Penn State to face Big East opponent next basketball season, per report

Penn State to face Big East opponent next basketball season, per report Penn State will reportedly face Big East team next college basketball season.
The college basketball season just wrapped up earlier this week with the Florida Gators being crowned national champions, so it is already time to start looking forward to the start of a new season next fall. For Penn State, there was no offseason to participate in after failing to qualify for the Big Ten tournament, and there is a lot of work being done to reshape the roster for head coach Mike Rhoades. The schedule for the Nittany Lions is beginning to come together, however, and a neutral site game against a Big East foe is reportedly on the table.
Penn State will face Providence of the Big East in a neutral site game at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, according to a report from college basketball insider Jon Rothstein of College Hoops Today. An exact date for the game was not reported at this time, although Rothstein did say the game will take place in November. The reporting seems like a single-game neutral site game instead of a preseason tournament.
Penn State is 2-1 all-time against the Friars but the last meeting between the two schools came in 2012. Penn State beat Providence in overtime by a score of 55-52 in the Puerto Rico Tip Off in San Juan, Puerto Rico in November 2012.
Providence is coming off a 12-20 season in the second season under head coach Kim English. The Friars were 21-14 in English's first season with the program the previous season.
Penn State went 16-15 in the 2024-25 season in the second season under Mike Rhoades. The Nittany Lions will hope to be able to make a return to the NCAA men's basketball tournament for the first time since 2023.

Rocket Classic field 2025: Who is playing in PGA Tour's Detroit stop

Cam Davis is the undisputed king of the Rocket Classic. The Australian is the only person to ever win the tournament twice. It's also the only place he's ever won on the PGA Tour. Davis will look for a third title and his second in a row at the 2025 Rocket Classic, when the PGA Tour returns to Detroit Golf Club for the seventh time June 26-29. Advertisement Though the tournament has only existed since 2019, it has already featured two playoffs. In 2021, Davis defeated Tony Merritt and Joaquín Niemann to claim his first title. In 2023, Rickie Fowler birdied the first hole of the playoff to hold off Collin Morikawa and Adam Hadwin. All prior champions of the tournament, with the exception of Bryson DeChambeau, who joined LIV Golf, have announced their participation in the tournament. The PGA Tour has been announcing new entrants as we get closer to tournament time. Among the commitments is Ryan Brehm, from Mount Pleasant, who helped Michigan State win three Big Ten championships from 2004-08. McCullough is the career leader in scoring average for the Spartans with a mark of 71.59. Fans can purchase tickets at Grounds tickets start at $65 per day. 2025 NBA Draft scouting report: Yanic Konan Niederhauser, F/C, Penn State

For a two-round mock draft and a big board with full scouting reports, check out my NBA Draft Guide. Yanic Konan Niederhauser, F/C, Penn State Height: 7-0 • Weight: 243 • Class: Junior • Age: 22 Summary: Konan Niederhauser is an elite athlete who lives above the rim as a finisher and shot blocker, and he displays some intriguing upside as a 7-foot shot creator. But he needs to improve his fundamentals to make it all click. Advertisement Comparisons: DeAndre Jordan Strengths At-rim finishing: He's a constant lob threat thanks to his pogo-stick leaping ability, but he also runs the floor hard on the break to make himself available and displays really good touch even when he can't dunk it. Dribble-drive game: He has back-to-the-basket skill, but more interestingly he displays signs of an ability to drive from the perimeter, whether he's attacking closeouts or facing up in the post. He has smooth footwork and slick spin moves that he can use to get into the paint then yam it on defenders. It's sacrilegious to say it looks like young Giannis, but it looks like a young Giannis. The obvious difference is Giannis was already a two-time All-Star by the time he was Konan Niederhauser's age. Advertisement Shooting upside: He made just 21.6% of his 3s in college and just 64.8% of his free throws. But he has such soft touch near the rim it's hard not to wonder if there's a minor mechanical fix that could improve his otherwise smooth shooting release. Shot blocking: Excellent weakside rim protector who rotates over with activity and desire to swat shots into the stands. He also racks up deflections. If his fundamentals and awareness improve, he could become more of a reliable rim protector than a shot blocker. Concerns Frame: He's extremely lean, so the things he did well in college may not work as much in the NBA. And on defense he could get overpowered by heavyweight bigs. Advertisement Fundamentals: He doesn't box out as much as he should, misses rotations on defense, and in general has a raw overall game. He'll likely find himself in foul trouble if he receives heavy minutes early in his career. Passing: He logged only 22 assists to 48 turnovers in his final college season. He lacks passing vision and has far too loose of a handle, so he'd often get stripped on his drives. MSU hockey signs Adam Nightingale to contract extension

MSU hockey signs Adam Nightingale to contract extension 'My family and I are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to represent Michigan State University. To coach at an institution like this and be part of the East Lansing community is a privilege and an awesome responsibility." #GoGreen — Michigan State Hockey (@MSU_Hockey) June 13, 2025 Michigan State hockey has extended head coach Adam Nightingale the school announced on Friday. The school release didn't include details on the official contract extension for Nightingale, but according to Detroit Free Press reporter Chris Solari this will be a new deal that runs through 2030. This new deal is a five-year rollover contract that was officially approved by the Michigan State University Board of Trustees on Friday. "I'm appreciative of the support the Board of Trustees and President Kevin Guskiewicz have demonstrated with today's announcement of a new contract for Adam Nightingale, helping to ensure he leads the Spartan hockey program for many years to come," J Batt, Michigan State Vice President and Director of Athletics said in a press release. "Under Coach Nightingale's guidance, Michigan State has returned to its position as one of the elite programs in college hockey, creating incredible excitement both within the hockey community and throughout all of our loyal supporters. Coming off back-to-back Big Ten Championships, there's a buzz that even greater things are on the horizon. Personally, I can't wait to experience the excitement of the sold-out crowds at Munn Ice Arena this winter, in what could be a truly special season." Nightingale is entering his fourth season at Michigan State, where he has experienced a ton of success. Nightingale has quickly brought the Spartans back into the national spotlight of college hockey with back-to-back Big Ten championships and No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans are expected to be a top five team again next year as well. "My family and I are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to represent Michigan State University," Nightingale said in a press release. "To coach at an institution like this and be part of the East Lansing community is a privilege and an awesome responsibility. The support our program receives, from President Kevin Guskiewicz, the Board of Trustees, Director of Athletics J Batt and the entire Spartan family, will never be taken for granted, and we make sure our players and staff understand that on a daily basis. We look forward to continuing to make our university, alumni and community proud." Click on the post below to read more on the Nightingale extension from Michigan State.
