USC commit Alijah Arenas walking, talking in the hospital amid recovery from car crash that put him in medically-induced coma
Alijah Arenas is making incredible progress not even a week after he was involved in a car crash in Southern California and placed into a medically induced coma.
Alijah, a five-star USC commit and the son of former Washington Wizards star Gilbert Arenas, is walking and talking again in the hospital and is expected to return home in the near future, producer Josiah Johnson shared on the latest episode of the 'Gil's Arena' show on Monday. He also is expected to avoid all major injuries after the crash.
'I'm happy to announce that Alijah is doing much better. I just got off the phone with Gil about five minutes ago,' Johnson said. 'Alijah's doing better, walking, talking, progressing well. Should be released from the hospital very soon. No major injuries as a result of the car accident.'

Alijah, 18, was in a Tesla Cybertruck just before 5 a.m. on Thursday morning when he crashed into a fire hydrant and slammed into a tree , according to multiple reports. The accident was caused by the loss of control of the vehicle, and alcohol and drug use are not suspected, per the report.
Alijah was deemed stable at the scene, but he was transported to a local hospital and was briefly placed into a medically-induced coma due to smoke inhalation. The family said in a statement that Alijah wrote on a piece of paper that he remembered the smoke from the crash and asked, 'Did anyone get hurt?' after he woke up the following day.
Alijah is a 6-foot-6 guard from Chatsworth High School in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. He is a five-star Rivals.com recruit who received several notable offers, including from Kansas and Kentucky, before he committed to play at USC in January. He helped lead Chatsworth High to the CIF Division II state championship game in March, too, and he left the school as the all-time City Section scoring leader.
Gilbert Arenas spent 11 seasons in the league, most of which were with the Wizards, from 2001-2012. He also had short stints with the Golden State Warriors, who selected him with the No. 31 overall pick in 2001 out of Arizona, the Orlando Magic and Memphis Grizzlies. He now hosts the 'Gil's Arena' podcast with Underdog Fantasy Sports.

He gives off vibes of Theo Wease Jr. during his time in Columbia – a big target who will catch a lot of passes; not a burner but explodes by defenders. Brady is a weapon and another big win for coach Eli Drinkwitz and staff. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MISSOURI FANS AT Could USC's loss be Texas' gain? Brown and the Trojans parted ways when the four-star receiver from Waxahachie, Texas, wanted to take visits. The Longhorns, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Illinois, Utah, Colorado, SMU and Baylor then emerged as the serious contenders. It really came down to Texas and Notre Dame for Brown and he picked the Longhorns over the weekend, giving an already loaded receiver room another big weapon. How many will USC take this recruiting class? The No. 1 class in the country has 28 commitments after adding Dyer over the weekend as the four-star DB from Duluth, Ga., joins an absolutely loaded defensive back haul that includes five-star Elbert Hill and four-star Brandon Lockhart among many others. Word started leaking out over the weekend that USC could land Dyer, an early South Carolina commit who said Georgia was the team to beat, and by Sunday it was done. The high four-star defensive end from Matthews (N.C.) Weddington made it clear throughout his recruitment that he wanted to play with his twin brother, Andrew, so that could have shaped his recruitment even more. The Gamecocks have only eight commitments but six are four-stars so there is a lot more quality than quantity right now. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH SOUTH CAROLINA FANS AT Penn State was an option for the Harris Bros., and Auburn and NC State official visits were scheduled. But South Carolina was a favorite of both throughout their recruitment as it ended with commitments over the weekend. When things slowed down with Ohio State in recent weeks, the Gamecocks jumped up even further. Since the brothers wanted to play together, South Carolina became a great option. This was a surprise commitment over the weekend because the four-star running back from Lancaster, Texas, was tagged to a program much closer to home. Lee had taken a visit to TCU but SMU was really the front-runner in his recruitment. He is from the South Dallas area, he was a main priority for the Mustangs and Lee made it no secret that he was highly interested in the program. Vanderbilt landed a weekend pledge but will have to fight off SMU and others down the stretch. Memphis Academy and he made it no secret they were a front-runner. Pittman said Ole Miss was 'for sure up there' and he didn't waste a lot of time as he was committed to the Rebels just days later. He's now become a big-time recruiter for this UCLA class on social media but the in-state schools and programs across the Southeast won't give up. USC football pulls out all the stops for massive recruiting weekend This past weekend was a massive one on the recruiting trail for USC football. The Trojans welcomed numerous high-profile visitors to campus, including both commits and uncommitted players. USC certainly did not hold back in putting on a show to impress those in attendance. In a recent story, USC writer Erik McKinney of On3 detailed some of what went into the Trojans' recruiting spectacle. "If there was any question as to how USC was building excitement among these 2026 recruits," McKinney wrote, "a quick look from committed cornerback Elbert Hill as to how he arrived to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on his official visit provides plenty of insight. "USC set up a red carpet treatment down one of the Coliseum tunnels and filled it with every assistant coach and staffer on hand. Hill makes his way through the handshake line of assistant coaches, making sure to avoid all eight of USC's Heisman Trophies on display, before arriving at [general manager Chad] Bowden with a big hug. Head coach Lincoln Riley is one of his final greetings as Hill gets another up-close look at his next home." USC's efforts certainly paid off with at least one prospect, as on Sunday, the Trojans landed a commitment from four-star cornerback Peyton Dyer. Lincoln Riley and his staff are hoping that the big weekend will lead to even more recruiting victories down the line.

College basketball analyst thinks USC should make NCAA Tournament next year It has certainly been a dramatic offseason for USC men's basketball. For the second year in a row, the Trojans turned over nearly their entire roster, once again heavily utilizing the transfer portal. A recent story by Isaac Trotter of 247Sports gave a way-too early 2025-2026 outlook for every Big Ten basketball team. His view on USC was a fairly optimistic one, as he believes that Eric Musselman's group should be an NCAA Tournament team next season. Here is what Trotter had to say about the Trojans: 'USC's talent level has skyrocketed after the snazzy additions like [Rodney] Rice and [Chad] Baker-Mazara, but it's the defense that should be remarkably better in 2025-26,' Trotter wrote. 'Musselman's squad now has legit plus size at all five positions. USC should be able to shrink the floor defensively and cause real problems at every level. Of course, there's a little fretting about the point guard room. [Jordan] Marsh is the lone true point guard on the roster, but both Rice and Baker-Mazara notched north of 150 pick-and-roll reps last year with elite efficiency and slim turnover rates. USC can piece it together with those two alphas if it wants, while maintaining the flexibility to play a traditional point guard in Marsh if things go haywire. Losing Keonte Jones stings, but USC has a deep frontcourt with plenty of versatile, different pieces. Keep an eye on [Jacob] Cofie. The Virginia transfer has all the tools to be a total stud. USC is huge, will shoot way more 3-pointers, has multiple different avenues it can use to find efficient offense and should be much-improved defensively. If Arenas is healthy, it may have the best wing corps in the Big Ten. The Trojans smell like a tournament team with room for so much more if everything clicks.' In Year 1 under Musselman, USC did not even come close to making the NCAA Tournament. Getting there in Year 2 would be a tremendous step in the right direction. Let's see if the Trojans can pull it off.
