, and Sikhs are in the majority and within a five-km radius of a temple or satra (Vaishnavite monastery). The Assam Cattle Preservation Act of 2021 also regulated the transportation, and slaughter of all cattle, and sale of beef and beef products in the state. In December last year, the Assam cabinet decided to amend the 2021 act and put a restriction on public consumption of beef also. Accordingly, sale and consumption of beef is prohibited in public places such as restaurants and hotels. UNI ANP BD SSP
