Court permits Tahawwur Rana to speak to kin over phone
A Delhi court on Monday (June 9, 2025) permitted Tahawwur Rana, the alleged mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, to make a one-time phone call to his family.
Special Judge Chander Jit Singh of Patiala House Court ordered that the call will be conducted in under the supervision of a senior Tihar jail official. Rana has been asked to strictly adhere to jail rules.
The Tihar jail authorities have also been asked to submit a fresh report on Rana's health within 10 days from Monday (June 9, 2025). The jail authorities will also file a report clarifying their stand on whether Rana should be allowed regular phone calls.
Extradited by the United States to India on April 10, 64-year-old Rana is now facing trial in the case 17 years after the attacks that killed more than 166 people in 2008.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), probing the case, had charged him for the terror attack conspiracy with his friend David Headley, the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) mastermind who carried out the planning and reconnaissance operations for the Mumbai attacks at the behest of LeT chief Hafiz Saeed.
The central agency says that Rana was involved in the planning of the Mumbai attacks, assisting Headley in procuring a visa and creating a false identity so he could travel to India. He has been charged with criminal conspiracy, waging war against the government of India, murder, forgery and under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

RBI to SC: Have issued norms to monitor use of loan money by realtors
NEW DELHI: As many banks and financial institutions have come under scanner for harassing homebuyers in connivance with real estate companies particularly in case of subvention plan and facing Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe on direction of the Supreme Court, banking regulator RBI has virtually shrugged off its responsibility and told SC that it has over the years issued various guidelines and circulars to monitor use of loan amount by developers to prevent misuse and siphoning of funds. It also said that it had directed banks not to resort to intimidation or harassment of any kind for recovery of loan amounts from buyers. Under the subvention scheme, banks disburse the sanctioned amount directly to the the builders, who then have to pay EMIs on the sanctioned loan amount, until possession of the flats is handed over to homebuyers. As many builders did not complete construction and started defaulting in paying the EMIs to the banks as per the Tripartite Agreement, the banks started action against the buyers to recover the EMIs and it is the SC which came to their rescue by ordering a probe into the alleged 'unholy' nexus of builders and banks. In an affidavit filed in the apex court, RBI referred to various directions and guidelines issued by it from time to time and said, "RBI has performed its duty in discharge of its statutory obligations under the various statutes, including those under the BR (Banking Regulation) Act." The regulator said it had way back in 2015 taken cognisance of the practices such as Subvention Schemes and had issued guidelines as per which disbursal of housing loans sanctioned to individuals should be closely linked to the stages of construction of the housing project and upfront disbursal should not be made in cases of incomplete or under-construction housing projects. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? Seeking intervention, hundreds of homebuyers had moved the SC against banks and builders.

Kotwali police were unaware of the ongoing tussle among the goons. Police said Pandey had lent Rs8,000 to Rohit Chandekar, 29, a resident of Nawabpura near Masjid. When Rohit failed to repay, tensions flared as there were threats and counter-threats between the rivals. Pandey also visited Chandekar's residence on many occasions to recover his cash. Sources allege the debt was likely linked to a narcotics deal involving mephedrone, with Rohit reportedly dealing in the drug recently. Pandey, determined to recover his money, allegedly confronted Rohit earlier on Sunday, whisking him away on a bike and demanding immediate repayment. Rohit promised to settle the amount later. Around 9pm, Pandey received a call from Rohit's accomplice, Neeraj Larokar, summoning him to a footpath behind Lakdapool Bus Stop, opposite Royal Electricals Shop. Accompanied by friends, Pandey arrived at the location around 11pm, unaware it was a trap. Waiting there were Rohit, his brother Vickey, and Larokar, all with serious criminal records, including assaults. Vickey was previously charged under the stringent Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act but was released by court order. A heated confrontation ensued, leading to a brutal fight. The Chandekar brothers and Larokar attacked Pandey and his friends with a baton, and one of the assailants, identified as accused Rohit, stabbed Pandey with a knife. Following a complaint, Kotwali police registered a case, arresting Rohit, Vickey, and Larokar for their involvement.
