Indian Express27-05-2025

The Harry Potter series made Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint into household names after they first played the characters of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. All three of them would go on several adventures over the course of 8 film, retiring their wands after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2. HBO announced a series based on the Harry Potter books back in April 2023, and after several thousand auditions, they have finally decided who is going to play Harry, Hermione and Ron.
HBO and Warner Bros have announced that they have chosen newcomers Dominic McLaughlin in the role of Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The executive producer of the show, Francesca Gardiner, and Mark Mylod released a statement in which they described the talents of the new actors and expressed their excitement over the project. 'After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.'

Both of them thanked the 'thousands of children' who auditioned for the parts and said it was quite special when they realised the amount of talent that is out there. The cast of the series also includes John Lithgow (Albus Dumbledore), Janet McTeer (Minerva McGonagall), Paapa Essiedu (Severus Snape), Nick Frost (Rubeus Hagrid), Luke Thallon (Quirinus Quirrell) and Paul Whitehouse (Argus Filch).
Francesca Gardiner has written the show and Mark Mylod has directed several episodes. Author JK Rowling will serve as a producer on the series, alongside Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Bronte Film and TV, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.

James Gunn confirms Superman runtime; dismisses rumours of external edits

Washington [US], June 5 (ANI): With the premiere of 'Superman' just around the corner, director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn has addressed lingering questions surrounding the film's runtime and rumours about studio interference. The eagerly awaited movie, set to launch on July 11, is one of the cornerstones of Gunn's new DC Universe (DCU) and marks the beginning of 'Chapter One: Gods and Monsters'. In a direct response to fan inquiries on the social media platform Threads, Gunn confirmed that the film's runtime, including credits and post-credit scenes, will be 2 hours and 9 minutes. The announcement came after a user asked if the 2-hour, 9-minute duration was accurate. Gunn clarified, "Inclusive of credits/post credits, the runtime is 2 hours 9 minutes." The director also took the opportunity to address a circulating rumour that Warner Bros. had forced him to shorten the film's runtime. Gunn categorically denied the claim and said, "Zero truth to that." He further emphasised that as a DC Studios film, the studio had no such influence over the project. "And they couldn't even if that's something that they wanted to. It's a DC Studios film," Gunn remarked, as quoted by Deadline. This restates any speculation that Warner Bros. played a role in trimming the movie. The upcoming 'Superman' film, written, directed, and co-produced by Gunn, will explore the journey of Clark Kent, portrayed by David Corenswet, as he grapples with his Kryptonian heritage and his life in Smallville with his adoptive family. The film represents a pivotal moment in the relaunch of the DC Universe under Gunn's leadership and will be the first film of the new DCU Chapter One. 'Superman' boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Alongside David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan will star as Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult will take on the iconic role of Lex Luthor. The film will also feature performances from Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt, aka Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, as per Deadline. Isabela Merced rounds out the cast as Kendra Saunders, also known as Hawkgirl. The film will also see several characters crossing over from the established DC Universe, including Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Gabriela de Faria as Angela Spica (The Engineer), and Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, better known to fans as 'Supergirl'. With a diverse cast, Gunn's 'Superman' is set to be an exciting new chapter for the DC franchise. As the first film in the DC Universe's 'Chapter One: Gods and Monsters', 'Superman' is more than just a retelling of the 'Man of Steel's origin story. It promises to explore Clark Kent's internal conflict as he navigates the complexities of his dual identity, bridging the gap between his Kryptonian roots and his Earth-bound family and friends in Smallville. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "There is no feud," said Goggins, adding, "I adore, I love this woman madly, and she is so important to me. This is Goldie Hawn. This is Meg Ryan. She can do anything, and she will. You watch what the next 20 years of her experience will be ... She is love and I know that I am that to her. We care about each other very deeply," according to The Hollywood Reporter. On unfollowing, Wood shared, "Why is everyone obsessing over Instagram? That is irrelevant. We don't give a shite about Instagram ... Eventually I just started to sit back and watch these people making something out of absolutely nothing." Goggins said he was ready to "put this to bed." The actor first visited the country while grieving his wife's 2004 suicide, and then his time on the White Lotus coincidentally returned him to the same location. "My catharsis in this experience was different than other people's, because of my history in this place," the actor explained while "beginning to cry." "I knew what [Wood and I] had gone through, and I knew how close that we had gotten, and I needed to begin to process saying goodbye to Rick and Chelsea. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now And I knew that that was going to take a while for me, so I let her know, 'This is what I've gotta do.' And she was extremely supportive about that," as per The Hollywood Reporter. Goggins added, "I needed to just back away from everyone. I haven't spoken to anyone. I couldn't handle it. Judge me or don't. I don't give a fuck what you think. This is my process. Rick means everything to me, and Chelsea means everything to me. And so that's what I needed to do for me to process all of this." However, later, Goggins reportedly picked up his phone and re-followed Wood on Instagram. "It was just a part of me just saying goodbye to this character so that now Aimee and I will be friends for ever," he added, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
