A scenic journey with historical insights
HASSAN ABDAL:
The Safari Train, a collaborative initiative by the Tourism Department and the Pakistan Railways, operates every Sunday, offering a unique travel experience that combines breathtaking scenery and historical exploration.
The train runs from Rawalpindi to Attock Khurd, taking passengers on a memorable journey through some of Pakistan's most picturesque landscapes and culturally rich sites.
A key highlight of this journey is the stop at the historic Hassan Abdal Railway Station, which holds immense historical significance. Built during the British colonial era in the late 19th century, this architectural marvel stands as a testament to the engineering and design of that time. Its vintage charm, arched windows, and intricate brickwork reflect the legacy of a bygone era. Situated near the famous Gurdwara Panja Sahib and the ancient Grand Trunk Road, the station is a gateway to the region's cultural and historical treasures.
Passengers are welcomed at Hassan Abdal with traditional "dhol" performances, making the stop a festive and enriching experience. Visitors can explore the station's heritage while enjoying the hospitality and cultural vibrancy of the region.
The train draws a diverse crowd, including families, children, and school groups. Many travellers have praised the initiative for its educational and recreational value.
Maria Khan, a teacher accompanying her students, says the weekly Safari Train is an excellent way to expose children to Pakistan's heritage in an enjoyable and interactive manner.
Ahmed Raza, a frequent traveller, says every Sunday, this train brings people closer to nature and history. "The stop at Hassan Abdal Railway Station is always the highlight of his trip. It's like stepping back in time."
By running every Sunday, the Safari Train has become a popular family outing and a means to promote domestic tourism. It not only showcases Pakistan's natural and cultural beauty but also preserves and celebrates its historical landmarks.

PR announces 20% Eid travel discount
Pakistan Railways on Wednesday announced a significant fare reduction for passengers during the upcoming Eidul Azha holidays. The rail service will offer a 20% discount on fares for all trains under its management across all travel classes. This discount will be applicable specifically on the first three days of Eid. However, the railway administration clarifies that this discount will only be available for 'current bookings', meaning tickets purchased specifically during the Eid travel window for journeys on those three days. Notably, the discount will not apply to any additional Eid Special Trains, that are scheduled to handle the holiday rush. Pakistan Express A preliminary inquiry report into the derailment of the Pakistan Express, which was en route from Karachi to Rawalpindi, has revealed that poor maintenance of a bogie led to the near-disastrous accident. According to railway sources, the bogie suffered a "hot axle" malfunction, an overheating issue that caused a critical pin to snap. As a result, the entire trolley beneath the bogie broke free and veered off track. The incident occurred on Sunday morning near Mubarakpur, in the Multan railway division. While the train avoided a major catastrophe by sheer luck, damage was inflicted on at least two bogies and the track infrastructure. According to railway officials, a dining car and a standard air-conditioned coach of the 45-Up Pakistan Express derailed. However, no passengers were injured in the incident. As a result, several Up and Down trainswere delayed for hours at various stations within the Bahawalpur district.

Dubai party hotel FIVE considers listing in London or New York
DUBAI: Dubai party hotel operator FIVE Holdings is considering listing in London or New York, three people with knowledge of the matter said. The company, which owns the Pacha hotel and nightclub, has been exploring an initial public offering in Dubai, it has said. Chairman and founder Kabir Mulchandani said last year the company was worth up to $3 billion and was considering a dual listing. He did not name possible locations. London could be a strong candidate given a majority of clients at FIVE's Ibiza clubs are British nationals and that business generates significant revenues for the group, one of the people said. An offering would be a boost for London, which has struggled to attract IPOs. FIVE did not respond to requests for comment. Dubai is the biggest tourism and trade hub in the Middle East, attracting a record 18.7 million international overnight visitors last year. Foreign investors accounted for 50% of the total trading value on the Dubai Financial Market exchange last year, exchange data showed. UAE seeks US trade deal to roll back Trump's steel and aluminium tariffs The company and its advisers are planning to start the listing process by the end of the year, two of the people said. The three people spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak publicly. FIVE operates luxury hotels in Ibiza and Switzerland as well as owning one of Dubai's biggest party hotels, where guests can park their top-of-the-range sports cars inside a nightclub for Dhs10,000 ($2,723). Guests can also rent its 16-passenger private jet for $14,000 an hour. This year's market volatility, triggered by U.S. President Donald Trump's policies, has weighed on global IPO activity, but the Gulf region has bucked the trend as both Saudi Arabia and the UAE have forged ahead with listing plans. They include Saudi budget airline flynas, which is seeking to raise over $1 billion, and Dubai Holding's residential REIT, whose shares rose almost 15% during its debut on Wednesday.
