#SHOWBIZ: Ed Sheeran forced to increase security after 'weird' incidents
LONDON: British singer Ed Sheeran has revealed he's had to install 24-hour security at his home due to "weird things which have happened".
The Daily Mirror reported yesterday that Sheeran strives to maintain as normal a life as possible with his family.
In a new interview with Louis Theroux, he explained: "I was having a conversation with my wife about this actually, because I do think that there's a different kind of normal that is our business."
"For instance, I have like 24-hour security on my house, I have security with my kids,
"I have security with me, I have security with my wife, just because there've been a couple of like, weird things over the years that have happened."
Sheeran added: "I've never seen that as normal, but within my industry, that's completely normal."
He also shared that fame makes it more difficult to do ordinary things with his children, and he "mourned" not being able to take his kids to the swings in a public park.
"I don't do it that much. Of all the things that I've tried to do normal for my kids, I took them to see my friend's mum's pantomime and she shut off the top of the theatre so we could sit there on our own and watch her."
Sheeran is married to Cherry Seaborn, and the couple has two children.
The four-time Grammy-winning singer also revealed that he does not own a private jet and prefers to travel by train.

The mistrial came a day after the jury convicted Weinstein on a separate sex abuse charge. It also acquitted him on a different sex abuse charge. Weinstein, once one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood, faced a retrial that began on April 23 after a New York state appeals court last year overturned his 2020 conviction. He was accused by prosecutors in this case of raping an aspiring actress and assaulting two other women. Weinstein, 73, pleaded not guilty and has denied assaulting anyone or having non-consensual sex. The jury found Weinstein guilty on one of the three counts he faced, which stemmed from his alleged assault of former production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006. The jury found Weinstein not guilty of a charge stemming from his alleged assault of Kaja Sokola in 2002 when she was a 16-year-old aspiring actress. Supreme Court Justice Curtis Farber declared a mistrial after the judge said the jury could not reach a verdict on a third count, which charged him with raping aspiring actress Jessica Mann in 2013. Weinstein faces up to 25 years in prison when he is sentenced. He has separately been sentenced to 16 years in prison following a rape conviction in California. In a startling development on Wednesday, the jury foreperson told Farber that other members of the panel were shouting at him and threatening him for refusing to change his vote on the rape count. Farber sent jurors home for the day to give them time to cool down and instructed the foreperson to arrive in court separately on Thursday. In closing arguments on June 3, the prosecution told the 12 jurors that the evidence showed how Weinstein used his power and influence to trap and abuse women. The defense countered that the accusers lied on the witness stand out of spite after their consensual sexual encounters with the Oscar-winning producer failed to result in Hollywood stardom. A jury found Weinstein guilty in February 2020 of raping Mann and sexually assaulting Haley. Sokola's allegation was not part of that case. The conviction was a milestone for the #MeToo movement, which encouraged women to come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct by powerful men. But the New York Court of Appeals, the state's highest court, threw out that conviction in April 2024. It said the trial judge erred by letting women testify that Weinstein had assaulted them, though their accusations were not the basis of the criminal charges. Though the conviction was thrown out, Weinstein, who has had a litany of health problems in recent years and attended the retrial in a wheelchair, has remained behind bars because of his California conviction. He is appealing that verdict. More than 100 women, including famous actresses, have accused Weinstein of misconduct. He co-founded the Miramax studio, whose hit movies included such Academy Award winners as "Shakespeare in Love" and "Pulp Fiction." Weinstein's own eponymous film studio filed for bankruptcy in March 2018, five months after sexual misconduct accusations against him became widely publicized. The other photo shows a dog wearing a light blue coloured collar that had the album title on it. Although comments on Instagram have been mostly positive as fans expressed excitement for new music, those on Twitter, however, had different opinions about the album cover. As seen in the screenshots below, many described the artwork as off-putting, criticising it for portraying her, or women in general, as subservient to men, likening the imagery to that of a pet dog. Others accused the singer of objectifying herself for the 'male gaze'. Some fans defended the former Disney star, arguing that the image and album title were intended as irony and satire, highlighting how women are often sexualised and objectified by men. However, while others recognised the underlying message, they felt that the imagery and title might not have been the most effective artistic choices to convey her point. At the time of writing, Sabrina Carpenter has yet to respond to the criticism surrounding her album artwork. The Grammy-winning Flowers singer, 32, confirmed that 'drugs were the biggest cost' of her recording her 2015 self-funded album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz . 'To hide those from my accountant, we called them 'vintage clothes,'' she revealed on a recent episode of The Ringer's Every Single Album podcast. 'So she would get these checks for thousands of dollars worth of vintage clothes.' Eventually, her accountant began to wonder where those clothes actually were. 'Every time she saw me, she'd be like, 'Where's that, like, US$15,000 (RM63,537.17) original John Lennon T-shirt that you bought?'' Cyrus recalled. 'I was like, 'Oh, it's upstairs. … We just really want to protect it. It's really delicate.'' Cyrus admitted to buying 'a lot of 'vintage clothes' that year,' saying she's grateful she 'survived' that period of her life. 'I would definitely not encourage anyone else to go this hard, but the fact that I got through it, I'm very glad I got to do it,' she said.
